The analysis was made based on a Distance Education course (DE) and to do so it was presented a history of the development of this kind of course in the world and in Brazil, approaching correspondence courses, satellite courses with the use of televisions and finally reaching the age of online interaction activities with the use of the Internet. From this analysis it was observed, more specifically, a course of technology in the distance education mode of a Public Educational Institution pointing out the possible causes of that school evasion. In addition, it was made a reflection concerning the importance of using the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), the use of interaction tools between teacher and student and also the constant need to update and study, something that all of those who are involved in this teaching process will have to face, since this is the only way it will be possible to surf the virtual education in a compromised, pleasant and lasting form. / Este trabalho apresenta uma revisão bibliográfica sobre a evasão, um problema recorrente que tem atingido tanto as instituições de educação pública quanto as privadas. A análise foi feita na modalidade de ensino de Educação a Distância (EaD) e, para tanto, foi apresentado um histórico da evolução da EaD no mundo e no Brasil, abordando desde os cursos por correspondência, passando, também, pelos cursos via satélite com o uso das televisões, chegando, por fim, na era das atividades de interação online com a utilização da Internet. A partir dessa análise foi observado, de uma forma mais específica, um curso de tecnologia na modalidade EaD de uma Instituição Pública de Ensino apontando as possíveis causas da evasão daquele ambiente escolar. Ademais, foi feita uma reflexão sobre a importância da utilização do Ambiente Virtual de Aprendizagem (AVA), sobre o uso de ferramentas de interação entre professor e estudante e, ainda, sobre a constante necessidade de atualização e de estudo que terão pela frente todos os envolvidos neste processo de ensino, já que somente dessa forma será possível navegar na educação virtual de forma comprometida, prazerosa e duradoura.
