Effects of photo-selective nets on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plant growth and fruit quality at harvest.

Tinyane, PhushudI Peter. January 2013 (has links)
M. Tech. Agriculture. / Investigates the effect of photo-selective nets on plant growth parameters (plant height, leaf area, leaf chlorophyll, stem diameter, flowering intensity, and fruit settings), pest and disease incidence, and yield (number of fruits per plant) in three selected cultivars.Secondly, to investigate the effect of shading on fruit quality parameters (fruit mass, firmness, colour, soluble solids content, and titratable acidity) and health promoting compounds (ascorbic acid, lycopene content, β-carotene, total phenols and flavonoids, and antioxidant scavenging activity) in three selected tomato cultivars.

Evolution of macro texture in asphalt pavement wearing course at an early age

Tshephe, Otto Raikane. January 2013 (has links)
M. Tech. Civil Engineering. / Aims to assess the influence of the type of binder on the evolution of the macro texture in asphalt at an early age. The objective are to : 1. To assess the approach and methodology of French asphalt design method. 2. To establish the contributors to the reduction of skid resistance of asphalt. 3. Identify effective methods and develop guidelines for improving the surface drainage of asphalt with the use of tests from the laboratory. Asphaltic materials and factors under investigation include: pervious asphalt, continuously grade asphalt and various asphalt surface characteristics and correlation with the Tri-dim laser.

Emotional intelligence and overall efficiency in engineering project management.

Gumede, Ayanda Nomkhosi. January 2013 (has links)
M. Tech. Business Administration / This paper aims to determine the role and influence of emotional intelligence on overall efficiency in engineering project management. It also focuses on establishing whether emotional intelligence, when applied, does enhance project success and how project managers handle their emotions and relationships with stakeholders of projects.

Factors that affect viability in small and medium-sized enterprises in the Vaal Triangle region of Gauteng province

Ndege, Maurice. January 2014 (has links)
M. Tech. Business Administration. / This study was conducted in order to identify and quantify factors that are responsible for the high rate of failure in SMMEs in the Vaal Triangle region. The study was based on a stratified random sample of size n=133. Stratified random sampling was used for collecting data by using a structured, pre-tested and validated questionnaire of study. Five strata were used (central, east, west, north and west) for conducting the study in the Vaal Triangle. A combination of quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analyses were used in the study. The variables used for quantitative analysis were socioeconomic variables that were associated with the viability of SMMEs operating in the Vaal Triangle region of Gauteng Province.

Career in languages and employability in contemporary South Africa : a survey from Pretoria

Pule, Violet Maphefo Sefularo. January 2014 (has links)
M. Tech. Applied Languages / This study is about awareness of language careers in contemporary South African society, given its multilingual ecology, and post-1994 official language policy, with particular reference to Black South African languages. The study attempts to come to its conclusions, based on a survey of societal language attitudes, current university offerings on such languages, the possible impact of technology on the language professions, and government efforts to promote careers in African languages.

A study on a novel "3 & 6" induction machine.

Venter, Pierre-Jac. January 2014 (has links)
M. Tech. Electrical Engineering. / Studies the symmetrical six phase induction machine structure, to determine different devices this machine can adapt to and to model these devices mathematically. Laboratory experiments are to be conducted and used to verify theoretical findings. The research objectives are:to determine what devices the symmetrical structure can adapt to ; to develop a mathematical model of the machine operating as different devices and to determine the equivalent circuit of the specific mode of operation ; to investigate both steady state and dynamic behaviour of the machine operating as different devices using Matlab / Simulink simulation software package ; to use a laboratory prototype of the "3 & 6" machine to validate theoretical findings.

The influence of anaerobic and aerobic fitness on the technical skill ability of national elite male under-18 African soccer players.

Strauss, Anita. January 2011 (has links)
M. Tech. Clinical Technology. / Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Elite level soccer players cover about 10 km during a 90-minute game. Although running is the predominant activity in soccer, explosive movements such as sprinting, jumping and kicking are important for successful performance. The aims of this study were to determine the technical skill ability, aerobic and anaerobic fitness of the players; determine whether a relationship exists between the technical skill ability and aerobic and anaerobic fitness; and determine whether a relationship exists between team ranking order and these variables.

The theory of planned behaviour as a predictor of usage of an interprovincial passenger rail service : the Platinum Rail Project.

Nesamvuni, Alufheli Edgar, 1968- January 2012 (has links)
M.Tech. Business Administration. Business School. / Investigates and assess potential transport users perceptions of the attributes of this possible rail service with a view to determine the most important attributes that would influence their adoption or rejection of such a service by transport users residing in North West and Gauteng.

Improved particle swarm optimisation algorithms.

Sun, Yanxia. January 2011 (has links)
D. Tech. Electrical Engineering. / Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) is based on a metaphor of social interaction such as birds flocking or fish schooling to search a space by adjusting the trajectories of individual vectors, called "particles" conceptualized as moving points in a multidimensional space. This thesis presents several algorithms/techniques to improve the PSO's global search ability. Simulation and analytical results confirm the efficiency of the proposed algorithms/techniques when compared to the other state of the art algorithms.
