The Chopin Etudes: a Study Guide for Teaching and Learning Opus 10 and Opus 25

Kim, Min Joung 12 1900 (has links)
The etudes of Chopin are masterworks of the piano literature and are designed to go beyond mere technical exercises; moreover, each etude represents not only a technical study but also has a distinct musical character. Alarmingly, the current trend seems to be to assign the Chopin etudes at an increasingly young age to students who are not yet equipped either technically or musically to handle them. As Chopin’s pupil, Carl Mikuli, commented in the preface to his Chopin edition, the etudes were meant for “more advanced students.” If Chopin had intended his etudes for students at an intermediate level, he would have assigned them to most of his students; however, only a limited number of students had his permission to work on their master’s etudes. As a teacher, I have always felt the need to devise a systematic teaching plan to guide students to handle the challenges of these pieces both physically and musically. This study examines the repertoire which might help prepare a student to learn the etudes without overstraining his/her muscular and mental ability. Rooted in Chopin’s teaching and his recommendation of the pieces to learn before tackling the etudes themselves, this pedagogical study guide intends to help students and teachers to work progressively towards the study of these works. While pinpointing some exercises and simple pieces to assign to a student in preparation for studying the individual etudes, helpful works of later composers are also liberally incorporated, as well as some suggestions for practicing the etudes themselves. Finally, I shall provide my own “re-ordering” of the etudes, with a progressive degree of difficulty, as an additional aid to a young pianist who may eventually want to learn the entire opus 10 and opus 25.

Preoperative counseling for the laryngectomee : a clinician's guide

Adams, Megan Rhodes 12 November 2010 (has links)
Research shows that an important component to successful adjustment and improved quality of life following a laryngectomy is comprehensive preoperative counseling. However, evidence indicates that preoperative counseling in its current form is inadequate. Additionally, due to a small percentage of speech language pathologists having clinical experience working with this population, SLPs may be unsure of what to include in counseling sessions if presented with a laryngectomee. This report serves as a guide to assist SLPs in preoperative counseling sessions. It contains information regarding laryngeal cancer, treatment options, alaryngeal speech options, and additional postoperative considerations to include in preoperative counseling. Illustrations and tables are included within the report so that the practicing clinician has access to user-friendly information to provide to his or her patients. By spending extra time consulting with the patient and his or her family during the preoperative sessions, the SLP can make a vast difference in the patient’s overall quality of life after surgery. / text

Field theory analysis of rectangular and circular waveguide discontinuities for filters, multiplexers and matching networks

Varailhon de la Filolie, Benoît 04 July 2018 (has links)
Progress in integrating microwave circuits depends largely on the development of computationally effective and accurate numerical methods. These methods allow a miniaturization of microwave components and their utilization at higher frequency. In this thesis, the application of the mode matching method is described as well as their modification to different kinds of structure in rectangular and circular waveguides. The task is to design and optimize filters, multiplexers and impedance matching networks. In its most general form, the mode matching method at waveguide discontinuities requires the matching of four field components. However, to improve computational efficiency, the effect of matching only two field components (versus four field components) is investigated and successfully exploited for selected discontinuities. To satisfy space requirements, low loss, compact, and lightweight diplexer, triplexer and quadriplexer structures in rectangular waveguide technology are designed and optimized. The analysis is made possible by decomposing the structure into simple discontinuity sections such as discontinuity in width, height or bi- and tri-furcations. Three different types of discontinuities in coaxial waveguide are investigated: the outer step, the inner step and the gap discontinuities. By cascading such discontinuities, filters or matching networks can be obtained. Finally, a new type of circular waveguide bandpass filter using printed metal inserts is developed and designed in Ka-band. A comparison between theoretical results and measurements shows excellent agreement. / Graduate

Hitta in : Rundvandring i Sundsvalls Stenstad

Nilsson, Jonas January 2016 (has links)

Entrepreneurship and international trade

Thomson, Carol A. 07 September 2011

Exporting can be viable solution for struggling entrepreneurial firms. However the different procedures and regulations that need to be addressed prior to export may be enough to discourage firms from engaging in exporting. This thesis examines the aforementioned obstacles and provides a checklist in order to facilitate the process of exporting the product into a foreign market.

This thesis then goes on to test the viability of the checklist using two separate case studies. Results from the case studies indicate that the checklist can aid entrepreneurial firms by reducing the possibility of oversights and eliminate additional costs that are associated with these oversights.

Senez, Marie-Josée January 2009 (has links) (PDF)
