Origine des minéralisations stratiformes de fluorine de la bordure sud-est du bassin de Paris / Origin of stratabound fluorite deposits in the southeastern part of the Paris Basin

Gigoux, Morgane 02 July 2015 (has links)
In France, unconformity-related stratabound fluorite deposits occurred at the base of Mesozoic sedimentary units from the Paris Basin around the Morvan Massif, and reserves are estimated to about 5.5 Mt. This work mainly concerns four fluorite deposits in sandstones at Antully, in limestones at Courcelles-Frémoy and in dolomite at Pierre-Perthuis and Marigny-sur-Yonne. The aim of this study is to constrain the age and origin of mineralizations inferred from a multi-disciplinary approach including geochronoly, petrography, elementary and isotopic geochemistry in order to produce a metallogenic model. Firstly, the geochronological study allows to determine the age of the geodic fluorite stage at Pierre-Perthuis at 130 ± 15 Ma. The detailed paragenetic sequence displays two major mineral successions of “fluorite-barite-quartz”, occurring after two dissolution or karstification events that affect the carbonate phases in host-rocks. During the dissolution event, the fluid is enriched in calcium and plays a key role for the fluorite mineralization. The microthermometric study of fluid inclusions in geodic fluorite crystals shows CaCl₂-rich fluids with temperature around 80-100°C, with sporadic higher temperatures. All these data has been confronted to the thermal history of southeastern part of Paris Basin and allows to evoke deep ascendant hydrothermal brine circulation during the Early Cretaceous at the basement/basin unconformity. The meteoritic origin of fluid is determined by the oxygen isotopic compositions in the quartz stages. The implication of basement source has been demonstrated by the radiogenic lead isotopic compositions added to the study of major minerals in basement with the involvement of biotite as a potential source of fluor. During the Early Cretaceous, it is proposed that flows of meteoric waters percolated downwards to depths of 2-5 km, driven by a hydraulic gradient due to the flexural deformation of the Paris Basin. The carbonate dissolution by the fluor-bearing ascendant hydrothermal fluids will allows the deposition of fluorite mineralization during the Ca enrichment of fluids in the basin at the basement/cover unconformity.

Review and perspective on ferroelectric HfO₂-based thin films for memory applications

Park, Min Hyuk, Lee, Young Hwan, Mikolajick, Thomas, Schroeder, Uwe, Hwang, Cheol Seong 17 October 2022 (has links)
The ferroelectricity in fluorite-structure oxides such as hafnia and zirconia has attracted increasing interest since 2011. They have various advantages such as Si-based complementary metal oxide semiconductor-compatibility, matured deposition techniques, a low dielectric constant and the resulting decreased depolarization field, and stronger resistance to hydrogen annealing. However, the wake-up effect, imprint, and insufficient endurance are remaining reliability issues. Therefore, this paper reviews two major aspects: the advantages of fluorite-structure ferroelectrics for memory applications are reviewed from a material’s point of view, and the critical issues of wake-up effect and insufficient endurance are examined, and potential solutions are subsequently discussed.

Effect of Annealing Ferroelectric HfO₂ Thin Films: In Situ, High Temperature X-Ray Diffraction

Park, Min Hyuk, Chung, Ching-Chang, Schenk, Tony, Richter, Claudia, Opsomer, Karl, Detavernier, Christophe, Adelmann, Christoph, Jones, Jacob L., Mikolajick, Thomas, Schroeder, Uwe 24 August 2022 (has links)
The ferroelectricity in fluorite oxides has gained increasing interest due to its promising properties for multiple applications in semiconductor as well as energy devices. The structural origin of the unexpected ferroelectricity is now believed to be the formation of a non-centrosymmetric orthorhombic phase with the space group of Pca2₁. However, the factors driving the formation of the ferroelectric phase are still under debate. In this study, to understand the effect of annealing temperature, the crystallization process of doped HfO₂ thin films is analyzed using in situ, high-temperature X-ray diffraction. The change in phase fractions in a multiphase system accompanied with the unit cell volume increase during annealing could be directly observed from X-ray diffraction analyses, and the observations give an information toward understanding the effect of annealing temperature on the structure and electrical properties. A strong coupling between the structure and the electrical properties is reconfirmed from this result.

Understanding the formation of the metastable ferroelectric phase in hafnia–zirconia solid solution thin films

Park, Min Hyuk, Lee, Young Hwan, Kim, Han Joon, Kim, Yu Jin, Moon, Taehwan, Kim, Keum Do, Hyun, Seung Dam, Mikolajick, Thomas, Schroeder, Uwe, Hwang, Cheol Seong 11 October 2022 (has links)
Hf₁₋ₓZrₓO₂ (x ∼ 0.5–0.7) has been the leading candidate of ferroelectric materials with a fluorite crystal structure showing highly promising compatibility with complementary metal oxide semiconductor devices. Despite the notable improvement in device performance and processing techniques, the origin of its ferroelectric crystalline phase (space group: Pca2₁) formation has not been clearly elucidated. Several recent experimental and theoretical studies evidently showed that the interface and grain boundary energies of the higher symmetry phases (orthorhombic and tetragonal) contribute to the stabilization of the metastable non-centrosymmetric orthorhombic phase or tetragonal phase. However, there was a clear quantitative discrepancy between the theoretical expectation and experiment results, suggesting that the thermodynamic model may not provide the full explanation. This work, therefore, focuses on the phase transition kinetics during the cooling step after the crystallization annealing. It was found that the large activation barrier for the transition from the tetragonal/orthorhombic to the monoclinic phase, which is the stable phase at room temperature, suppresses the phase transition, and thus, plays a critical role in the emergence of ferroelectricity.

NÃvel de conhecimento do cirurgiÃo-dentista no diagnÃstico diferencial da fluorose dentÃria / Level of knowledge of dental surgeons about dental fluorosis

Maria de FÃtima Azevedo Souza 24 August 2007 (has links)
The ability to discriminate fluorosis from other enamel modifications is an important factor to support decision makers in epidemiology and oral health. The main objective of this research is to investigate the ability of the odontologists working for the public health services in Fortaleza, to discriminate fluorosis from other enamel alterations, the severity of the disease and the correct clinical approach. Two hundred dentists out of 527 professionals of the public health services answered a semi-structured survey, based on the evaluation of 20 digitalized pictures showing enamel modifications. The presence or absence of fluorosis, as well as the severity of the disease were determined according to the Deanâs index. We were unable to detect an effect of the school of graduation (p>0.05) on the ability to diagnose fluorosis. However, the youngest, less experienced dentists performed better (p<0.05) for both fluorosis diagnosis and to determine to adequate clinical approach for each case. Also, odontologists working in the city health services were more likely to get higher scores compared to the ones working for the state services, with an average of correct answers for differential diagnosis of 7.70  0.15. Although a few subjects achieved less than 30% of correct answers, pictures displaying more severe cases of fluorosis were more likely to result in correctly answered questions. The vast majority (90%) of the subjects reported to have a poor ability do diagnose fluorosis, although 75% had received information about that disease during undergraduation. The odontologists also displayed a very poor performance (2,71  0,76) in defining the best clinical approach, and about 70% of them asked for specific training for correctly diagnose dental fluorosis. Based on the above results, we conclude that most dental surgeons working for the public health services in Fortaleza displayed a poor knowledge about dental fluorosis and lack an adequate training to diagnose and treat that disease. Similar researchs in other regions of Ceara should be performed in order to better identify the deficiencies of the public health services, at different levels

Characterisation of inorganic materials using solid-state NMR spectroscopy

Sneddon, Scott January 2016 (has links)
This thesis uses solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations to study local structure and disorder in inorganic materials. Initial work concerns microporous aluminophosphate frameworks, where the importance of semi-empirical dispersion correction (SEDC) schemes in structural optimisation using DFT is evaluated. These schemes provide structures in better agreement with experimental diffraction measurements, but very similar NMR parameters are obtained for any structures where the atomic coordinates are optimised, owing to the similarity of the local geometry. The ³¹P anisotropic shielding parameters (Ω and κ) are then measured using amplified PASS experiments, but there appears to be no strong correlation of these with any single geometrical parameter. In subsequent work, a range of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are investigated. Assignment of ¹³C and ¹⁵N NMR spectra, and measurement of the anisotropic NMR parameters, enabled the number and type of linkers present to be determined. For ¹⁵N, differences in Ω may provide information on the framework topology. While ⁶⁷Zn measurements are experimentally challenging and periodic DFT calculations are currently unreliable, calculations on small model clusters provide good agreement with experiment and indicate that ⁶⁷Zn NMR spectra are sensitive to the local structure. Finally, a series of pyrochlore-based ceramics (Y₂Hf₂₋ₓSnₓO₇) is investigated. A phase transformation from pyrochlore to a disordered defect fluorite phase is predicted, but ⁸⁹Y and ¹¹⁹Sn NMR reveal that rather than a solid solution, a significant two-phase region is present, with a maximum of ~12% Hf incorporated into the pyrochlore phase. The use of ¹⁷O NMR to provide insight into the local structure and disorder in these materials is also investigated. Once the different T₁ relaxation and nutation behaviour is considered it is shown that quantitative ¹⁷O enrichment of Y₂Sn₂O₇ is possible, and that ¹⁷O does offer a promising future tool for study.
