Potravní strategie nativních etnik na třech typech tropických ostrovů v oblasti Indonésie a Oceánie: Siberut, Tikopia, Pingelap / Three case studies of resourse management of tropical ethnic groups in area of Indonesia and Oceania: Siberut, Tikopia, Pingelap

Kavánková, Ludmila January 2010 (has links)
This diploma thesis is based on three case studies discussing three native cultures and their ways of using ecosystem resources. The three studied tribes share following characteristics: they live in tropics, they represent Austronesian ethnolinguistic group and their habitat is a specific detached island. Studying the three chosen traditional island communities on Siberut, Tikopia and Pingelap give us detailed information about the local ways of living, traditional agriculture, land tenure, hunting, breeding and local trade. At the same time it helps us to discover differences of the three examples caused by number of socio-environmental factors as well as to characterize three types of interaction between people and their natural environment. Due to study of chosen tribes it was found out that local traditional way of using ecosystem resources not only allows inhabitants to survive but moreover sustains the natural environment. How is the Traditional Canadian Value of Volunteering Surviving?

TROUP, Pavel January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to test and consequently disprove or confirm the hypothesis that with the large influx of immigrants to Canada, volunteerism might not be able to survive in its present form. In the theoretical part of the work focus has been set on term definition and volunteering classification because it is a structured activity with its own rules and policy. History of volunteering has been described in the following chapter. This part goes beyond the history of volunteering in Canada since it is a deeply rooted Anglo-Saxon tradition which had been brought there by the British and French. The last chapter has been dedicated to the current situation of volunteering in Canada including a profile of a volunteer and possible current threats. The practical part has been based on a survey conducted among York University community members and an analysis of their answers. This survey became, together with my visit to the 2011 Toronto Volunteer Fair and an in-depth interview, the main source for the comparison of practice and theory.

It will focus on how the Czech community in Wilber keeps its Czech ethnicity alive as a community of late generation ethnics as well as examine whether or not this ethnicity is sustainable.
