Automation of design and drafting for wood frame structures and construction material waste minimizationManrique Mogollon, Juan David 11 1900 (has links)
With the creation and continuous enhancement of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, innovations in the area of computer modeling for the construction industry have brought numerous benefits in terms of precision, operability, extensibility, and time-cost savings, among others. Nevertheless, the construction industry is one which continually demands innovation and efficiency in design, leading to the introduction of newer modeling approaches to satisfy client needs. The central thinking behind this research, then, has to do with the automation and generation of construction drawings for the home building industry based on 3D and parametric modeling techniques, and the utilization of the best practice for the platform-frame method. Homebuilders in Canada often build without construction drawings due to the high cost and extensive time expenditure associated with their production; instead, the industry relies on trades personnel to build from architectural model designs. This poor practice contributes to the accumulation of material waste and other construction quality issues. The underlying basis for this research is the notion of adding structure to information, both by incorporating intelligence into a set of operational commands and by adding innovation to the construction process. These topics have been incorporated into a 3D CAD solid model to demonstrate the importance of communicating information from consultants to trades and contractors. 3D and parametric modeling provide the foundation for this complex analysis, which focuses on the generation of panelized and site-built dwellings. The minimization of construction wood materials through the use of mathematical models and a search for best combinations of nominal lumber, sheathing and drywall has been added to this research as an aim to become more efficient. Mathematical optimization models are used to verify the concept for efficient cutting layouts for one- and two-dimensional elements.
This research sets out to demonstrate, by underscoring the present shortcomings, the manner in which 3D and parametric modeling will provide a solution for practitioners and researchers who wish to reduce drafting time and material waste production; to incorporate intelligence to CAD models; and to provide a better use of primary resources by generating guidelines for construction practice. / Construction Engineering and Management

Islamic Legislative Drafting Methodology for Women's Equality Rights in Palestine: Using Codification to Replace the Wife's Obedience Obligation by Full Equality in the Family LawAbdel Hadi, Fouz 28 October 2009 (has links)
The Islamic legislative drafting methodology is meant to bring the family law of Islamic countries into line with current conceptions of gender equality found not only in the West but in Islamic law (the shari’a) as well. The methodology involves identifying the fundamental principles of shari’a and recognizing that they must be adapted to the socio-economic conditions in which they are to be applied.

Den socialpolitiska diskussion som lade grunden för narkotikastrafflagen 1968Porsblad Käll, Emma January 2008 (has links)
The problem with narcotics is one of Sweden’s biggest social problems. Statistics shows that the number of narcotic related deaths and the numbers of heavy drug users are increasing. The present narcotic policy has been questioned due to this increase. As a social worker you meet drug users on a daily basis. A possible review of the current law requires that the social workers are well knowledgeable in order to take part in the debate. To be able to discuss new political directions you need to have knowledge about the history. The purpose with this dissertation is to understand the Swedish social political ideas that resulted in the 1968’s narcotic penalty law. This dissertation has a social constructive perspective and in the analysis has the labeling theiry been applied. As a method a document analysis has been used. The material has mainly been Parliamentary protocols and SOU-investigations. An analysis of the contents was made when the material was read. The younger drug users, the increasing consumption, the drug users groups and the illegal drug traffic was main factors that influenced the social political thought and ideas that lead to the 1968’s narcotic penalty law. An Investigation Of A Complementary Feedback Model For L2 Writing: Peer And Teacher Feedback Versus Teacher FeedbackTokdemir Demirel, Elif 01 March 2009 (has links) (PDF)
This study aimed at developing a complementary peer-teacher feedback model, in which students and teachers share the responsibility of providing feedback in a systematic way and testing its effectiveness. The effectiveness of the developed feedback model on improving students& / #8217 / writing ability was tested in the context of a multiple draft writing course which followed a process approach with 57 preparatory class students at Karadeniz Technical University, Department of English Language and Literature for a period of 15 weeks (a semester). The study was designed as an experimental study in which the experimental group students were provided feedback through a complementary peer-teacher feedback model and the control group students were provided feedback through full teacher feedback. The two groups were compared in terms of their revisions, their essay scores and their attitudes towards feedback and writing. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected through revision coding, a pretest and posttest on writing ability, two questionnaires and student reflections. The results revealed that although the traditional full teacher feedback model created more revisions on the whole, the two models did not create a difference in terms of revision quality or writing improvement between the two groups. On the other hand, the complementary peer-feedback model was found more successful in creating positive attitudes towards peer feedback and self-correction but no differences were observed in students& / #8217 / perceptions of the difficulty of writing skill. Some recommendations are made for the design and implementation of feedback activities in writing classes.

A guideline for local authorities : legal and functional requirements for the drafting and implementation of waste management by-laws / N.S. MassynMassyn, Nicolai Spies January 2005 (has links)
By-laws are considered to be one of the primary tools of local
government to enable them to manage and regulate the affairs of their
constituent jurisdictions. It is therefore of critical importance that bylaws
are current, not in conflict with provincial and national legislation,
efficient and in line with practical requirements, and empowers the
local authority sufficiently to manage its own affairs.
There are three major causes that require local authorities to change
and update by-laws. The first major cause is the reorganisation of the
pre-1994 municipal boundaries. The second is the change to a
constitutional dispensation that created three distinct spheres of
government with their defined areas of legislative and executive
powers. The third is the new order environmental legislation and
philosophy that is in line with internationally accepted principles of
sustainable development and human rights, and differs from the pre-
1994 legislation.
The principle of cooperative governance requires local authorities not
to be in conflict with other organs of state or national and provincial
legislation.
The result is that many local authorities require new by-laws, including
waste management by-laws.
Many such projects were undertaken by local authorities, one by the
City of Johannesburg as part of the iGoli 2000 project.
The by-laws also have to adequately capacitate the local authority to
regulate all aspects of waste management in a practical and functional
manner. These practical and functional requirements must be
considered and included in the waste management by-laws where
relevant.
A guideline should as a minimum cover the following elements:
-ensuring cooperative governance,
-ensuring compliance with specific requirements set by the
Constitution and other legislation such as the Municipal Systems
Act,
-alignment of by-laws with the legal mechanisms available for
service delivery, and
-ensuring it provides guidance on what elements should be
considered to meet the practical and functional requirements of
local authorities.
This dissertation provides a guideline that meets criteria set out in
legislation, policies and strategies. The discussion encompasses a vast
field of the law and waste management practice, and attempts to
provide local authorities with an introduction and references to the
most salient aspects that has to be considered when drafting and
implementing waste management by-laws. / Thesis (M. Environmental Management)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2006.
