This work uses conventional techniques of predictive control and includes techniques of adaptive control for better results. In order to solve control problems frequently found in the chemical industry, bilinear models are considered to represent the dynamics of the studied systems. Bilinear models are simpler than general nonlinear model, however it can to represent the intrinsic not-linearities of industrial processes. The linearization of the model, by the approach to time step quasilinear , is used to allow the application of the equations of the generalized predictive controller (GPC). Such linearization, however, generates an error of prediction, which is minimized through a compensation term. The term in study is implemented in an adaptive form, due to the nonlinear relationship between the input signal and the prediction error.Simulation results show the efficiency of adaptive predictive bilinear controller in comparison with the conventional.

The samples were deposited by the DC Sputtering on Magnesium Oxide (MgO) substrates, with (100) crystal orientation. For this investigation, experimental magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) magnetometry and ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) techniques were employeed. In this case, these techniques allowed us to study the static and dynamical magnetization properties of our tri-layers. The experimental results were interpreted based on the phenomenological model that takes into account the relevant energy terms to the magnetic free energy to describe the system behavior. In the case of the monocrystalline Fe film, we performed an analytical discussion on the magnetization curves and developed a numerical simulation based on the Stoner-Wohlfarth model, that enables the numerical adjustment of the experimental magnetization curves and obtainment of the anisotropy field values. On the other hand, for the tri-layers, we analyzed the existence of bilinear and biquadratic couplings between the magnetizations of adjacent ferromagnetic layers from measurements of magnetization curves. With the FMR fields and line width angular dependencies, information on the anisotropy in three layers was obtained and the effects of different magnetic relaxation mechanisms were evidenced. It was also possible to observe the dependence of the epitaxy of the multilayers with growth and sputtering parameters. Additionally it was developed the technique of AC magnetic susceptibility in order to obtain further information during the investigation of magnetic thin films / Nesta disserta??o investigamos as propriedades magn?ticas de um filme monocristalino de ferro e tricamadas com a composi??o Fe(80?)/Cr(t)/Fe(80?), variando as espessuras da camada met?lica n?o magn?tica separadora (Cr) entre 9? < t < 40?.

Boundedness properties of bilinear pseudodifferential operators

Herbert, Jodi January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Mathematics / Virginia Naibo / Investigations of pseudodifferential operators are useful in a variety of applications. These include finding solutions or estimates of solutions to certain partial differential equations, studying boundedness properties of commutators and paraproducts, and obtaining fractional Leibniz rules. A pseudodifferential operator is given through integration involving the Fourier transform of the arguments and a function called a symbol. Pseudodifferential operators were first studied in the linear case and results were obtained to advance both the theory and applicability of these operators. More recently, significant progress has been made in the study of bilinear, and more generally multilinear, pseudodifferential operators. Of special interest are boundedness properties of bilinear pseudodifferential operators which have been examined in a variety of function spaces. Since determining factors in the boundedness of these operators are connected to properties of the corresponding symbols, significant effort has been directed at categorizing the symbols according to size and decay conditions as well as at establishing the associated symbolic calculus. One such category, the bilinear Hörmander classes, plays a vital role in results concerning the boundedness of bilinear pseudodifferential operators in the setting of Lebesgue spaces in particular. The new results in this work focus on the study of bilinear pseudodifferential operators with symbols in weighted Besov spaces of product type. Unlike the Hörmander classes, symbols in these Besov spaces are not required to possess in finitely many derivatives satisfying size or decay conditions. Even without this much smoothness, boundedness properties on Lebesgue spaces are obtained for bilinear operators with symbols in certain Besov spaces. Important tools in the proofs of these new results include the demonstration of appropriate estimates and the development of a symbolic calculus for some of the Besov spaces along with duality arguments. In addition to the new boundedness results and as a byproduct of studying operators with symbols in Besov spaces, it is possible to quantify the smoothness of the symbols, in terms of the conditions that define the Hörmander classes, that is sufficient for boundedness of the operators in the context of Lebesgue spaces.

An identification problem for bilinear time series models

Unknown Date (has links)
Abstract In recent years there has been a growing interest in studying bilinear time series models. However, there are difficult problems related to the order identification of these models. In this paper, we consider the bilinear time series models, Xt = BXt-k et-1 + et , k>i, k=i and k<i, and propose some methods of order identification based on the structure of autocovarance of {X2t} and the third-order-automoment of {xt}. Decision rules as well as simulated bilinear time series are compared. An advantage of our methods is its simple of implementation.

The determinant method and applications

Reuss, Thomas January 2015 (has links)
The thesis is structured into 5 chapters as follows: <strong>Chapter 1</strong> is an introduction to the tools and methods we use most frequently. <strong>Chapter 2</strong> Pairs of k-free Numbers, consecutive square-full Numbers. In this chapter, we refine the approximate determinant method by Heath-Brown. We present applications to asymptotic formulas for consecutive k-free integers, and more generally for k-free integers represented by r-tuples of linear forms. We also show how the method can be used to derive an upper bound for the number of consecutive square-full integers. Finally, we apply the method to make a statement about the size of the fundamental solution of Pell equations. <strong>Chapter 3</strong> Power-Free Values of Polynomials. A conjecture by Erdös states that for any irreducible polynomial f of degree d&ge;3 with no fixed (d-1)-th power prime divisor, there are infinfinitely many primes p such that f(p) is (d-1)-free. We prove this conjecture and derive the corresponding asymptotic formulas. <strong>Chapter 4</strong> Integer Points on Bilinear and Trilinear Equations. In the fourth chapter, we derive upper bounds for the number of integer solutions on bilinear or trilinear forms. <strong>Chapter 5</strong> In the fifth chapter, we present a method to count the monomials that occur in the projective determinant method when the method is applied to cubic varieties.

Numerical solution and spectrum of boundary-domain integral equations

Mohamed, Nurul Akmal January 2013 (has links)
A numerical implementation of the direct Boundary-Domain Integral Equation (BDIE)/ Boundary-Domain Integro-Differential Equations (BDIDEs) and Localized Boundary-Domain Integral Equation (LBDIE)/Localized Boundary-Domain Integro-Differential Equations (LBDIDEs) related to the Neumann and Dirichlet boundary value problem for a scalar elliptic PDE with variable coefficient is discussed in this thesis. The BDIE and LBDIE related to Neumann problem are reduced to a uniquely solvable one by adding an appropriate perturbation operator. The mesh-based discretisation of the BDIE/BDIDEs and LBDIE/LBDIDEs with quadrilateral domain elements leads to systems of linear algebraic equations (discretised BDIE/BDIDEs/LBDIE/BDIDEs). Then the systems obtained from BDIE/BDIDE (discretised BDIE/BDIDE) are solved by the LU decomposition method and Neumann iterations. Convergence of the iterative method is analyzed in relation with the eigen-values of the corresponding discrete BDIE/BDIDE operators obtained numerically. The systems obtained from LBDIE/LBDIDE (discretised LBDIE/LBDIDE) are solved by the LU decomposition method as the Neumann iteration method diverges.

Contributions to filtering under randomly delayed observations and additive-multiplicative noise

Allahyani, Seham January 2017 (has links)
This thesis deals with the estimation of unobserved variables or states from a time series of noisy observations. Approximate minimum variance filters for a class of discrete time systems with both additive and multiplicative noise, where the measurement might be delayed randomly by one or more sample times, are investigated. The delayed observations are modelled by up to N sample times by using N Bernoulli random variables with values of 0 or 1. We seek to minimize variance over a class of filters which are linear in the current measurement (although potentially nonlinear in past measurements) and present a closed-form solution. An interpretation of the multiplicative noise in both transition and measurement equations in terms of filtering under additive noise and stochastic perturbations in the parameters of the state space system is also provided. This filtering algorithm extends to the case when the system has continuous time state dynamics and discrete time state measurements. The Euler scheme is used to transform the process into a discrete time state space system in which the state dynamics have a smaller sampling time than the measurement sampling time. The number of sample times by which the observation is delayed is considered to be uncertain and a fraction of the measurement sample time. The same problem is considered for nonlinear state space models of discrete time systems, where the measurement might be delayed randomly by one sample time. The linearisation error is modelled as an additional source of noise which is multiplicative in nature. The algorithms developed are demonstrated throughout with simulated examples.

Coronado Villalobos, Carlos Hugo. January 2017 (has links)
The present thesis covers four important topics: spinors, bilinear covariants, Lounesto's classification and the inversion theorem. We show and explicit the construction of bilinear covariants for the Elko spinors and the necessity of deformation of the Cli ord algebra basis elements in order to satisfy the Fierz-Pauli-Ko nk identities. We also study the main ingredients of the classification of spinors elaborated by Lounesto. Finally, we construct three new classes of spinors via the inversion theorem from the premise that the bilinear covariant Jµ is null. As a consequence, these new spinors do not have usual dynamics of Dirac, have seen that Jµ in Dirac's theory represents the conserved current. The emergence of only three new classes of spinors is a direct consequence of the requeriment that Fierz-Pauli-Kofink's identities must hold / Doutor

Model Selection of Bilinear Time Series

Liou, Ruey Chih Unknown Date (has links)

Study and Realisation of Nyquist Rate Filters in Voltage Inverter Switch Technique

Bharadhwaj, Harsha January 2006 (has links)
<p>Low-sensitivity switched capacitor filters imitating 'R','L' and 'C' can be built by means of capacitances, ordinary switches and voltage inverter switches (VIS). These structures carry the inherent bilinear transformation of their doubly resistively terminated ladder reference filters. This one to one correspondence between the 's-domain' and the 'z-domain' results in the Nyquist criterion being the only limitation on the sampling frequency. This eliminates the necessity for oversampling and VIS filters can be designed for high operating rates.</p><p>Filters based on VIS principle were analysed in previous literatures in the 'phi-domain'. In this thesis work, a successful attempt has been made to formulate an analysis procedure for discrete-time filters based on VIS principle in the 'z-domain'. Significant details have been brought out in comparison with the respective reference filter. A fifth-order lowpass filter has been designed and implemented to exhibit the closeness to the bilinearly transformed continuous-time reference filter. Settling time analysis has been done to justify the need for filters using VIS principle as compared to the filters employing integrator based switched capacitor filter. It is shown that VIS filter can be made to settle within half the period required for a conventional integrator based switched capacitor filter.</p>
