The Straits Times' reporting of Singapore's communication news, 1992-1995Tan, Lay Siong, n/a January 1996 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to analyse how the Straits Times reported
Singapore's communication news between May 1992 and October 1995,
with a focus on Singapore's communication regionalisation. This study is
a modest attempt to depart from some of the approaches taken by recent
communication related studies of the Singapore experience. They tend to
focus on the domestic side of state-press relationship and the issue of
Singaporean press freedom, without sustained consideration of external
forces, such as globalisation.
This analysis provides a synthesis of secondary sources and a qualitative
content analysis of communication news in the Straits Times. The results
suggest there has been a convergence between the stories in the Straits
Times and official views about two themes - business regionalisation and
'Asian' media standards. Results suggest the government has an
extensive influence over Singapore's communication, especially with
regard to media content. Also, the analysis shows Singapore's
identification with Asia, despite bilateral and regional tensions in business
and culture, and suggests an uneasy relationship between Singapore and
the West, in particular, with the US. That is, while Singapore's business
relations with the US are good, its cultural relations are not, especially
when Singapore's practice of media standards does not accept the
American interpretation, but one based on its national interests.
This study provides a glimpse of global communication forces which
are influencing Singapore's communication development, as interpreted
in the stories from the Straits Times. Although there remains
uncertainties about Singapore's communication future, this study may
provide an insight as to whether Singapore has taken the right direction
in becoming a leading country in advocating an 'Asian voice'.

Mediální framing úniku ropy v Norilsku / Media framing of the Norilsk oil spillTsymbal, Daria January 2021 (has links)
Title: Media framing of the Norilsk oil spill Author: Daria Tsymbal Supervisor: Mgr. Jan Miessler, Department of Media Studies, Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism (ICSJ) Abstract: This study examines how the Norilsk oil spill in May 2020 was framed within four factors of Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT): 1. Severity of the damage; 2. Crisis responsibility; 4. Crisis history; 5. Relationship history. Also, this study examines how media ownership and closeness of the media to the government influence the framing of Norilsk Oil Spill. Using content analyses, three Russian newspapers were analyzed - Novaya Gazeta, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, and Kommersant. The results demonstrated differences in usage and frequency of frames according to media ownership and closeness to the government. Also, findings revealed that there are differences in framing concerning time frame. This thesis provides evidence that four factors in SCCT concepts (Severity of the damage, Crisis responsibility, Crisis history, Relationship history) can serve as frames in media framing analyses of crises. In addition, this study provides information for crisis managers and media professionals on how one particular crisis may be differently framed in different newspapers. Keywords: Media, crisis communication,...

Vliv public relations na česká média po roce 1989 / Constraints of Public relations on Czech media after 1989Střelcová, Alexandra January 2012 (has links)
(EN) Diploma thesis "Constraints of Public Relations on Czech Media after 1989"deals with one crucial aspect of journalism which is the influence of various interest groups on the content of the media by public relations. It concerns with the topic from the point of view of professional journalists as media content producers and attempts to find out what mechanisms are driving the Czech media system in regards to public relations. The thesis examines shortly the history of public relations, both in the Anglo-saxon world and the Czech lands before and after 1989. Definitions of public relations are later applied on selected critical media theories, such as those of Scottish PR theoreticians Dinan and Miller, Herman and Chomsky's Propaganda model or Boorstin's idea of pseudo-events. Sociology of news and one of its most important protagonists, Brian McNair, also speaks critically on the influence of public relations, therefore his contribution to the topic is also an essential theoretical frame. The fourth chapter deals with selected methods of public relations such as spin doctoring, third-party endorsement or crisis communication. A particular analysis is dedicated to the Stockholm Charter and the IPRA Charter, the most important ethical frameworks that all public relations departments should abide...

Globální terorismus a média jako prostředek komunikace / Global Terrorism and the Media as the Means of CommunicationČernikov, Dmitrij January 2011 (has links)
The master thesis Global terrorism and the media as the means of communication focuses on examining the relationship between terrorist organisations and the news media which play a key role in planning terrorist attacks. The author assumes that a better understanding of the mutual relationship within the communication process requires the engagement of other players into the research as well: the government and the public. Their mutual interdependence is illustrated on the abstract model from which the author, afterwards, deduces the factors which influence relationships between all the players.
