Setkání ve Wat Dhammakittiwongu / Encounters at the Wat Dhammakittiwong

Kroulík, Milan January 2017 (has links)
(in English) This paper is based on field-work performed in a Thai Buddhist Temple (Wat) in Prague in the year 2016. The aim is to describe and in describing analyze rituals organized in and through the temple from a materialist phenomenological point of view, as well as based on an ideal-type Theravāda cosmology. In drawing on post-colonial philosophy, part of the focus lies also on the process of becoming other. This is achieved in situating practice and mimesis (based on the anthropologist Michael Taussig's theory) at the center of methodological inquiry. Each chapter is based on different expected and unexpected encounters at the Wat, and offers a possible solution to the issues that these encounters raised.

Síť aktérů domácího porodu: Mnohočetné podoby / Homebirth as Actor-Network

Genttnerová, Kristýna January 2016 (has links)
Homebirth as Actor-Network: Multiple realities The topic of this medical anthropology thesis is a description of homebirth seen through the eyes of Actor-Network Theory. The focus of this work is thus not on the professional concept of homebirth as a biological process or soon-to-be-mothers experience and take on homebirth. Focus is on homebirth in itself, how it is enacted via interactions of actors in network. After the presentation of two points of view on medicine (disease and illness), an introduction into the basic principles and innovations of ANT (including anthropology of symmetry), into the works of people, who build their ideas on it (Mol - multiplicity, De Laet - fluidity, Law) and the presentation of the current birthing situation in the Czech Republic, the thesis shifts its focus to the description of the whole actor-network, which enacts homebirth via interaction between the actors in practice. These practices are abstracted from the interviews with mothers, a dula and a paediatrician. The description includes people and objects, because according to ANT, they have the same amount of social agency. Homebirth is then enacted by the objects needed for homebirth - tools to make birth easier and to support its process, by people who partake, venues it takes place in and the birthing positions it...

Sekulární trend, populační variabilita a určení pohlaví podle rozměrů lidského femuru. / Secular trend, inter-population variability and sex estimation with help of variables of human femur.

Švenkrtová, Iva January 2010 (has links)
Determination sex is one of the most important tasks in the identification of skeletal remains. Previous studies have shown that population differences in size and shape of femora can affect correct sex allocation. This thesis tested the discriminat functions generated from different populations and confirmed population specificity of the femur discriminant functions. Two samples of the identified adult femora for this project was used. First sample originates from the Czech population living in the 1st 20th century (78 males and 81 females) and second sample originates from the Czech population living in the 2nd 20th century (67 males and 35 females). Both samples also help us estimate the influence of secular trend of the femur'variables to the correct sex classification by discriminat functions calculated in the Czech population. The results showed the existence of the secular trend in femora size dimensions. Only the dimensions of the femoral head (vertical head diameter-F18, transverse head diameter-F19 and maximum diameter of the femoral head-MPH) and sagittal subtrochanteric diameter (F10) not chandged significantly during the 20th century. The secular trend has negatively influenced the correct sex classification, always for one subpopulation. Only the dimensions in which the secular trend...

Krize veřejného prostoru a pokusy o jeho revitalizaci / The Crisis of the Public Space and the Attemps to Revitalize It

Andělová, Tereza January 2016 (has links)
The thesis called Crisis of public space and the attempts for its revitalisation is trying to analyse public space from the perspective of urban anthropology and sociology and it introduces the role of semiotics in this issue. It presents the crisis of public space and tries to uncover the causes and possible solutions. It opposes the modernistic concepts of the city which looked away from the human aspect and focuses on everyday life of people in urban space. The thesis adverts to the necessity of blending various fields which deal with the issue of public space and perceiving the city as a whole. It takes notice of the mutual relationship of space and people, of creating individual's identity and character of the society based on the environment which surrounds it and at the same time the possibility for everyone to participate in changing their surroundings, mind patterns and perception. At first, this thesis addresses the issue of the definition of public space, presents the fundamental theoretical publications dealing with its origin and crisis. Then it in detail describes the characteristics of the city, analyses the demand for good-quality space and takes notice of the tendencies that threaten public space. In terms of the attempts to revitalize public space, this thesis points out the...

"Jste-li Kristovi, jste potomstvo Abrahamovo" Etnografie českého mesiánsko-židovského společenství / "And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed" An Etnography of a Czech Messianic Jewish Community

Soukupová, Monika January 2018 (has links)
This thesis deals with some aspects of the religiosity of the members of the Czech community, who claim to be a part of a Messianic Judaism movement. The text is based on the field research I did within the congregation. In the introduction, I attempt to present definitions of this type of religiosity, describe the historical development of the movement, make connection to evangelical religiosity, outline its basic pillars, clarify the role of non-Jewish believers in this movement, and ultimately outline possible forms of worship. Next, I describe my journey into the field, the development of my relationships with the informers and then I evaluate my insider-outsider position in the community. In the practical part of the thesis, I try to reveal the path of individual church members to this type of religiosity, relying on Kaell's concept of "born-again seeking". Based on testimonies from individual believers, I try to uncover why the congregation does not accept more elements of Pentecostal religiosity, as can be seen in many Messianic communities, especially in the United States and England. On the contrary, the church's aims seem to be a counterweight to emotional Pentecostal religiosity. On the phenomena of the celebration of Jewish holidays, the observance of the Sabbath, the relations to the...

Proměna Šumavy za industrializace: zapomenuté stopy dřevařů / The Transformation of Šumava Mountains at the time of industrialization: Forgotten Traces of Woodworkers

Blažková, Tereza January 2018 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to show the changes and the development of the landscape and the settlement of the region of central Šumava mountains due to industrialization in the 19th century. The thesis is based theoretically and methodologically in the field of anthropology of landscape and industrial archeology. It combines archive written and cartographic sources with non-destructive field research of anthropogenic relics. The industrialization of the area of interest meant the woodworking expansion that was caused by the lack of firewood in Prague and its surroundings and was realized as a business plan by the noble Schwarzenberg family. Schwarzenberg forest exploatation and timber floating system for firewood transport have brought significant landscape changes to hitherto almost untouched mountaneous forested areas. The field research has identified elements of the floating timber system, such as water reservoirs, watercourse troughs or the Vchynicko-Tetovský floating canal, as well as traces of both, permanent and seasonal settlement of woodcutters. The work divides the area into four zones, depending on how they were used, settled and transformed during the 19th century. The greatest attention is devoted to zone no. I, the remote forest area, which has become a major resource area for the Schwarzenberg...

Analytické přístupy vybraných "poradenských" veřejněpolitických dokumentů v oblasti bezdomovectví / Analytical approaches of selected public policy counselling documents from domain of homelessness

Poláková, Alžběta January 2018 (has links)
This thesis is focused on homelessness problem, particularly on documents of counting of people hit by this problem of public policy. Aim of this thesis is to identify and evaluate analytical approaches used by fourteen big cities in the Czech Republic, in the process of counting homeless there. At first this paperwork brings information about policy analysis and its ways of use in our country, with focus on advisory documents, which documents of counting belong. Further, I discuss problem of homelessness and the ways of understanding it in context of this thesis. Other chapters are dedicated to two disciplines from social sciences field - Public policy, and Social and Cultural anthropology. These served as optics for identification of analytical approaches via their key characteristics. I also mention interdisciplinarity as "canopy" for my own approach towards this topic. By using method of content analysis this work elicits in detail the ways in how the counting in above mentioned cities done in 2007-2017 and how these results may contribute to interdisciplinary solution of the given problem. The last chapter gives outcomes based on analysis, which implicates diversity of concepts used in these documents, their aims and methods, and also possible suggestions for applications of the achieved...

Cortijeros en La Alpujarra: Od lifestylové migrace k úvahám o pozitivní antropologii / Cortijeros en La Alpujarra: From the Lifestyle migration to Thinking about a Positive Anthropology

Varhaník Wildová, Kateřina January 2017 (has links)
Lifestyle migrants from the affluent North move to the Mediterranean region intensively from the 80's. Lifestyle migration to Spain takes different forms: here we meet rich yacht owners in Marbella, retired people in the housing complexes in Almuñecar, or surfers in Tarifa. This work focused on people, who chose their new place in the region of La Alpujarra. They live in the remote houses called cortijos, which gave name to their inhabitants - cortijeros. Their lifestyles are the subject of this work, together with more general strategies practiced in lifestyle migration, the skills needed in such a move, and values they pursue. Ten years of research enabled to get together both, opinions and plans of the newcomers in the region, and their activities, stories, and imprints in the real world. I try to present different perspectives: the lens of lifestyle migration, counter-urbanization, material culture anthropology, history, positive psychology. At the end, I propose to think a positive anthropology that would focus on studying such practices that seemed to work towards understanding "the good life"; that work towards both individual well-being, and creating social structures considerate to humans and the environment.
