Finally the relationship will be tested between job satisfaction and turnover intention. A four section questionnaire will be used to identify the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that have an influence on job satisfaction. The questionnaire will also test the employees intent to leave the organization. Random selected employees from all levels in the organization participated in this study. In this study gender, marital status and employment duration had a significant impact on job satisfaction.

Organisational barriers to continuous improvement at a manufacturing plant

M. Tech. Business Administration / This quantitative project investigated the organisational barriers to continuous improvement (CI) at a manufacturing plant. The objectives of the study were to determine the human factors that affect CI, to discuss how these factors affect CI, and to recommend how human factors can be used to promote CI in manufacturing plants. This is an investigation into quality improvement theory and models and the Toyota Culturey in a zmanufacturingy organisation. The study organisation is a well know International Corporation with presence in 175 countries worldwide, of which the manufacturing plant in South Africa was selected. At the time of conducting this research, the plant had 20 employees and all of them were recruited to participate in the survey. The organisational barriers to CI that had been unfolded are the employees, education and training, management systems, and strategic vision.

The application of budgeting process in public secondary schools in Gauteng South Region

A budget is an action plan that is utilized by organisations, private or public, in order to attain their objectives. Budgets are used to ensure better financial performance for organizations. They are also used to identify financial problems and take appropriate corrective measures. Public secondary schools also prepare their budgets to plan for their income and expenditure. It is through developing their budgets that public secondary schools are able to achieve their visions and missions. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the extent to which the budgeting process is effectively implemented in public secondary schools in the Gauteng South Region. To achieve this objective a questionnaire was developed to elicit responses from the participants in the research. The questionnaire was a closed-ended one with two sections, A and B. Section A of the questionnaire was developed to gather biographical information about the units of analysis, whereas Section B dealt with key issues pertaining to the budgeting process. The reliability of the questionnaire was tested through Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. The feedback from the questionnaire was analysed by means of Exploratory Factor Analysis where five factors were extracted and their reliability also tested. The factor loading matrix was computed to identify appropriate items for each factor. The items were analysed using frequencies in respect of each factor. Correlations analysis for the factors was conducted to determine the relationship between them. The findings from the study indicate that: budget planning assists school managers in comparing income and expenditure; coordination of budgeting activities is a problem at schools; lack of communication stifles effective implementation of the budget; there is no effective training and development for those involved in the budgeting process; the financial targets are not set and communicated to key stakeholders; there is lack of budget control and monitoring measures of variances of the planned and actual budget is non-existent; educators are not offered the opportunity to participate in the budgeting process let alone have the authority to make decisions on budgetary issues for those who are involved. The value of this research lies in setting appropriate guidelines for effective implementation of the budgeting process. Effective implementation of the budgeting process will facilitate efficient delivery of quality education to learners. The importance of the study is that it offers various types of budgets that public secondary schools can use to remain financially viable and sustainable.

Virtual reality platform modelling and design for versatile electric wheelchair simulation in an enabled environment.

This simulated world is then required to be closely related to real world spaces that will be encountered by a disabled person using a wheelchair as a mobility aid. The wheelchair to be accommodated in the simulation environment may have multiple mechanical construct possibilities. The wheelchair used on the simulation platform needs to be driven by a combination of two wheels, as is generally found on manual and electric wheelchairs. The final objective was to design the simulation as closely as possible to the real world in order to use the VS-1 motion platform for architectural evaluations, possible training and general research in the field of simulators used in an enabled environment.

Electrical Engineering. / Discusses the operations and planning of power systems is a complex task, mostly with many intricate manoeuvres to ensure reliable network operations such that the active power losses are reduced and the network voltage proles are improved without compromising the network security. Then the question is, what is the role of the inherent structural characteristics in solving power system problems? Although, the inherent structural characteristics of a power system network are embedded within the load flow formulation to some extent, their full capabilities in solving the problems of the network have not been holistically investigated. The fundamental circuit theory law (Ohm's law), which is a linear equation, clearly demonstrates the importance of the structural topology of the network. However, this importance is confounded by the reformulation of the fundamental law to nonlinear load flow equations. This research investigated the role of the inherent structural characteristics in solving power system problems from a circuit theory perspective.

Integration of small hydro distributed generation into distribution networks : a pumped hydro-storage topology.

Electrical Engineering. / Discusses the objective of this study is to develop an embedded generator-pump set topology using a wound rotor induction machine using the doubly fed induction generator concept, and a synchronous machine electrically and mechanically coupled to it, powering its magnetisation circuit. An adjustable pitch pump is also coupled to the generating set on the same shaft to provide an embedded generating-pumping solution that can provide co-incident generating ans pumping functions. The research objectives are as follows: to develop an overall plant topology, to identify plant attributes necessary for proper functionality of the proposed plant, to identify a pumping/generation topology that meets the required electro-mechanical and overall topological layout attribute requirements, to develop a primitive mathematical model of the plant that provides insight into fundamental physical behaviour of the plant, to investigate the stability issues arising from the electromechanical coupling of the two machines used, to establish controllability of the proposed configuration, to identify influencing factors on the stable operation of the proposed plant, to develop an overall system model for simulation. This also entails developing a suitable mathematical model for the variable pitch pump and to simulate the system steady state and dynamic behaviour.

Electrical Engineering. / Discusses the question of how to prolong the life of an entire sensor network by reducing the power consumption is the most important issue in wireless sensor networks. Traditional routing schemes have not fulfilled the expectations of an optimised WSN, and as a result, new algorithms are being designed globally. One of these protocols which serve as a basis for this study is the RCRR. In this project, we present a new approach of the Relative Coordinates Rumor Routing algorithm based on a link quality awareness scheme and a modified version of the protocol with better scaling.The benefits of this study are: Proposal of a tuneable algorithm that will not only consume less power compared to the classic RR but also addresses the scalability problem encountered with the original RCRR. Proposal a better trade-off between throughput and average end-to-end delay with the use of the SMAC (compared with Rumor protocol). Avoidance of long delays in queues and saving power on retransmission of packets. Reduction of the wandering of agents during communication. Prolonging the lifetime of the network and thus offering economic, operational, and environmental benefits. Balancing link quality awareness with a topological localisation scheme to achieve better throughput.

Carry out the installation and experimental analysis of a water to water CO2 heat pump system.2. Evaluate the reliability of the system using statistical means through regression analysis and create relationship models between the input and output parameters of the system.3. Execute a thermodynamic analysis of the selected system and evaluate the most important factors that affect its energy efficiency, then identify and evaluate possible system improvements and optimum operating conditions. 4. Compare available heat pump related kinematic and mathematical models and evaluate the best model to describe the operations in the system under local operating conditions.
