Do Cultures Really Matter? : A Case Study of Human Resource Management Strategies

PAN, Shumin January 2009 (has links)

The purpose of this research study is to explore the relationship between cultures and Human Resource Management Strategies in Swedish Multinational Corporations. In order to achieve this purpose, a multiple-methods research design is adopted. The study consists of two steps. The first step is a pilot study which aims to give a general picture and the direction for the further case study. A case study is the second step; here, three companies are studied by conducting interviews: ArtsNordica, TeliaSonera and Company A, with the intention of highlighting the important issues of cultures and HRM strategies.

Lavergne, Stéphanie 01 February 2021 (has links)
Grain corn (Zea mays L.) is a high nitrogen (N) demanding crop, and synchronizing N supply with crop N needs is particularly challenging for organic producers. Therefore, they rely heavily on legume cover crops (CC) for N input. The overall goal of the research project was to assess the effect of fall-seeded cover crop mixtures on nitrogen supply to corn. A two-year field experiment was repeated at Laval University experimental farm (2017-2018; 2018-2019) and on an organic commercial farm (2017-2018). The experimental design was a split-plot with four blocks, in which CC treatment (Year 1) was the main plot factor: a weedy control without CC, a pure stand of field pea (Pisum sativum L.), and mixtures of 2, 6 and 12 species. The corn organic fertilization (Year 2) was the subplot factor (0 or 120 kg N ha-1 ). Among all site-years, the proportion of field pea in the total aboveground biomass ranged from 45 to 93%, within all mixtures. The highest aboveground plant biomass (2,636 kg ha-1 ) and the lowest belowground plant biomass (693 kg ha-1 ) were both observed in the pure stand of field pea. In the fall, weed biomass was inversely correlated with cover crop aboveground biomass. Nitrogen content in the aboveground plant biomass ranged from 8 to 140 kg N ha-1 , whereas N content of the belowground plant biomass averaged 13 kg N ha-1 . The highest corn yield was observed in the pure stand of field pea, the 2-species, and the 12-species mixtures, while the lowest yield was observed in the weedy control and the 6-species mixture. Moreover, organic fertilization only increased corn yield by 10% for all CC treatments and site-years. Additional innovative CC management practices are needed to make organic CC-based corn cropping systems more productive.
