Strategie arabského literárního překladu v období Naḥdy / Strategies of literary translation during the Naḥda

Provazníková, Adéla January 2018 (has links)
Bc. Adéla Provazníková Strategies of literary translation during the Nahḍa Abstract: The thesis deals with the topic of literary translation in the Arab world during the Nahḍa. It falls within the framework of descriptive translation studies and is based methodologically on Gideon Toury's model (1995), which determines its structure and goals. Following a brief historical and literary context the thesis systematically describes attitudes towards translation in given period and finds that translational terminology and requirements were changing during the 19th century and only yet stabilizing. The core of this thesis lies in the textual analysis of two novels and three short stories, which reveal individual translational strategies. It shows that Arab translators in the colonial context dealt with the source text in a creative manner and accommodated translated texts to the cultural and historical particularities of a contemporary Arab reader. Keywords: translation strategies, modern Arabic literature, Nahḍa, paraliterature, Adib Ishaq, Labiba Hashim, cultural encounter

De mutacionibus aeris. Kořeny, tradice a vývoj středověké nauky o předpovídání počasí, včetně recepce v bohemikálních rukopisech / De mutacionibus aeris. The roots, traditions and development of the learned medieval weather forecasting, including the reception in the Czech manuscripts

Kocánová, Barbora January 2014 (has links)
The dissertation work examines the roots and development of the medieval learned weather forecasting in the context of ancient and medieval sources and its reception in the central European space, respectively in medieval Bohemia. The work can thus enrich our knowledge of history of natural sciences in the Middle Ages, medieval erudition and written culture in general. At present weather forecasting is a subject of meteorology, based on the analysis of air pressure, temperature and air density and the physiological conditions of the Earth's surface. A detailed analysis of these factors was practically infeasible in the past. Therefore weather forecasting was achieved by means of other methods and premises. We would also hardly find texts concerning weather forecasting between manuscript treatises on the origin and nature of meteorological phenomena: these surprisingly contain a minimum of weather forecast references. At that time weather forecasting was not a part of meteorology; it was the subject of other treatises appearing in the manuscripts frequently entitled De pluviis. These were primarily based on other tradition, respectively on other traditions that were different from that of Aristotle. The aim of the dissertation is to discover and to bring together the various traditions which formed...

Ibn Bádždža: Řízení osamoceného / Ibn Bājja: The Governance of the Solitary

Kohout, Ondřej January 2016 (has links)
The focus of the thesis is an explanation of specifics of Ibn Bâjja's political philosophy as it is presented in his most famous writing The Governance of the Solitary (Tadbír al-mutawahhid). The thesis should introduce how is Ibn Bâjja's thinking based on work of ancient authors and what are its foundations. This is the reason why it will be necessary to look into al-Fārābī and his political philosophy, however, it will be also important to see how much is Ibn Bâjja's work influenced by thinking of Plato's and Aristotle's politically oriented writings. Despite the historical aspect of the thesis, it will be crucial to show possible parallels to contemporary political thinking and the status of philosopher/intellectual in society. A part of the thesis is also Czech translation of the first chapter of The Governance of the Solitary focusing on two fundamental concepts of Ibn Bâjja's philosophy - "governance" and "solitary".

Satira v klasické arabské poezii / Satire in Classical Arabic Poetry

Pletichová, Anna January 2011 (has links)
Satirical poetry is generally considered as a one of the most important genres of the classical Arabic literature. Genre of poetry was in the pre-Islamic and early Islamic society highly appreciated and the Arabs used to regard it as the only form of the real literature. Unlike prose which was limited to the folklore and educational literature esteemed the Arabs poetry as a real art expression and the poet hold also very strong position within the traditional Arab society. Arabic satirical poetry is believed to grow up from curses and lampoons declaimed by traditional Arab wizards, kāhins, and due to the fact that faith in the power of word was still very deeply rooted in people's minds, Arabic satirical poetry was ascribed a very good reputation. The development of society after the rise of Islam also had a very strong impact upon the function of traditional genres of the Arabic poetry. From its original function of discouraging and threating enemies satirical poetry developed into the means of poet's subsistence, political propaganda and society entertainment. Arabic satirical poetry became an independent genre of art. This thesis deals with the origin and the development of Arabic satirical poetry from its emergence in the pre-Islamic period until it reached its peak during the reign of Umayyad...

Irácká exilová literatura / Iraqi exile literature

Klasová, Pamela Markéta January 2012 (has links)
This thesis examines the work of the contemporary exilic Iraqi author Ḥasan Blāsim within the framework of magical realism. At the same time it argues for a more formalistic and wider definition of magical realism, which also includes fiction without any supernatural elements. Magical realistic components found in the short story collection Majnūn sāḥat al-ḥurrīya (The Madman of Freedom Square) underline the most important themes in the stories. These are related to the catastrophes that afflicted Iraq and its people in the course of last thirty years. With its emphasis on the documentation of modern Iraqi history dominated by war and exile Blāsim's work belongs to the genre of documentary narrative. The goal of documentary narrative is to contribute to the collective memory of a nation. Despite Blāsim's focus on documenting, magical realism in his work cannot be considered as an attempt to create a parallel cultural world. The supernatural in his stories functions metaphorically and relates exclusively to the real world of war and violence, in which people under heavy circumstances turn into animals, cannibals, which is magical in itself. In addition, Blāsim's work is on a subordinate level discussed from the perspective of postcolonial theory. Postcolonial theory has undergone a complicated...
