Marijuana-tourism| Disruptive Innovation for Small Island Developing States

Wenner, Gemma Antonine 23 March 2019 (has links)

The Caribbean region consists of many small island developing states (SIDS) that are dependent on a sun, sea, and sand (3-S) tourism product. These SIDS are facing declining competitiveness vis-à-vis other tourism destinations and need to differentiate and rejuvenate their tourism product offerings. This study investigates the extent to which marijuana-tourism can lead to disruptive innovations (DI) in SIDS that are tourist dependent. A systematic review, using 53 research articles and a thematic synthesis analyzing seven different themes: (1) demographic profile of marijuana users and potential market size, (2) marijuana-tourism motivations, (3) common uses of marijuana, (4) types and structures of legal and regulatory frameworks, (5) cultivation, distribution, and marketing factors, (6) economic impacts of legalized recreational marijuana; and (7) adverse health and safety impacts were elaborated. The principal findings are that the regulatory framework for legalization acts as a mediating variable for defining the scope and structure of marijuana-related businesses and tourism niches that appear. When the recreational regulatory framework permits private competition, as evidenced in the early pioneering jurisdictions, significant economic benefits have resulted and at the same time social and health costs have been attenuated to date. In the context of SIDS, legal regimes are still largely prohibitionist, and in a few instances, partial liberalization has occurred. As liberalization progresses, structural and governance challenges exist that may moderate benefits. Further research is needed in many areas, given that the liberalization of marijuana laws is a recent phenomenon. More research is needed in areas, such as in-depth economic and social impacts analysis; the profile, composition, and expenditure patterns of marijuana tourists; the comparative advantages of different regulatory frameworks; and the public health and safety impacts for residents, marijuana tourists, and hospitality sector workers.

The Role of International Organizations in the Development of African States

Jensen, Amy 01 January 2007 (has links)
Many African states are currently struggling to acquire social and economic development. Unfortunately, there are a number of factors that are challenging that success. Among them are disease, public policy, and governance. However, international organizations are in place with the goal of meeting these challenges and helping to prompt development. One of the most visible and well known of those organizations is the United Nations. The focus of this study was the impact of three United Nations programs operating in African states. The first was a National Volunteer program operating in Ethiopia under the United Nations Development Program. Next was a Women Entrepreneur Training program in Tanzania guided by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. Finally, there was a Refugee Livelihood program focusing on micro-credit under the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. The research shows the varying success of each program and the impact they are having on their countries of operation. Each program accomplished many, if not all, of its goals and it is reported that they are having a positive impact on the country as a whole. This thesis displays the various ways in which these programs can prompt the development of African states, and implies that future programs will continue to increase African development.

Wallischová, Zuzana January 2020 (has links)
My diploma thesis deals with the Clinical trial in the Czech Republic in the period from 1989 to present and on its impact on management in organizations dealing with clinical trials. The aim of this thesis is to identify key changes that occurred in the clinical trial and to identify how these changes infuenced the management of clinital trial organizations. This will be done based on the qualitative research. The theoretical part provides information about the history of the clinical trial, about internation and the Czech legislation, including ethical principles, the submission process including description of institution that are reviewing the clinical research. The theory also explains the issue of management, its organizational developments and its expected development in the future. In the research part I described the chosen research method, which extend from the semi- structured interview after the pilot part to the use of the focus group method - in the combination with semi-structured interview. Based on these interviews and focus group have been evaluated 7 parts to describe the evolution of the clinical trial and its impact on the management of clinical trials, including one topic that addresses the expected development of this field in the future. Key words: clinical trial, clinical...
