This study examined the outcomes that clients are experiencing with the Adult Protective Services System in the County of San Bernardino. The study was exploratory and discriptive. Data were extracted from closed case records from the period of September 1, 1999 until August 31, 2000.

This thesis covers the background and history of cultural attitudes towards body art, scarification and tattoos, the history of street gangs and their influence and impact on Southern California communities, and an in-depth program analysis of the "Gang Tattoo Removal Program" established at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC).

The quantitative study attempted to examine the barriers and challenges of grandparents raising grandchildren. The primary focus is to explore the problems and concerns to determine what are the specific needs of these redefined families. The researcher employed a questionnaire with some closed and open-ended questions, pertaining to the problems and concerns of custodial grandparents. Twenty-five grandparents in San Bernardino County were interviewed to obtain data regarding this issue. The findings of the study revealed that grandparents and grandchildren both are in need of internal and external resources to enhance, empower and support their inner ability to adjust and cope with their new and often traumatic family transitions.

Drowning and near drowning is a significant problem nationwide and in San Bernardino County. Drowning in and around the home is the leading cause of accidental death of children under 5 years of age. In the United States, drowning is cited as the second most common cause of death for adolescents. This project was undertaken to help establish a funding source to develop a drowning prevention program in San Bernardino County. A request for assistance was obtained from the California Center for Childhood Injury Prevention and the California Kids' Plates Program.

This constructivist research project qualitatively assessed the needs of both drug court clients and the treatment team in a rural California community utilizing the "hermeneutic dialectic process."
