Bakgrund: Varje år upptäcks cirka 250 fall av cancer hos barn i Sverige. När ett barn drabbas av cancer drabbas inte bara barnet, utan hela familjen. Sjuksköterskans roll och sätt att möta barnet och familjen är avgörande för en god vård. Syfte: Att utifrån sjuksköterskans perspektiv beskriva hur det är att möta och vårda barn med cancer och deras familj samt beskriva de ingående artiklarnas datainsamlingsmetod. Metod: En litteraturstudie med deskriptiv design. Studien baseras på 11 vetenskapliga artiklar med en kvalitativ ansats. Artiklarna söktes i databaserna PubMed och Cinahl. Resultat: Kommunikation anses vara den största och viktigaste aspekten kring vården och mötet med barnet och familjen för att kunna bedriva en så god vård som möjligt. Att skapa en god relation till föräldrarna är a och o i sjuksköterskans arbete då det leder till bättre vård för det sjuka barnet. Sjuksköterskorna ger mycket av sig själva emotionellt och är engagerade i hela familjen och därav skapas ett band som bara sjuksköterskan och familjen delar med varandra. Slutsatser: Att sjuksköterskans kompetens, kommunikation och relationen med barnet och familjen är centrala delar i att möta och vårda barn med cancer och deras familj. / Background: Every year about 250 cases of cancer in children are discovered in Sweden. When a child gets cancer it’s not only affecting the child, but the whole family. The nurse’s role and ways of meeting and approaching the child and family is crucial to provide a good care. Aim: The aim of this study was to, from a nurse perspective describe how it is to meet and care for children with cancer and their family and to describe the data collection method of the 11articles. Method: A literature study with descriptive design. The study is based on 11 scientific articles with a qualitative approach. The articles were found in the database PubMed and Cinahl. Results: Communication is considered the largest and the most important aspect about the care and the meeting with the child and family to provide as good care as possible. Creating a good relationship with the parents is everything to the nursing profession as it leads to better care for the sick child. The nurses give a lot of themselves emotionally and are committed to the whole family and there for creates a bond that only the nurseand the family share with each other. Conclusions: The nurse`s competence, communication and the relationship with the child and family are key elements in caring for children with cancer and their family.
