Closed-Loop Tracking System Provides Reference for Data Collection Exercises

Wallace, Keith, Weinberg, Patrick 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 26-29, 1992 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California / A computational system was developed to support data collection for advanced airborne technology research. Basic research is conducted using a variety of sensing devices for collection of flight characteristics data from aircraft. To maximize control over as many variables as possible during research activities, a controlled aircraft tracking environment is needed to provide reference data for real-time operation and post-mission analysis. The solution to this requirement is realized with the ACMI Interface System (ACINTS). The ACINTS extracts real-time tracking data from a closed-loop telemetered tracking array, reprocesses needed parameters, provides reference data (positioning and control commands) to the sensor device, and records aircraft kinematics for later correlation with other collected data.

Classification of Nilpotent Lie Algebras of Dimension 7 (over Algebraically Closed Field and R)

Gong, Ming-Peng January 1998 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with the classification of 7-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras. Skjelbred and Sund have published in 1977 their method of constructing all nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension n given those algebras of dimension < n, and their automorphism groups. By using this method, we construct all nonisomorphic 7-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras in the following two cases: (1) over an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic except 2; (2) over the real field R. We have compared our lists with three of the most recent lists (those of Seeley, Ancochea-Goze, and Romdhani). While our list in case (1) over C differs greatly from that of Ancochea-Goze, which contains too many errors to be usable, it agrees with that of Seeley apart from a few corrections that should be made in his list, Our list in case (2) over R contains all the algebras on Romdhani's list, which omits many algebras.

The Effect of Bacillus subtilis on Pathogenic Vibrio Control for Grouper (Epinephelus Coioides) Fingerling Culture in a Recirculatory System

Carolina, Andrea 07 September 2011 (has links)
Preventing diseases in aquatic animals is of significant economic importance, since small fish have high mortality rates due to high incidences of disease, low water quality among others. Several years ago, the main treatment to protect fishes against different bacterial diseases in hatchery conditions were chemotherapeutic agents (antibiotics) or vaccination. The previous methods may change the profile of a healthy gut microflora, while the vaccination method can be stressful for fish; both methods can enable the access of some pathogens. The use of chemotherapeutic agents can also lead to resistant bacteria, and so their use should be restricted or at least controlled; and so, this study was conducted to investigate the effects of different amounts of probiotics on the water quality parameters in the culture of grouper fingerling (Epinephelus Coioides); species which has become one of the main cultured fish in Taiwan according to FAO. The effects of the probiotic, Bacillus subtilis, on grouper fingerling breeding and water quality was evaluated in this study by adding the probiotic to the feed. Two concentrations of probiotic were administered including 0.1%, 1.0% and the control. During the experiment, fingerling development, growth rate, survival rate and water quality parameters including ammonia-N and nitrite-N, total bacterial count, and presumptive Vibrio count were determined. The presumptive Vibrio count presented was significantly suppressed after Bacillus treatment.

Design and characterization of convective thermal cyclers for high-speed DNA analysis

Agrawal, Nitin 15 May 2009 (has links)
An ideal polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system should be capable of rapidly amplifying a wide range of targets in both single and multiplex formats. Unfortunately, the timescales and complexities involved in many existing technologies impose significant limitations on achievable throughput. Buoyancy driven PCR is emerging as a simplified version of thermally driven bio-analysis systems. Here, we demonstrate a simplified convectively driven thermocycler capable of performing single and multiplex PCR for amplicons ranging from 191 bp to 1.3 kb within 10 to 50 minutes using 10 to 25 µL reaction volumes. By positioning two independent thermoelectric heating elements along the perimeter of a flow loop reactor constructed using ordinary plastic tubing, a buoyancy-driven flow is established that continuously circulates reagents through temperature zones associated with the PCR process. Unlike conventional benchtop thermocyclers, this arrangement allows reactions to be performed without the need for dynamic temperature control of inactive hardware components while maintaining comparable product yields and requiring no modifications to standard PCR protocols. We also provide a general correlation that can be applied to design reactor geometries satisfying virtually any combination of reagent volume and cycling time. In addition to offering an attractive combination of cost and performance, this system is readily adaptable for portable battery powered operation, making it feasible to perform PCRbased assays in a broader array of settings.

The Role of Acidizing in Proppant Fracturing in Carbonate Reservoirs

Densirimongkol, Jurairat 2009 August 1900 (has links)
Today, optimizing well stimulation techniques to obtain maximum return of investment is still a challenge. Hydraulic fracturing is a typical application to improve ultimate recovery from oil and gas reservoirs. Proppant fracturing has become one of the most widely considered alternatives for application in carbonate reservoirs. Especially in areas that have high closure stress, the non-smoothly etched surface created by acid fracturing may not remain open upon closing, resulting in decrease in fracture conductivity and unsuccessful stimulation treatment. In early years, because of the increase in the success of proppant fracturing, proppant partial monolayer has been put forward as a method that helps generate the maximum fracture conductivity from proppant fracturing treatment. However, this method was not widely successful because of proppant crushing and proppant embedment problems that result in losing conductivity. The ability to transport propping agents in available fracturing fluid was also poor and resulted in difficulties and failures to obtain proppant partial monolayer placement. For carbonate formations, acid fracturing is another effective stimulation method. Simpler operation and lower cost made the technique attractive in the field with plenty of successful experiences. The heterogeneity feature of carbonate formation brings a challenge to create sufficient conductivity. In cases of high closure formation, fracture conductivity is hard to sustain. This factor limited the applications of acid fracturing sometimes. In this study, laboratory tests were carried out using low concentrations of ultralightweight proppant to obtain partial monolayer proppant. Because of low specific gravity property of this proppant, it was claimed to help improve proppant transport inside the fracture. In this experimental study, the partial monolayer technique was examined with particular emphasis upon the impact of acid in possibly improving fracture conductivity of carbonate rocks. The technique is referred as "closed fracture acidizing". After obtaining a partial monolayer distribution on the fracture face, gelled acid was injected through the fracture face. Fracture conductivity before and after acid injection were evaluated. Experimental results showed clearly that acid injection does not enhance fracture conductivity of partial monolayer proppant fracturing. The more the volume of acid injection, the more rapidly fracture conductivity declines.

The studies of investor sentiment proxy variables

Huang, Kuo-chan 24 June 2004 (has links)
More and more events and anomalies that have happened in recent years cannot be explained by traditional models, which leads to a pervasive doubt of the effectiveness of the efficient market hypothesis. In particular, over ninety percent of Taiwan¡¦s stock market investors are individuals, and the noise trading phenomenon is very common and has a great effect upon the return of stock. Hence, the measure of investor sentiment formed by noise traders becomes a task for the researcher studying the factors which effect the stock return in Taiwan. The objective of this paper is to find the investor sentiment proxy variables which can be a significant factor in explaining stock return. This analysis adopts the arbitrage pricing model of the macroeconomic factors. The sample contains data for most listed stocks on the Taiwan Stock Exchange from 1984 to 2002. By combining the stock or company characteristic related to the noise traders¡¦ perception, including market value, stock and etc., and phenomenons effect by investor sentiment, including closed-end fund discount, initial returns on IPOs, and number of IPOs to the arbitrage pricing model , we found that closed-end fund discount and initial returns on IPOs are significant and appropriate to investor sentiment proxy variables. However, the number of IPOs is not significant enough
