Beyond the State: The Early Nietzsche's Post-Political Rhetoric

Nichols, Keegan 12 August 2016 (has links)
A small subsection of the literature on Nietzsche’s political philosophy focuses on a key passage that appears in the sixth section of “Schopenhauer as Educator.” In this passage, Nietzsche claims that the individual’s life attains its highest value by living for the benefit of humanity’s rarest and most valuable specimens. Some philosophers, like John Rawls and Thomas Hurka, take this passage to be sufficient evidence of a larger commitment on Nietzsche’s part to aristocracy. Others oppose Rawls’ and Hurka’s interpretations, claiming that this key passage is evidence of a commitment to democracy. However, both sides are incorrect. This particular section of “Schopenhauer as Educator” is actually evidence of Nietzsche’s commitment to divorcing cultural institutions from the influence of states in toto. I explain why Nietzsche is committed neither to aristocracy nor to democracy, and how the passage from “Schopenhauer as Educator” commits Nietzsche to a post-political position.

Colloredo-Mansfeldové ve 20. století / Colloredo-Mansfeld Family in the 20th century

Karalová, Ivana January 2011 (has links)
The diploma thesis "Colloredo-Mansfeld in the 20th Century " describes the fate of the Austrian aristocracy, especially since the collapse of Austria-Hungary. It also recounts the evolution of the newly rising Czechoslovak Republic, and focuses on the problems that land reforms brought to the nobility. Other chapters depict the members of the family, namely Josef Colloredo-Mansfeld, the owner of the estate of the Colloredo-Mansfeld family, his brother Jeroným Hubert and his four sons Josef, Vicard, Jeroným and Bedřich. The Second World War indelibly affected the lives of these brothers, their property was confiscated by Germans and the family was gravely persecuted as well. After the war, they hoped in vain for the return of their possessions, which were, however, confiscated under the Benes Decrees. All their hopes faded with the Victorious February in 1948, when situation became unbearable for them, resulting in their emigration. Considerable changes were brought about by the fall of the communist regime in 1989. Restitution laws were issued and their estates were returned to them. Presently, there is still a long-lasting dispute over the Opocno castle , claimed by the heiress of Josef Colloredo-Mansfeld, Kristina from the Czech Republic.

Stravování českých šlechticů v předbělohorském období a soudobá lékařská literatura / Nourishment of the czech aristocracy in period before Bílá hora and contemporary medical literature

Měrková, Jana January 2013 (has links)
(in English) The current thesis on Nourishment of the czech aristocracy in period before Bílá Hora and contemporary medical literature focuses on two main topics: dining and medicine. Today, both could be included under one label, which is nutrition. The thesis can be divided into two parts. The first one, on the topic of cuisine/dining of noblemen, introduces their diet, habits and provides a few examples of period recipes. The second one presents overview of books that addressed the issue of dining and cuisine at that time. This part also includes personal and literary profiles of several personalities whose writings contributed to this area. A link between these two parts is a chapter on cuisine from the perspective of physicians. In writing the thesis I relied mostly on two sources: literature on lifestyle and historiographic literature. The latter focuses on cuisine from an everyday life perspective without the medical point of view. The objective of the thesis is to show that cuisine, or nutrition is not only a matter of modern age, but it had its place in the examined period as well.
