High voltage optical fibre sensor for use in wire relay electrical protection systemsBashour, Rami January 2016 (has links)
The last few decades have a wide spread use of optical fibre sensors in many applications. Optical fibre sensors have significant benefits over existing conventional sensors such as; high immunity to electromagnetic interference, the ability to transmit signal over long distance at high bandwidth, high resolution, usage in hazardous environments and no need for isolation when working at high voltages. The measurement of high voltages is essential for electrical power systems as it is used as a source of electrical information for Relay Protection Systems (RPS) and load management systems. Electrical Power Systems need to be protected from faults. Faults can range from short circuits, voltage dips, surges, transients etc. The Optical High Voltage sensor developed is based on the principle that the Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) electrostriction displacement changes when a voltage is applied to it. The displacement causes the fibre (FBG) which is bonded to the PZT material to have a resultant change in the wavelength. An optical fibre sensor prototype has been developed and evaluated that measures up to 250 V DC. Simulation using ANSYS software has been used to demonstrate the operational capability of the sensor up to 300kV AC. This sensor overcomes some of the challenges of conventional sensors issues like electromagnetic interference, signal transmission, resolution etc. R BASHOUR 2 A novel optical fibre high voltage based on the Kerr effect has been demonstrated. The The Kerr effect was determined using Optsim (R-Soft) software and Maxwell software was used to model an optical Kerr Cell. Maxwell software is an electromagnetic/electric field software used for simulating, analysing, designing 2D and 3D electromagnetic materials and devices. It uses highly accurate Finite Element techniques to solve time varying, static, frequency domain electric and electromagnetic fields. A Relay Protection System on electrical networks was discussed in detail. Keywords: Fibre Bragg Grating, Fibre Optics Sensors, Piezoelectricity, Kerr effect, Relay Protection Systems.

Consumer Knowledge of Proper Sunscreen ApplicationGo, James, Hreniuc, Brian, Tran, Kevin, Cooley, Janet January 2014 (has links)
Class of 2014 Abstract / Specific Aims: To determine what the general public understands about sunscreen and to see if specific groups need more targeted marketing and education about sunscreen. Methods: Questionnaires administered to eligible participants that rated the participants’ knowledge of general sun safety, sunscreen application, and FDA labeling on sunscreen products compared to demographic data. Demographic data were collected on age, gender, years resided in Arizona, whether participants has or known anyone with a history of skin cancer and ethnicity. Main Results: Questionnaires were completed by 62 participants. When comparing skin cancer versus no skin cancer using student’s t-test, there was no significant difference (P=0.09). When comparing gender versus total using student’s t-test, there was no significant difference (P=0.62). When comparing ethnicity versus total using ANOVA, F < Fcritical indicating there was no difference. When comparing age versus total using ANOVA, F < Fcritical indicating there was no difference. When comparing years residing in Arizona versus total using ANOVA, F < Fcritical indicating there was no difference. Conclusion: Consumer knowledge of general sun safety, sunscreen application, and FDA labeling on sunscreen products appears to have little to no difference between each demographic category.

Invariant algebraic surfaces in three dimensional vector fieldsWuria Muhammad Ameen, Hussein January 2016 (has links)
This work is devoted to investigating the behaviour of invariant algebraic curves for the two dimensional Lotka-Volterra systems and examining almost a geometrical approach for finding invariant algebraic surfaces in three dimensional Lotka-Volterra systems. We consider the twenty three cases of invariant algebraic curves found in Ollagnier (2001) of the two dimensional Lotka-Volterra system in the complex plane and then we explain the geometric nature of each curve, especially at the critical points of the mentioned system. We also investigate the local integrability of two dimensional Lotka-Volterra systems at its critical points using the monodromy method which we extend to use the behaviour of some of the invariant algebraic curves mentioned above. Finally, we investigate invariant algebraic surfaces in three dimensional Lotka- Volterra systems by a geometrical method related with the intersection multiplicity of algebraic surfaces with the axes including the lines at infinity. We will classify both linear and quadratic invariant algebraic surfaces under some assumptions and commence a study of the cubic surfaces.

The Effects of Textual Fluency on the Rate of Acquisition and Application of Intraverbal RelationsShrontz, Rachael E. 05 1900 (has links)
Intraverbal behavior governs core elements of academic and intellectual behavior. These intraverbal relations can be explicitly taught when an individual is prompted to provide an appropriate response with pictures, text, or other stimuli following a verbal stimulus. It is possible that a focus on fluency of the target repertoires may lead to more conclusive data. the current study assessed the effects of precision teaching based instruction for component textual repertoires on the acquisition of intraverbal relations. Specifically, this study compared the effectiveness of two textual prompting procedures (with and without fluency-based instruction) on the acquisition and application of intraverbal relations using time-delay and a carefully controlled set of intraverbal stimuli. Results indicate that the use of textual prompts and an errorless time-delay transfer of stimulus control procedure were effective strategies for teaching intraverbal responses regardless of the inclusion of fluency-based instruction.

Comparison of data-communication technologies for a Real-World Business ApplicationTreitz, Bastian 02 February 2021 (has links)
