De Stijl a česká avantgarda 20. a 30. let 20. století / De Stijl and Czech avant-garde art of the 1920's and 1930's

Pražanová, Kristýna January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis De Stijl and Czech Avant-Garde Art of the 1920's and 1930's focuses on the Dutch art movement De Stijl (1917-1931) and the relationship of its protagonists to the Czech avant-garde scene of the inter-war era; both on the practical as well as theoretical level. The work aims to examine the as yet rather insufficiently mapped interconnection between the creative output of De Stijl's artists, led by the movement founder Theo van Doesburg, and the body of work of Czech artists active in the First Czechoslovak Republic period. The crucial part of the text is grounded in the works of Theo van Doesburg and Karel Teige, leading personalities of the inter-war art scene of the aforementioned countries. The thesis concentrates on selected thematic areas of their wide scope of interests: typography, film, Bauhaus and architecture.

Women Creators: Artistry and Sacrifice in the Novels of Virginia Woolf

Guigou, Issel M 16 October 2015 (has links)
This thesis examines different facets of feminine artistry in Virginia Woolf's novels with the purpose of defining her conception of women artists and the role sacrifice plays in it. The project follows characters in "Mrs. Dalloway," "To the Lighthouse," and "Between the Acts" as they attempt to create art despite society's restrictions; it studies the suffering these women experience under regimented institutions and arbitrary gender roles. From Woolf’s earlier texts to her last, she embraces the uncertainty of identity, even as she portrays the artist’s sacrifice in the early-to-mid twentieth century, specifically as the creative female identity fights to adapt to male-dominated spaces. Through a close-reading approach coupled with biographical and historical research, this thesis concludes that although the narratives of Woolf's novels demand the woman artist sacrifice for the sake of pursuing creation, Woolf praises the attempt and considers it a crueler fate to live with unfulfilled potential.

Mechanism of Vein Pattern Formation in Arabidopsis Thaliana Leaves: testing the Canalization Hypothesis

Amin, Mira January 2011 (has links)
Several mechanisms have been proposed to explain the process of vein pattern formation in plant tissues. The most widely accepted amongst biologists is the canalization hypothesis, derived from pea root and stem experiments. According to this hypothesis, a signal, thought to be the phytohormone auxin, is transported polarly from cell to cell from the shoot to the root and is canalized progressively into narrow channels of high auxin fluxes that later differentiate to become vascular tissue. In this project, we set out to test whether auxin canalization drives vein pattern formation, using Arabidopsis thaliana mutants with increased auxin transport (max4-1, max3-9, max2-1 and max1-1). We predicted that the mutants would have distinct vein patterns and especially different angles between the primary and secondary veins, compared to the wild type. First rosette leaves of 15 plants per genotype were harvested for analysis each day from 7 to 17 days after sowing, giving a total of eight hundred twenty-five leaf samples to analyze. Venation patterns were extracted and analyzed using custom-made software written with Matlab. Overall, compared with the wild type, mutants with the highest auxin transport (max4-1 and max3-9) had different vein patterns at early developmental stages, confirming a role for auxin transport in vein patterning. However, veins of mutants and wild type connected at similar angles, which is not consistent with the auxin canalization hypothesis, as originally formulated.

Daňová evidence individuálního podnikatele / Tax evidence of individual enterpreneur

Krejzarová, Jitka January 2008 (has links)
This thesis is focused on individuals who decided to set up their own business. It describes all steps and conditions necessary to establish and carry on the business according to the Czech legislation (i.e. registration with competent authorities, payments for health and social insurance, tax payments). The major part of the thesis deals with the main entrepreneur's obligation - keeping an evidence in order to calculate the individual income tax. This evidence can be in the form called "tax evidence" based on cash basis (in other word it means evidence of incomes and expenditures). One chapter also deals with the question of the transition between the tax evidence and the accounting. The last chapter shows a practical example of keeping tax evidence, calculating tax liability and height of the insurance including completed forms.

Charter Cities - ostrovy prosperity s importovaným právnym systémom? / Charter Cities - islands of prosperity with the imported legal system?

Beník, Miroslav January 2013 (has links)
If we consider various improving concepts of governance, we can distinguish two main trends in public choice economics. Neoclassical analysis provides a static view of competitive government, where the main idea is free choice and so-called vote with feet. Dynamic view adds understanding of competition as knowledge generating process and product differentiation. The aim of the work is to evaluate Charter Cities project from the perspective of static and dynamic competition in the government industry, and its potential for rules diffusion to the host country. Seasteading may seem utopian, but the realization would significantly address the problems of decision-making costs and differentiation of governments. Since concepts vary at first sight, purpose of the work is also to compare charter cities and sea cities in terms of their nature, risks, and final applicability in practice. Third, a closer form of activism is the decentralization of government and the transfer of responsibilities to the private communities. Since the government market is 30% of world GDP and is extremely closed and resistant to change, it must compare the three forms of institutional changes, identify under what conditions and in what timeframe are feasible and to determine their significance with regard to their specific nature.

Manutenção da postura ereta em condições de perturbação: influência da execução de uma tarefa manual simultânea e incerteza sobre a direção da perturbação / Maintenance of upright stance in conditions of perturbation: influence of simultaneous manual task executation and uncertainty of perturbation direction

Andréa Cristina de Lima 29 April 2009 (has links)
This study aimed to investigate the reactive components of postural adjustments in response to displacements of the basis of support, disturbing body balance, as a function of a concomitant manual execution of a supra-postural task and uncertainty about the perturbation direction. Sixteen young adults of both genders (M = 26,3 years; SD = 2,6) participated in the study. The supra-postural task consisted of equilibrating a cylinder on a tray (constraint), whose performance was assessed through cylinder displacement. The performance on stance was evaluated as a function of a combination of uncertainty of direction of postural perturbation (anterior or posterior) and the constraint imposed by the supra-postural task, requiring equilibrium of the cylinder or maintenance of a tray in a horizontal orientation. Performance on stance was assessed through electromyographic analysis of anterior and posterior muscles of the right leg and kinematics of the main joints involved in postural e supra-postural adjustments. The results showed that the supra-postural task in predictable perturbations decreased the activation latency of agonistic muscles and diminished the manual displacement in the supra-postural task. The constraining supra-postural task induced differential adjustments in the ankle, knee, hip and shoulder in comparison with the condition without constraint. The results suggest that the restrictive supra-postural task induced a more automatic postural control to rapidly react to perturbations, generating more efficient postural adjustments. Thus, the present results suggest that the constraining supra-postural task induced more automatic responses. These results indicate that the control of a supra-postural task is integrated with the maintenance of upright stance in situations of balance perturbation. Moreover, this integration was shown to be dependent on predictability of direction of postural perturbation. So, the main conclusion drawn from our results is that the constraint imposed by the supra-postural task influences reactive neurophysiological responses related to postural control, which are enhanced by postural perturbation predictability
