Diseño e implementación de una experiencia para talleres de introducción a la ingenieríaGarvs Martínez, Joshua Gunther January 2014 (has links)
Ingeniero Civil Eléctrico / La malla de Plan Común de ingeniería y ciencias de la Facultad de Ciencias Físicas y Matemáticas de la Universidad de Chile, determina que los estudiantes de primer año deben cursar las asignaturas de Introducción a la Ingeniería I y II, en las cuales desarrollan proyectos de ingeniería de forma grupal; diseñando, implementando y operando sus propias soluciones conforme a problemas escalables al quehacer de la ingeniería.
La asignatura de Introducción a la Ingeniería es dictada en nueve secciones, conformadas por veinte grupos de cinco alumnos cada una, esta distribución está determinada por la Universidad y permite realizar un trabajo estructurado y sistemático. Se debe considerar que para la implementación de los proyectos de estas asignaturas de Ingeniería la Universidad dispone de recursos económicos y dedicación de tiempo limitados por alumno.
En este Trabajo de Memoria se implementa el diseño de una experiencia para cursos de taller de introducción a la ingeniería II. Para ello se define un plan de trabajo, se diseñan los componentes mecánicos, eléctricos y computacionales, se confecciona el material de trabajo para ser utilizado durante el desarrollo de la experiencia y se define un plan piloto para la implementación de la actividad propuesta.
La actividad definida para los alumnos consiste en el diseño, implementación y puesta en marcha (u operación) de un sistema de detección y transporte de carga que realiza un proceso cíclico controlado por una plataforma de desarrollo Arduino, que permite la manipulación de dispositivos electrónicos. Se mantiene el enfoque CDIO (Concebir, diseñar, implementar y operar) en el que se busca acercar el quehacer de la ingeniería, al estructurar una actividad en base a un problema concreto, para los alumnos, en la que se ponga a prueba sus conocimientos teóricos y sus habilidades.
La propuesta concebida logra su objetivo y se mantiene dentro de los requerimientos y restricciones propios del curso de Introducción a la Ingeniería II.

Association Between Time Trying to Conceive and Self-Perceptions of Female InfertilityBarker, Morgan, Clark, Emily, Altschuler,, Rebecca, M.A., Dodd,, Julia, Ph.D. 12 April 2019 (has links)
Female infertility is a prevalent global health concern. Social class has been examined in relation to interpretations of formal infertility diagnoses. However, this study sought to investigate subjective self-definitions of infertility experiences. This study compared reported length of time trying to conceive and self-perceptions of infertility status, which created four groups: women who met the medical definition of infertility and considered themselves to be experiencing infertility, women who met the medical definition and did not consider themselves to be experiencing infertility, women who did not meet the medical definition but did consider themselves to be experiencing infertility, and women who did not meet the medical definition of infertility and did not consider themselves to be experiencing infertility. We were interested in examining subjective socioeconomic status as a predictor of group membership, operating on the idea that women who perceive themselves as lower SES might be less likely to acknowledge a subjective infertility status due to more limited resources for treatment. Female participants (N = 1233) were recruited from the social networking site Reddit to complete online self-report surveys created via the REDCap survey platform. A subset of female participants (n = 548) who reported they were currently trying to conceive was utilized for this study’s sample. A chi-square test of independence was conducted to examine the relationship between reported length of time trying to conceive and self-perceptions of infertility status. Results indicated a significant association between these variables, χ2 (1, N = 594) = 239.08, p < .001, indicating that women’s self-perception of whether or not they were experiencing infertility was largely in line with the medical definition of infertility. We intended to conduct logistic regression analysis to examine subjective socioeconomic status as a predictor of group membership, specifically for women who met the medical definition of infertility but did not perceive themselves as experiencing infertility. However, logistic regression was not performed due to a lack of statistical power for this group (n = 14). Future research should expand upon this rationale to inclusively investigate factors contributing to self-identification of infertility experiences. Understanding the role of psychosocial factors involved in infertility status perceptions could facilitate specific interventions to promote infertility treatment-seeking behaviors.

Fertility-Awareness Practices Among Women Seeking Pregnancy:Pérez Capotosto, Melissa January 2021 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Corrine Y. Jurgens / Background: Infertility is a source of significant distress to women, their partners, and their families. If women are unable to identify the time in their cycle when conception is most likely (the fertile window) then they may be referred to fertility services unnecessarily, which incur costly, invasive, and risky interventions. Little is known about women’s experiences trying to conceive using fertility-awareness based methods. Objective: The purpose of this dissertation research is to examine fertility-awareness based method (FABMs) use among women seeking pregnancy, specifically as it relates to fertility knowledge, method frequency, predictors of use, and duration of pregnancy attempt. Methods: This manuscript-style dissertation will utilize multiple data sources and methods to address four major goals. First, an integrative review of peer-reviewed publications will synthesize the literature regarding fertility knowledge and fertility- awareness practices (Aim 1). Second, a secondary analysis of data from the CDC’s National Survey of Family Growth (2015-2017) will be used to identify factors that influence women’s decision to use FABMs (Aim 2). Third, an analysis of data from the Nurses’ Health Study 3 will be used to evaluate whether duration of current pregnancy attempt is associated with FABM(s) use (Aim 3). Lastly, a case study will be presented using the qualitative methodology of narrative interview to describe women’s experiences using FABMs to achieve pregnancy (Aim 4). This thesis explores how a displayed image and architecture interact together. This manifesto is analogically explored using parts of the human body such as the eyeballs as a structural analysis for the buildings with a projection of the cornea, the pupil, the retina, the optic nerves and the brain. This analysis follows a sequential order of capturing light, transcribing light into image, and displaying such image onto a screen. Both, the image and architecture are created parallel to each other respectively when conceiving an architectural idea in order to develop the idea into a building and then perceiving the architecture from such building.
These steps are a cinematic approach using a video camera to record an experience of movement through the journey of a metro ride. This video is one of the tools used to edit an urban tissue of downtown Washington, D.C. The project becomes a Center for the Art of Moving Images exposing vectors of movements through its architecture. The building is manifested in a three-dimensional design where the site provides a sunken plaza 60 ft below street level perceived as a new floor in the city. The underground metro station transitions to the street surface through the use of this plaza in a very harmonious way. The result is a visual depth parallel to the perspectives perceived in movies where you see beyond the surface of the screen and in this case, beyond the surface of the city. / Master of Architecture
