Hus med flyt : Building on water to combat urban congestion and climate change

Karlsson, Martina January 2019 (has links)
Hus med yt project aims to restore the splashes, ripples, oods, waves, streams, and droplets of water as manifestations of its presence in the built environment. An implementation of affordable oating dwellings dealing with the reality of climate change and urbanization which is demanding a new way of planning urban cities. Dealing with the issue of growing cities and how we as architects can provide housing for everyone in the city with a new approach - treating water as a surface rather than just a part of the landscape. Floating structures leave no scares on their sites, permitting Hus med yt to actively meet the demands of the present. As a part of the climate change generation it us up to us as architects to respond to the worlds spacial needs with smart, sustainable proposals.

COVID CODED : Post-Pandemic Dwelling in Umeå

Montan, Meimei January 2021 (has links)
COVID CODED is an exploration of the architectural agency in socio-spatial evolution amidst a crisis. It is an inquiry into how a collective forced experiment can be a departure point for architectural adaptability and rearrangement. Historically, Tuberculosis, Cholera, and Polio are among many infectious diseases to have shaped reform.  SARS-CoV-2 both can and should write a new chapter on the architectural discipline’s response to the fear of infection. With the new-found gravity of home and Sweden’s population spending approximately 90% of their time indoors, COVID CODED focuses on dwellings and the opportunity to approach the existing to accommodate for new emerging lifestyles. In addition, Pandemic times make society at large prone to isolation and altered interaction. A particularly vulnerable group during crises is the single household, currently estimated to make up 40% of Swedish households. To combat this, COVID CODED explores a collective living typology for the single household designed to be more local, healthy, and agile. With Umeå city as a frame of reference, the Haga/Sandbacka area is host to the largest number of single households compared to other districts. Haga’s proximity to green spaces, educational institutions, service points, and cultural centres, makes the location an ideal host for densification and a 15-minute neighbourhood. Located along Östra Kyrkogatan, the plots of Kryssaren 6 and Kryssaren 7 are currently under consideration by Umeå Municipality to be supplemented and rebuilt to host 20 rentable apartments. COVID CODED adapt these intentions two-fold, first for Kryssaren 6 to receive an extension instead of a separate addition and secondly for Kryssaren 7 to be remodelled instead of demolished. The two techniques reflect ways to approach the existing to increase community support for the single household and create a sense of belonging, ownership, and security. In a larger scope, movements such as the European Green Deal, the Renovation Wave, and the New European Bauhaus are already creating ideal conditions to facilitate change in the same direction!

Slakthusområdet lärocenter : Examensarbete / Slakthusområdet Learning Center : Degree Project

salman, sara January 2017 (has links)
The starting point for this project was the changing role and status of the school as an institution over time. Concepts such as ”power” and ”status” has influenced the work. I have designed a building that position itself as the main building, complemented by the already existing school structures in the area. The idea is that this main building, with functions such as library, study spaces, a multifunctional square and a café can serve as a communal place and meeting point for the attendants at the neighboring schools.  The building is a relatively tall building when compared to the two existing structures that are planed to be re-made into schools. The usage of brick and big round windows relates into the already existing space. An arcade runs next to the facades of the three buildings and blurs the line between ”in-doors” and ”out-doors”. The café and the multifunctional square is located at the ground floor, and becomes natural continuation of the park and street outside. A vertical light shutter runs through all levels of the building. This serves as an eyecatcher as well as helps with orientation. The building offers different types of rooms, spaces, places that varies in their openness and closeness, lightness and darkness, quietness and loudness. Byggnaden erbjuder också off entliga delar.

Kungshagen : Recognizing the qualities of the existing

Blohm, Kajsa January 2018 (has links)
The project take place in a midsized swedish city. It's about finding an identity in a more urbanised society where cities become more similar and distances smaller. In search of representative places we tend to clean up our cities so that they show an artificial way of life. How can we instead work with whats existing?
