Esta dissertação de mestrado tem como objetivo investigar aspectos específicos da estruturação de produtos educacionais para a capacitação empreendedora de alunos por meio da verificação de como e por que os produtos investigados foram estruturados. Apresenta, como metodologia, o estudo de múltiplos casos, de caráter exploratório e abordagem qualitativa. Como fundamentação teórica apresenta um levantamento dos conceitos sobre o empreendedorismo, o empreendedor e a capacitação para empreender. A coleta de evidências decorre da investigação de três casos selecionados: Pedagogia Empreendedora; Jovens Empreendedores Primeiros Passos e O Empreendedorismo na Escola. A pesquisa apresenta, como resultado, a identificação dos elementos que compõem a estrutura dos produtos educacionais estudados e a análise comparativa entre esses elementos. Por fim, a análise da estruturação dos produtos educacionais se apresenta como forma de compreensão dos mecanismos utilizados para a capacitação empreendedora. / The objective of this project is to investigate specific aspects of educational products elaboration for the entrepreneur qualification of students by the verification of how and why the investigated products have been structuralized. The method is the study of multiple cases, of exploratory and qualitative character. The theoretical base presents a survey of the concepts on the entrepreneurship, the entrepreneur and the entrepreneur qualification. The evidences came from three selected cases: Pedagogia Empreendedora; Jovens Empreendedores Primeiros Passos and O Empreendedorismo na Escola. The research resulted in the identification of the elements that compose the structure of the educational products and the comparative analysis between these elements. Finally, the analysis of the educational products elaboration allows to understand the mechanisms used for the entrepreneur qualification.

Silent partnership - rights and obligations of the contracting parties ABSTRACT This thesis deals with a silent partnership while focusing on the rights and obligations of the contracting parties. It is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, the author at first presents the general characteristics of the silent partnership agreement, including a brief historical excursion. Great scope is given to comparing a silent partnership and a partnership. The conclusion that a silent partnership is a special kind (lex specialis) of partnership is reflected in the following chapters. Next two chapters describe the mutual rights and obligations of the contracting parties; the second chapter deals with the rights and obligations of the silent partner and the third chapter deals with the rights and obligations of the entrepreneur. These are the most significant chapters of the thesis, in which the individual rights and obligations of the contracting parties are analysed while the author identifies some problematic aspects that can lead to interpretative and application difficulties and then offers possible solutions. A Resource-Based Perspective on Financial Resource Strategies for Small Business Sustainability

Each year entrepreneurs start many new businesses, and some of these businesses will fail within the first 2 years. In addition, many owners will cite lack of adequate financial resources as a contributory factor to the failure. The purpose of this multiple case study was to identify the strategies that some small business owners used to obtain financial resources needed to operate a financially sustainable business. The population consisted of machine shops in South Central Kansas. A resource-based view theory served as the conceptual framework that grounded the study. The data collection process consisted of 9 interview questions. The data analysis process entailed using coding techniques to identify keywords, phrases, and concepts. Member checking ensured the credibility and trustworthiness of the data interpretation and analysis. The process led to the following 4 themes: (a) the role of access to financial resources in business success, (b) strategies used when external funding is not available or desirable, (c) strategies used to obtain external financing, and (d) challenges faced in obtaining external financing. The implications for positive social change include the potential to provide new insights to support existing and prospective entrepreneurs in their efforts to obtain financial resources needed to operate a financially sustainable business. The findings from the study may contribute to the prosperity and benefit of the owners, their employees, the local community, and the U.S. economy.

Entrepreneurs' Percieved Factors of Success and Barriers-to-Entry for Small Business and Farm Operations in Rural Paraguay

Agriculture and commerce activities make up a significant part of Paraguay’s economy. The success of these sectors is important for Paraguay’s continued development in rural areas where agriculture activities are most prevalent and nonagriculture activities are increasing in demand. Current literature indicates many factors that contribute to success in both business and farming operations; however, little information is available regarding the perception of young entrepreneurs and farmers. Paraguay’s young population will need more employment opportunities, many of which may come from new start-up operations. The purpose of this study was to identify attributes and perceptions that affect perceived barriers to business and farming operations in rural areas of Paraguay. This study examined young would-be entrepreneurs and agricultural producers participating in entrepreneurial courses and agribusiness leadership workshops, respectively. Two surveys (small-business and small-farm) were administered to the respective groups. Respondents were asked to share their perceptions of common business factors that might or might not contribute to small-enterprise success, along with demographic and characteristic questions. Results of mean test-statistic comparison show that some significant differences exist between the two groups. Some of the most notable differences were larger average family size in the small-farm group, more female participation in the small-business group, a greater average of secondary and postsecondary education in the small-business group, and more respondents reporting more past-experience in the small-farm group. Combining both survey observations and analyzing them with ordered logit models, results suggest that education, training, and past-experience hold a negative correlation with perceived barriers-to-entry to business and farm operations. As education and experience increase, perceptions of barrier factors decrease. This analysis also finds that people who are employed in the private sector are more likely to perceive capital as a barrier-to-entry; whereas land and access to property is more likely to be viewed as a larger hurdle in the agriculture sector. Educating, training and providing experience to young would-be entrepreneurs and farm operators will improve perceptions of business entry. Future research might include perceptions of current government and nonprofit organization programs and initiatives, to better analyze the effectiveness of such rural development efforts.

Enterprises Internationalize with Firm-specific Advantages : Case Study of Swedish Firms

<p>Business has changed and developed fast and drastically through internationalization, which has drawn many scholars’ attentions. The dissertation will focus on the firm-specific advantages (FSAs) which allow firms to go to the international markets.</p><p>The theoretical framework of this dissertation contains four proxies of the firm’s specific advantages, including entrepreneur, market knowledge, network, and technology. In this dissertation, this framework will guide us to collect and analyze the empirical data.</p><p>The qualitative research strategy is employed in this dissertation. Utilizing the multiple case study, we choose two sample companies, both from Halmstad. The empirical data was gathered through semi-structured personal interviews. Data was also supplemented with secondary data, such as web pages and scientific articles.</p><p>The finding of this dissertation is that market knowledge and experience is a crucial, firm-specific advantage, which facilitates firm’s international expansion. In addition, the entrepreneur and network variables also have an impact on the internationalization process in direct or indirect ways. However, the study does not find obvious evidence that technology does help firms go to the foreign markets a lot.</p>

Social Entrepreneurship : A Case Study of SIFE Umeå University

<p>Today the world faces a lot of societal challenges in the economical, social and environmental spheres that needs to be overcome. Global warming, poverty and increasing economic inequality are only some of these challenges. The public debate has been focused on finding solutions to them and one of these has been addressed as social entrepreneurship. This phenomenon is about the era of the new type of entrepreneurs – social entrepreneurs – that recognize these challenges as opportunities that can be exploited in a both profitable and sustainable manner. Social entrepreneurship has in this way emerged as an interesting phenomenon and a new area in the entrepreneurship research.</p><p> </p><p>This study examines the phenomenon of social entrepreneurship by scrutinizing the concept SIFE - Students In Free Enterprise. SIFE is a non-profit organization that claims to be actively engaged in working with social entrepreneurship. The general purpose of this study is to bring a deeper understanding of the social entrepreneurship phenomenon, by describing the particular purpose, the case of SIFE Umeå University as a social entrepreneurship model. Our study is a qualitative case study using semi-structured interviews. Six respondents have been interviewed from different levels of the organization - SIFE Umeå University - in order to reflect the entire organization. We have used a deductive approach by establishing a theoretical framework that guided the interviews and has been used in the analysis of the empirical data.</p><p> </p><p>The main conclusions in this study show that SIFE Umeå University’s work with social entrepreneurship is mainly about socioeconomic and personal development. Another conclusion is that cooperation with partners from different sectors of the society is an important fundament in their work with social entrepreneurship. Furthermore, SIFE Umeå University can be considered as hybrid of a voluntary organization and social enterprise since it includes similarities of both organizational forms. Moreover, the study shows that entrepreneurial skills play an important role in SIFE Umeå University’s work with social entrepreneurship. Finally, we can from this study draw the conclusion that SIFE Umeå University’s work with social entrepreneurship can be divided in six steps: Target group, Job/life training, Commercial enterprises, Personal development, Socioeconomic development, Partnership Network.</p>

However, it is of interest to note that most people do not follow a business planning process when they are starting up a new venture. This may be due to the fact that they do not have any knowledge in a business planning process at the period of business initiation. Purpose: The aim of this thesis is to give an individual or an organization a clear direction of a business planning process in a new venture development. Method: A qualitative research method with a deductive approach was used to conduct this research. A primary and secondary data was collected from 4 organizations and were used to find out the possible steps of business planning process. Frame of Reference: The theoretical spheres that were utilized in this thesis consisted of business planning process from authors that had a sequential approach to business planning for a new venture development. Conclusion: The authors derived a model for business planning process in a new venture development that can be a recommendation to individuals or organizations starting up a new business because it provides a step by step direction in business planning to stay competitive in the market.
