Statistical Natural Language Processing Methods in Music Notation Analysis / Statistical Natural Language Processing Methods in Music Notation Analysis

Libovický, Jindřich January 2013 (has links)
The thesis summarizes the research in application of statistical methods of computational linguistics in music processing and explains theoretical background of these applications. In the second part methods of symbolic melody extraction are explored. A corpus of approxi- mately 400 hours of melodies of different music styles was created. A melody model using the language modeling techniques was trained on this corpus. In the third part of the thesis the model is used for an attempt to develop an alternative method of audio melody extraction which uses the melody model instead of commonly used heuristics and rules. The chosen ap- proach works well only on simple input data and produces worse results than the commonly used methods on the MIREX contest data. On the other hand, the experiments help to understand the conceptual between the pitch frequency development - the physical melody - and the melody perceived on an abstract level in the symbolic notation - the symbolic melody. 1

Autorské právo v kině / Copyright Law and Cinema

Pošta, Martin January 2013 (has links)
Cinema copyright - Abstract Cinema copyright - a list of all issues concerning copyright protection, which might be dealt with in a cinema building. The thesis "Cinema Copyright" is focused on the problems of copyright protection of audio-visual work, live broadcast and other activities which most often take place in a grand hall of a cinema. The author holds a position of a director of a one-hall city digital cinema. Therefore, it is not the only goal of this thesis to take a positive view of the issues in the legal sense of the word, but also to confront the legal regulation with the common practice in the field in the way I and my colleagues experience it on a daily basis. As a result I propose some changes regarding the matters in question. Except for the first chapter, the whole thesis deals with the legal relations between a cinema operator and a distributor. The text is related to the actual state of legal affairs by February 4, 2013. The first chapter is concerned in detail with the current terminology of audio-visual work and the people within the scheme of its production. In this part a detail analysis of the legal framework of the production of audio-visual work and of the legal relations among the people within the production scheme is given. The second chapter presents the reasons for...

Array Processing Techniques for Broadband Acoustic Beamforming

Thiel, Ryan 20 May 2005 (has links)
Audio acquisition and recording can benefit from directional reception of the acoustic signals. Current acoustic designs of highly-directional microphones are bandwidth limited and physically large. A microphone array used in conjunction with a beamforming algorithm can acquire and spatially filter the signal, but traditionally this has suffered from limitations similar to those of the purely acoustic designs. The work presented in this paper attempts to overcome these limitations by producing and analyzing three atypical techniques for broadband beamforming. The last and most successful technique employs an algorithm which calculates the difference in group delay of the acquired signals and uses that information to determine the direction of the incoming signals as a function of frequency.

Perceptions of Audio Notifications Within a Mobile Messaging Experience

Marlo Owczarzak (6639647) 14 May 2019 (has links)
User interfaces often incorporate sound to notify users of application updates, to enhance games, and to assist complex interactions. Sound exists as a medium that can provide information that humans cannot understand through a purely visual interaction, and in a mobile interface context, using another medium could be useful to mitigate visual limitations in screen space and the amount of users’ attention focused on screen. Smartphones are now a ubiquitous part of people’s lives, and sound interactions can play an important role within these experiences. This study conducts research on users’ interactions with supplemental sounds while using Facebook Messenger. Facebook Messenger is the most popular messaging app in the United States, and its design includes a variety of unique user interface sounds. This study contributes design considerations for both researchers and industry professionals to apply to further research or the application of audio within a mobile messaging space.

(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Considering the technical specificities and various problems inherent in audiovisual records, as well as the status or protectionist measures attributed to such documents, ie their patrimonialization, legal devices of copyright, of image, it will be tried to demonstrate that there are records of this type that are products of an administrative function, with organic character and probative function of activities, and for that reason must be incorporated in the context of production. It is therefore intended to imply the need for the audiovisual record to be recognized as an archival record and to be included in record management procedures. Therefore, the archival principles that guide the records managment, as well as the characteristics and the historical path of audiovisual records in archives in Brazil, are based on the principles of archival principles, starting from the bibliographic research for the delimitation of the topic of study. In this sense, these questions are analyzed at the national level, based on the official bodies for the formulation of archival policies, as well as the events and publications promoted by these professional associations and bodies of the Records Managment. These procedures have as purpose to base and acquire information for the development of this research and to propose new approches on these records and their specificities, from this retroactive analysis of the area of archives in Brazil. In this way, it is observed that the reflection... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Doutor

Computational tonality estimation : signal processing and hidden Markov models

Noland, Katy C. January 2009 (has links)
This thesis investigates computational musical tonality estimation from an audio signal. We present a hidden Markov model (HMM) in which relationships between chords and keys are expressed as probabilities of emitting observable chords from a hidden key sequence. The model is tested first using symbolic chord annotations as observations, and gives excellent global key recognition rates on a set of Beatles songs. The initial model is extended for audio input by using an existing chord recognition algorithm, which allows it to be tested on a much larger database. We show that a simple model of the upper partials in the signal improves percentage scores. We also present a variant of the HMM which has a continuous observation probability density, but show that the discrete version gives better performance. Then follows a detailed analysis of the effects on key estimation and computation time of changing the low level signal processing parameters. We find that much of the high frequency information can be omitted without loss of accuracy, and significant computational savings can be made by applying a threshold to the transform kernels. Results show that there is no single ideal set of parameters for all music, but that tuning the parameters can make a difference to accuracy. We discuss methods of evaluating more complex tonal changes than a single global key, and compare a metric that measures similarity to a ground truth to metrics that are rooted in music retrieval. We show that the two measures give different results, and so recommend that the choice of evaluation metric is determined by the intended application. Finally we draw together our conclusions and use them to suggest areas for continuation of this research, in the areas of tonality model development, feature extraction, evaluation methodology, and applications of computational tonality estimation.
