Beuren, Marcelo Müller January 2016 (has links)
In the past years, an increase in aviation transport can be noticed and it highlights inefficiencies in asset management, especially in Brazil. Hence, the exhaustion of traditional techniques to cost reduction lead companies to seek improvements supported by more complex methods in order to increase productivity of their assets. Thus, it is crucial to develop models for useful life identification and economic replacement of assets, since these information assist the decision making process and lead to better maintenance plans, reducing wastage. As a result, the main objective of this work is develop and apply a systematic for evaluation of asset replacement in airports, supported by models that consider the specificities of the aviation sector and its particular variables. In this direction, elements that influence assets useful life are identified and, then, models for useful life identification and economic replacement of assets are developed and applied in an important Brazilian airport. It can be concluded that the systematic have produced consistent results and can assist in asset replacement decision in a structured form.

On Asset Life Cycle Management for Offshore Wind Turbines : A Case Study of Horns Rev 1

Broliden, Caroline, Regnér, Linn January 2015 (has links)
The world’s first large scale offshore wind farm, Horns Rev 1, is approaching the decommissioning phase the profitability of future investments therefore has to be investigated further. Investment decision-making requires the consideration of several perspectives based on a life cycle view of the asset’s condition and profitability. In order to contribute to the economical perspective of Asset Life Cycle Management, a business case model has been developed in two parts, one that represents the whole wind farm and one for a single wind turbine. Through the two models, the user can examine the profitability of a wind farm from a system perspective as well as on a more detailed level. The purposes of these models are to assist in the budget planning of Horns Rev 1 and provide support for investment decisionmaking.

Risk based life management of offshore structures and equipment

Bharadwaj, Ujjwal R. January 2010 (has links)
Risk based approaches are gaining currency as industry looks for rational, efficient and flexible approaches to managing their structures and equipment. When applied to inspection and maintenance of industrial assets, risk based approaches differ from other approaches mainly in their assessment of failure in its wider context and ramifications. These advanced techniques provide more insight into the causes and avoidance of structural failure and competing risks, as well as the resources needed to manage them. Measuring risk is a challenge that is being met with state of the art technology, skills, knowledge and experience. The thesis presents risk based approaches to solving two specific types of problem in the management of offshore structures and equipments. The first type is finding the optimum timing of an asset life management action such that financial benefit is maximised, considering the cost of the action and the risk (quantified in monetary terms) of not undertaking that action. The approach presented here is applied to managing remedial action in offshore wind farms and specifically to corroded wind turbine tower structures. The second type of problem is how to optimise resources using risk based criteria for managing competing demands. The approach presented here is applied to stocking spares in the shipping sector, where the cost of holding spares is balanced against the risk of failing to meet demands for spares. Risk is the leitmotiv running through this thesis. The approaches discussed here will find application in a variety of situations where competing risks are being managed within constraints.
