Referenciais tecnológicos para a construção de edifícios. / Technical references for the building construction.Cleto, Fabiana da Rocha 29 June 2006 (has links)
The technical references" are documents that can be used in different phases of the a building project, with no legal effect as standards or Codes, developed by the agents of the industry, to establish and disseminate best practices for planning, design, execution, use, maintenance and post-use phases, with the aim of to achieve quality and performance of the final product and to consolidate and to broadcast knowledge. Such documents exist in different countries, as the model codes" or codes of practices" and the best practice guides" , but this is not the case in Brazil, even though we can find some initiatives in this way. Consequently, the objective of this research is to analyse, discuss and propose technical, methodological and institutional orientations to the implementation of technical referencesfor the building construction sector in Brazil. For this purpose, there is a review of documents such as procurement texts and technical manuals, an analysis of their structures and contents and a deeperexamination of the application of the document used in social housing projects in Sao Paulo. Some foreign documents are also analysed, as well as the technical documents model used in France ('RFXPHQWV_ 7HFKQLTXHV_ 8QLILpV_ __ '78), discussing its adaptation to fit Brazilian reality. The conclusion of this work lies in the analysis, amongst other factors, of the concept of technical reference documents, its context and interfaces, bringing orientation concerning their structure and content, and presenting difficulties and opportunities of developing and using them, as well as showing the need of additional actions, including those of institutional nature, that contribute to their practical and effective use.

Country Risk Assessment In The Construction IndustryAkcamete, Asli 01 December 2006 (has links) (PDF)
Every business involves risk, but due to its nature, construction business involves more risk than many other industries. Therefore, risk assessment is indispensable to the success of construction companies in terms of, preventing dramatic financial losses. When the decision process for expanding the operations in the international construction market is concerned, it becomes more important for companies to analyze the risk of the target country. For this reason, construction firms benefit from many different risk assessment methods. Contractors prevalent practice of risk assessment is identifying related risks and making an evaluation relying on their personal judgments (without substantial explicit support), but none of the applied methods is construction specific. To overcome this, a construction specific country Risk Breakdown Structure (RBS) is prepared. While preparing this construction specific RBS, not only macro level country risks but also market risks for construction are considered in order to reflect the real risks of performing construction business in foreign countries. Consequently, a tentative country RBS specific for construction industry is constructed and its reliability is tested by interviews carried out with six professionals from four Turkish construction companies operating in international markets. After finalization of the RBS, utilization method of practical aspects of RBS is questioned by interviewing the experts. Finally, a case study is conducted to propose a company-specific system for iv
the implementation of RBS. The case study findings demonstrate the applicability of RBS and its potential as a systematic country risk assessment tool.

Acoustical Evaluation Of Shopping Mall TypologyCaliskan, Ekrem Bahadir 01 September 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Acoustic design of shopping malls which have become very popular in recent years, has gained importance and it has been considered as an integral part of the design &ndash / construction and life cycle treatment of such complex &ndash / functional buildings. In this study, acoustic qualities of shopping malls are to be inquired by focusing on circulation areas and atrium spaces where noise is one of major disturbances. In this context, first taxonomy of shopping malls regarding their geometrical forms is to be proposed together with plan layouts, construction materials and spatial organizations. Then some of these malls in representing major characteristics of the each class in the taxonomy are to be acoustically analyzed and compared with standards by aiming to provide some guiding principles for acoustical design of such spaces.

from the content:
„Compared to the automated production of other industrial sectors, construction with concrete is still strongly characterized by craftsmanship. In addition, the final properties of concrete components are strongly dependent on the environmental conditions during production. This leads to inaccuracies and uncertainties during construction, which result in inefficient use of materials and disruptions in the construction process. Long construction times and waiting periods in the case of disruptions are the consequences....”

Current maintenance strategies of university building facilities in the Western Cape, South AfricaSimpeh, Frederick January 2013 (has links)
Thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Technology: Construction Management (Facility Management)
Department of Construction Management and Quantity Surveying
In the Faculty of Engineering
At the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2013 / Universities generally have low budgets for building maintenance and this reality, often aggravated by further reductions, results in a decline in the condition and performance of buildings. This particular research investigated the current building maintenance strategies of Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). The aim of the research was to develop improvement, prioritisation and involvement strategies to guide the maintenance of the performance parameters of the lecture theatres to ensure a performance level that meets the satisfaction of students, thereby promoting their learning experience.
A mixed research design was used for the main study. A “case study” approach was adopted. CPUT was selected and three lecture theatres were selected as the cases for the research study. An exploratory study was carried out at the initial stage of the study, helping to formulate the research question and objectives for the main study. Observations, interviews and questionnaires were used to collect the primary data for the main study. A total of 430 questionnaires were distributed, out of which 283 representing a response rate of 65.8% were duly completed and returned. Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) model together with both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse the data.
The findings revealed that the performance of lecture theatres affects learning experience, and that all identified performance parameters were important to students’ learning experience. However, lighting, structural safety, ventilation and cleanliness were more highly ranked than fire safety & exit and aesthetics. It also became evident that, while all the performance parameters appeared to be underperforming, the performance of structural safety and lighting seemed satisfactory in all the lecture theatres, whereas ventilation, temperature, fire safety & exit (particularly old lecture theatres) and sound control were clearly underperforming. Furthermore, the study revealed that students are not involved in the maintenance management process of the lecture theatres whereas their involvement could ensure their satisfaction. Students perceived that instituting maintenance coordinators would be the most effective way of ensuring their involvement, followed by placing suggestion box in the department, or possibly organising forums at departmental level.
To achieve better lecture theatre performance, the CPUT maintenance department needs to improve on the HVAC system (ventilation and temperature), fire safety & exit (particularly old lecture theatres) and sound control but without neglecting the other performance parameters. A further study to include teaching staff, additional lecture theatres and more parameters is highly recommended as it will provide a broader perspective to further help the CPUT maintenance department better maintain the lecture theatres.
