In the city of Pelotas in the mid-nineteenth and early twentieth century, the assistance to the needy, children, elderly, beggars, or other risk groups was not carried out by the state but by the local population, mainly by those better located at the social pyramid. The present work will focus on the Asylum of Beggars and the Asylum of Orphans Saint Benedict institutions and their benefactors during the period between 1880-1920. The research has the scope of discussing the various forms of charity, considerations questions about the exchanges that happened between institution and benefactor who predominantly belonged to the local elites. The study will bring political, social and economic elements of the dominant groups of the period and their connections with charitable practices. Finally, we will analyze the trajectory of three influential individuals in the city of Pelotas, who were some of the few who knew how to practice charity and benefit from it, albeit indirectly. This work was based on diverse primary sources (Personal objects, newspapers, reports, records, history, portraits, etc.) and we used our won methodology based on the portraits in the salons of honorof those institutions with the purpose of identifying who were the most important Pelotenses in the local charity circuit. After identifying the political, economic and charitable elite, it was sought to answer the importance of charity for the dominant groups and for the groups that wanted to ascend socially and what was the role of the institutions in this process

Social work and learning disabilities : an exploration of the contribution of social work within a multi-disciplinary teamLawrence, Julie Alexandra January 2017 (has links)
Effective delivery of health and social care requires collaboration between professions. The aim of this research study was to explore one element of that collaboration – the contribution made by social workers to multi-disciplinary professional practice in adult services in England. The study was conducted against the backcloth of the Modernisation agenda for health and social care integration. This approach was first introduced by the New Labour Government (1997-2010) and strengthened by the vision and expectations championed in the policy documents, Valuing People (2001) and Valuing People Now (2009) for adults with learning disabilities. Hermeneutical phenomenology, drawn from Heidegger, underpinned the methodological and philosophical approach which led to an emphasis upon rich description and interpretations of individual lived-worlds. The theoretical position adopted was informed by Wenger’s work on Communities of Practice, which is grounded in the importance of social interactions inherent within multi-disciplinary practice between different professionals. Participants included registered social workers (n=9) and allied health professionals (n=8). Data was generated over a nine month period. Semi-structured interviews were utilised with all professional participants. Data was analysed using Nvivo (10) and an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis towards the data was adopted. Individual vignettes were presented on behalf of local citizens (n=9) which represented their personal narratives about the value of social work, embedded within this multi-disciplinary context. The key findings highlighted the unwavering commitment from social workers to advocate on behalf of vulnerable adults. This was underpinned by adherence to professional social work values which facilitated their abilities to deliver a plethora of professional services. Allied health professionals substantiated the important contributions of social workers within the multi-disciplinary team, alongside local citizens who confirmed social workers valuable roles as part of their complex networks of support. The implications from this research study suggested that inter-professional education and training could augment collaboration between professions to progress the current health and social care agenda, focused upon integration in England.

Koncept životního pojištění s dobročinnou složkou / The Concept of Life Insurance with Charitable ComponentNečas, Dalibor January 2010 (has links)
Author comes with a new product concept, which extends the current offering of life insurance. He wants to encourage a target group of potential customers who are not satisfied with ordinary life insurance products to enter into life insurance. The reason is an effort to prevent people from economic consequences of population aging. The new life insurance product is based on a specific use of profit shares from life insurance premium reserve in a form of charitable component. For insurance companies the new product represents an opportunity to cooperate with non-commercial charitable subjects especially in the area of marketing. On the other hand the charities obtain by this cooperation a long-term income for their activities.

Cybersecurity experiences and practices in charitiesLindström, Christoffer January 2022 (has links)
This study investigates the security practices of nonprofit organisations in Sweden. Nonprofit organisations are organisations with a social mission. They collect sensitive and critical information, use ICT like other organisations, and face threats from cybercrime. But we know little about how nonprofit organisations protect their assets. The method used for the research was an explorative and descriptive study using a survey methodology with interviews and a questionnaire as the instruments of data collection. Interviews were conducted for five weeks beginning in March. The questionnaire was distributed at the beginning of April to 421 charity organisations. Of those, 58 charities provided valid responses after four weeks. Based on the interviews and questionnaire responses, this research describes charity experiences and practises of cybersecurity. It describes the charity's use of both organisational and technical measures. It also describes the importance that the charity places on cybersecurity, previous experiences of breaches, and challenges with trust and transparency. The results are compared to previous research on nonprofits and small business security. The findings indicate that the current cybersecurity practice in charities is weak—most of the respondents report only using standard technical measures like anti-virus and firewalls. Less frequently, other standard technical measures are used. Charities are split on their use of organisational measures. A slight majority have identified attacks in the last 12 months. Charities respond that their level, knowledge, and budget for cybersecurity are either insufficient or sufficient. Interview findings are that charities are incentivised to prioritise money towards the mission, which prevents them from making investments in cybersecurity. Further research looking to make an impact should explore how society can incentivise charities and donors to invest in cybersecurity.
