This article aims to explain and justify the use of Feynmann diagrams as a computational tool in physics. The integrals discussed may be seen as a toybox version of the real physical case. It starts out with the basic one-dimensional Gaussian integral and then proceeds with examples of multidimensional cases. Correlators and their solutions through generating functions and Wick's theorem are shown, as well as some examples of how to relate the computations to diagrams and the corresponding rules for these diagrams.

Modeling software with object-oriented technique and Unified Modeling Language (UML) has become the new paradigm of modern information systems analysis and design. Selonen et al. (2003) proposed a framework for transformation within UML. However, they do not precisely define the operations and the rules they use. This research presents a systematic method which enhances Selonen et al.¡¦s work to transform the sequence diagram into the class diagram. The transformation process consists of three phases: (1) mapping the given sequence diagram to a notation-independent and semantically equivalent minimal model, (2) transforming the minimal model of the sequence diagram into the minimal model of a class diagram, and (3) mapping the minimal model to a class diagram. A real-world case is used to illustrate the concepts, application, and the advantages of using the proposed method. With this approach, the system developer can transform sequence diagram into class diagram automatically and thereby enhance the efficiency of system development.

Today, modeling the software with unified modeling language (UML) and computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tool becomes the main stream for the objected-oriented systems analysis and design. To enhance the degree of ransformation automation and reuse in the system development process, prior research suggested that most parts of the class diagram can be transformed from the sequence diagram directly. However, the explicit guideline for the transformation is lacking. This study presents a methodology, extended from Selonen et al (2003), to transform the sequence diagram into the class diagram. A real-world case using the integrated techniques is presented to illustrate the concepts, application, and the advantages of using the proposed approach. With this approach, the system developer can transform most parts of the sequence diagram into its associated class diagram automatically and thereby enhance the efficiency of system development.

Structural and electronic properties of barium lanthanum vanadatesSkellern, Matthew G. January 2003 (has links)
A study of the subsolidus region of the BaO-La2O3-V 2O5 phase diagram has been carried out. Four ternary phases can be prepared, one of which has not been previously identified. The four ternary phases are a palmierite solid solution Ba3-3xLa2x V2O8, Ba2LaV3O11, BaLa10V4O26 (new phase) and Ba3La 40V12O93. Addition of BaLa10V 4O26 and the previously omitted phase La1.42V 0.58)3.58 to the ternary system has resulted n a re-determination of the complete phase diagram. A comprehensive study of the Ba3-3xLa 2xV2O8 solid solution has been carried out, employing a number of techniques including x-ray diffraction, infra-red spectroscopy, thermogravemetric analysis, impedance spectroscopy, electron paramagenetic resonance spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy and x-ray absorption near edge structure spectroscopy. Conductivity measurements show the end-member Ba3V2O8 to be an oxide ion conductor, with the conduction mechanism being facilitated by the ease of transformation of the BaO3 layers to BaO2 and vice versa. The La-doped members show an increase in conductivity, with electrons becoming the dominant conducting species. The crystal structure of Ba2LaV 3O11 was confirmed to be isostructural with Ba2BiV 3O11. A full refinement of the structural parameters has been performed. The unit cell is primitive monoclinic, a = 12.44510(3)A, b = 7.78854(12)A, c = 11.26245(21)A and beta = 103.134(4)°, space group P21/c. Preliminary structural studies have begun on the new phase BaLa10V4O26. The x-ray powder pattern has been fully indexed and a possible monoclinic unit cell of a = 20.2939A, b = 5.886A, c = 12.6234A and beta = 118.05° is proposed. The serendipitous synthesis of a barium-deficient celsian phase, Ba0.8A11.6 Si2.4O8, is reported; the structure was solved using Patterson methods. The phase has a monoclinic unit cell with, a = 8.6090(8)A, b = 13.0858(12)A, c = 7.2047(7)A and beta = 115.418(2)°, space group C2/m.

Abstract
In this project, we searched for new constructions and symmetric presentations of important groups, nonabelian simple groups, their automorphism groups, or groups that have these as their factor groups. My target nonabelian simple groups included sporadic groups, linear groups, and alternating groups. In addition, we discovered finite groups as homomorphic images of progenitors and proved some of their isomorphism type and original symmetric presentations. In this thesis we found original symmeric presentations of M12, J1 and the simplectic groups S(4,4) and S(3,4) on various con- trol groups. Using the technique of double coset enumeration we constucted J2 as a homomorphic image of the permutation progenitor 2∗10 : (10 × 2). From our mono- mial progenitor 11∗4 : (2 : 4) we found a homomorphic image of M11. In the following chapters we will discuss how we went about obtaining homomorphic images, some con- structions of the Cayley Diagrams, and how we solved some extension problems.

Finally, some examples are presented in detail. The work provides readers with a range of possible strategies for solving tasks, including graphical methods. 1
