Demonstration of a Completely Described Swirling Jet Experiment Used for Numerical ValidationWilson, Brandon M. 01 May 2009 (has links)
This thesis demonstrates the standard for the design of an experimental model to be used for numerical validation purposes. It is proposed that numerical models may be assessed more accurately and directly by validation with a completely described experimental model, consisting of accurate descriptions of the operating conditions, fluid properties, and experimental uncertainties. This idea is demonstrated using an experimental model of a swirling jet at three Reynolds numbers (Re = 550, 2560, and 3650), with vortex breakdown existing in the higher two Reynolds number cases. Measurements of the swirling jet were obtained at two locations upstream of the jet exit with the intent to provide the flow profiles to the numerical model and four downstream locations used to assess the accuracy of the model. Numerical simulations using the laminar model and k-e, k-w, and k-e-v^2-f turbulence models were used for turbulence closure. Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) and Reynolds-stress model results were also obtained to demonstrate unsteady numerical solutions. The results of the experimental and numerical models are compared to understand the influence on validation using a completely described experimental model.

Adolescent Self-Described Volume of Texting: Discovering Relationships with Psychosocial Development and Interpersonal RelationshipsCutler, Tessa 01 May 2014 (has links)
Researchers explored the relationship among adolescent self-reported amounts of texting and self-esteem, self-construal, autonomy, and attachment. Data were collected from a high school in an urban area in the Mountain West. Participants included 180 students (53% female). Participants were asked to self-describe their volume of texting as high, medium, or low. Participants were also asked to complete the following scales: Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, the Self-Construal Scale, the Case Inventory, The Adolescent Autonomy Questionnaire, and The Modified Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment.
It is suggested that text messaging is more strongly related to self-esteem when texting is placed as the dependent variable for both males and females. Results showed that this was the pattern for each variable in question. Results also showed that Cognitive Autonomy mean scores were lower for females on four out of the five subscales of the autonomy measure. This finding was opposite from the mean scores of attachment, which revealed that females tend to have higher parental attachment scores than males.

In this article, I propose a methodology and some practical recommendations to make descriptive fieldwork with little-described languages based on my own field experience in the Western Amazonia. The topics I develop here include the evaluation and use of the linguistic literature available, the preparation for the permanence in the field, the relationship with the language speakers, the techniques for gathering data and the process of writing a descriptive piece of work. I try to stress the importance of strategies to make the collection of the data as objective and rigorous as possible and the description as responsible and reliable as it can be.

Analysis, synthesis and application of automaton-based constraint descriptionsFrancisco Rodríguez, María Andreína January 2017 (has links)
Constraint programming (CP) is a technology in which a combinatorial problem is modelled as a conjunction of constraints on variables ranging over given initial domains, and optionally an objective function on the variables. Such a model is given to a general-purpose solver performing systematic search to find constraint-satisfying domain values for the variables, giving an optimal value to the objective function. A constraint predicate (also known as a global constraint) does two things: from the modelling perspective, it allows a modeller to express a commonly occurring combinatorial substructure, for example that a set of variables must take distinct values; from the solving perspective, it comes with a propagation algorithm, called a propagator, which removes some but not necessarily all impossible values from the current domains of its variables when invoked during search. Although modern CP solvers have many constraint predicates, often a predicate one would like to use is not available. In the past, the choices were either to reformulate the model or to write one's own propagator. In this dissertation, we contribute to the automatic design of propagators for new predicates. Integer time series are often subject to constraints on the aggregation of the features of all maximal occurrences of some pattern. For example, the minimum width of the peaks may be constrained. Automata allow many constraint predicates for variable sequences, and in particular many time-series predicates, to be described in a high-level way. Our first contribution is an algorithm for generating an automaton-based predicate description from a pattern, a feature, and an aggregator. It has previously been shown how to decompose an automaton-described constraint on a variable sequence into a conjunction of constraints whose predicates have existing propagators. This conjunction provides the propagation, but it is unknown how to propagate it efficiently. Our second contribution is a tool for deriving, in an off-line process, implied constraints for automaton-induced constraint decompositions to improve propagation. Further, when a constraint predicate functionally determines a result variable that is unchanged under reversal of a variable sequence, we provide as our third contribution an algorithm for deriving an implied constraint between the result variables for a variable sequence, a prefix thereof, and the corresponding suffix.

Kalibrace měřícího zařízení aerodynamického tunelu VUT / Wind tunnel measuring equipment calibrationde Boer, Hendrik January 2021 (has links)

Analýza výskytu vybraných zoonóz v Jihočeském kraji / Analysis of occurrences of selected zoonoses in South Bohemian regionSOUMAROVÁ, Michaela January 2015 (has links)
This diploma thesis is focused on the evaluation of six selected zoonoses with the occurrence in South Bohemia (campylobacteriosis, salmonellosis, listeriosis, tick-borne meningoencephalitis, Lyme borreliosis, tularemia) between the years 2003-2013. Campylobacteriosis and salmonellosis were evaluated the most common zoonoses in the South Bohemian Region during the monitored period. Their common feature is the alimentary transmission. Between 2003 to 2008 salmonellosis recorded the highest number of reported cases, on the contrary, campylobacteriosis has reported the highest number of occurrences since 2008. District of Czech Budweis showed the highest incidence of both zoonoses during the monitored period (4,139 cases of salmonellosis and 4,924 cases of campylobacteriosis). Another but not less important zoonotic is tick-borne meningoencephalitis, which incidence had the highest number in South Bohemian Region of all the regions of Czech Republic. The second part of the thesis is based on questionnaire studies focused on awareness of zoonoses and the issue of resistance and overuse of antibiotics. In total 479 questionnaires were evaluated. The survey findings may be equally described as interesting and positive, since the respondents had considerable awareness of the issue of antibiotic resistance.

The aim of this work is to study from a signal processing point of view the use of MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) communication systems for algorithms dedicated to wireless sensor networks. We investigate energy-constrained wireless sensor networks and we focus on cluster topology of the network. This topology permits for the use of MIMO communication system model. First, we review different aspects that characterize the wireless sensor network. Then, we introduce the existing strategies for energy conservation in the network. The basic concepts of MIMO systems are presented in the second chapter and numerical results are provided for evaluating the performances of MIMO techniques. Of particular interest, polarization diversity over rich scattering environment is studied. Thereafter, beamforming approach is proposed for the development of an original localization algorithm in wireless sensor network. The novel algorithm is described and performances are evaluated by simulation. We determine the optimal system configuration between a pair of clusters that permits for the highest capacity to energy ratio in the fourth chapter. The final chapter is devoted to sensor nodes selection in wireless sensor network. The aim of using such technique is to make energy conservation in the network.

Kulturně společenské centrum u brněnské přehrady - architektonická studie objektů pro kulturně společenské i sportovní akce / The cultural and community centre near the Brno dam - the architectural design of buildings for cultural and social and sports eventsŠmihula, Michal January 2010 (has links)
The design of cultural centre is situated in part Kozia Hôrka( well-known city swimming pool), in its advantage takes natural scenery and calm atmosphere of place. Into action of performance brings a message in form of body of reservoir, function of centre is divided into small parts placed in area Kozia Hôrka. Orientation of objects comes mainly from local natural ispirations. Complex is multifunctional in concept, counts with several sorts of culture - sports events. Whereby the main function of swimming pool is preserved and added for higher comfort of inhabitants. Architecture of objects comes from idea of floating leaf on water level and body of reservoir. Objects stylizely illustrate this idea. The design takes the game of solids of organic and strictly ortogonal shapes. Two mutual opposites, in interaction. Objects smoothy and with respect encroach the environment, which is enough marked by human. Simplicity in used materials ( glass, steel, wood ) give transparency and purity to whole solution.
