Economically optimal control charts for two stage sampling

Hall, Kathryn B. 23 January 1990 (has links)
Control charts are designed to monitor population parameters. Selection of a control chart sampling plan involves determination of the frequency of samples, size of each sample, and critical values to determine when the system is sending an out-of-control signal. Since the main use of control charts is in industry, a widely accepted measure of a good sampling plan is one that minimizes the total cost of operating the system per unit time. Methods for selection of control chart sampling plans for economically optimal X charts are well established. These plans focus on single stage sampling at each sampling period. However, some populations naturally call for two stage sampling. Here, the cost of operating a system per unit time is redefined in terms of two stage sampling plans, and computer search techniques are developed to determine the control chart parameters. First the sample sizes and critical values are fixed, and Newton's method is used to determine the optimal time between samples. Then, a Hooke - Jeeves search is used to simultaneously determine the optimal critical value, sample sizes and time between samples. Adjustment to the latter is required whenever any of the other three parameters change. Alternative methods are also discussed. Information from a single sample is usually used to control shifts in both the process mean and variance. With two stage sampling, this means two additional control charts are used, one for each variance component. The computer algorithm developed for selection of parameters for X charts is adapted by expanding the Hooke Jeeves search region to a six dimensional space, now over three critical values, sample sizes for both stages of sampling, and the time between samples. These methods are applied to a real data set that requires two stage sampling. A representative analysis of the sensitivity of the optimal sampling scheme to the input parameters completes the paper. / Graduation date: 1990

Development of a laboratory manual for the study of network analysis / Laboratory manual for the study of network analysis

Termes, Thomas Bruce 03 June 2011 (has links)
The project is a seven chapter laboratory manual-text covering the topic of D.C. network analysis. It is individualized in nature and it is based on the retrogressive chain. The chapters cover Kirchoff's law, Branch Current Analysis, Mesh Analysis, Nodal Analysis, Thevenin's Theorm, Norton's Theorm, and Superposition Theorm. Each chapter has five sections. They are: (1) a list of behavioral objectives, (2) a presentation of the pertinent information, (3) a number of typical problems with answers, (4) a list of additional resources and, (5) the laboratory procedure.

Flatness transformed and otherness embodied: a study of John Hejduk's Diamond Museum and Wall House 2 across the media of painting, poetry. architectural drawing and architectural space

He, Weiling 04 1900 (has links)
To study architectural space in relation to other works of art, the author aims at understanding how meaning depends upon the medium within which it is formulated. More importantly, the process of re-stating a work from one medium to another requires analytically rigorous study at the level of design thinking. In this thesis, Piet Mondrian’s sixteen Diamond Compositions, George Braque’s Studio Series, and Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres’s Comptesse d'Haussonville will be studied as points of departure of John Hejduk¡’s two sets of architectural projects: the Diamond Series and the Wall House Series. Compositional similarities among these works will be discovered as the design means of Hejduk’s architecture. Moreover, these paintings suggest two design ends: C flatness and otherness. Hejduk’s poems about paintings and his architectural drawings will be examined as working media in which the two design ends are formulated. On this basis, the Diamond Series and the Wall House Series will be analyzed once again on the basis of how flatness and otherness are constructed in architectural space. In a way, Hejduk defines his own design means in the medium of architecture. It is noted that the re-statement of meaning in the medium of architecture involves both a retrospective understanding of the spatial structure and an embodied experience of the immediate spatial condition. Only when space makes sense independent of the references back to existing works in other media such as painting or poetry and the key design move is made will the readings of such works become architectural concepts. In the media of painting, poetry, architectural drawing, and architectural space, John Hejduk designs intention in its own right as part of the design process. Therefore, working across media entails far more than superficial references or fanciful representations. Rather, it is a serious investigation into the construction of medium-specific meaning, which the work of Hejduk clearly exemplifies. For the same reason, Hejduk’s work can be understood beyond personal or mystical expressions, becoming a tangible, logical, and thereby shared construction.

Procurando la donación de órganos : vivencias de enfermería

Paredes Menacho, Cristina Ysabel January 2009 (has links)
The present Investigation "Getting the Donation of Organs: Experiences of Nursing" it is a qualitative study that seeks to explore the experiences of the nurses who work in search of a donor of organs. The idea is detect which are the reasons for which the nurse forms a part of the Unit of PROCURA and which are the experiences that have experimented during his work. And this way to motivate to the search of strategies that allow to improve this action of infirmary, since it is to offer emotional support and education so much to the family of the possible donor, to the personnel of the service; as well as also to the same personnel of health that works in this Unit. The study is begun realizing a historical analysis and theoretical frame is considered to be the requirements that it is necessary to have for the donation of organs at present; what means the Cerebral Death, the care of infirmary towards the donor The method that was in use was a "Vida's History", taking the licentiates of the Unit as key informants of PROCURA and the skill of compilation of information was the not constructed interview. The interviews were recorded; then one proceeded to the transcription of the recording tapes to form the information in texts. Then, one presents the categorization of the interviews around four big topics: sensitization; conviction, rejection and contribution for infirmary: “science of the care".
