Vanzela, Matheus. January 2012 (has links)
The goal is to capture the interdep endence b etween these decisions in order to enable economy of raw materials and reduction of pro duction and inventory costs. In this work the PIDC is treated in the context of a small scale furni-ture plant in which decisions asso ciated with the lot sizing and cutting sto ck are taken by the pro duction manager. A case study was conducted in a plant that pro duces furniture of various kinds (in general wardrob es, dressing tables and b eds) from rectangular wo o d plates of different thicknesses. Three mo dels are formulated: one for the PDL, one for the PCE and a mixed integer mo del that integrates the PDL and the PCE.The column generation technique is used to solve the linear relaxation of two mo dels. We compare the mo dels results with the practice and analyze the computational study in different ways. It was p ossible to obtain a solution capable of implementing b oth the strategy... Implementing automated decision systems to optomise customer life cycle management in the retail furniture industry in South Africa.

January 2003 (has links)
The origins of the retail furniture industry commenced with family run stores, traditionally known as "momma and poppa" stores as they were entrenched in certain families. A feature of these stores was that they traded with people that they knew and enjoyed a great deal of loyalty. As the businesses grew there was a need to supply furniture to their clientele with a facility to repay the full price over a number of months. Such arrangements were typically concluded on trust as the customers were well known by the owners. The industry has evolved from this type of operation to a multi-billion rand industry. In terms of the size of business that is transacted and the size of the major furniture retailing organisations, it is simply not possible to continue doing business in accordance with the same ethos that prevailed during the early days. However, given the decentralised nature of the industry, the philosophy of knowing their customers has prevailed and this notion of wanting to conduct business on this basis has largely been responsible for a many critical functions remaining under the control of the individual stores within the broader network. In terms of the high volume of transactions that are currently concluded, it is extremely difficult to ensure that the application of policy and risk-based decisions are made on a consistent basis. From a cost effectiveness and productivity point of view, it is not possible to realise efficiencies and economies of scale that could be enjoyed if certain business processes were centralised. The intention of this research is to evaluate how the introduction of automated decision making business processes can contribute towards managing the organisation's exposure to risk with the view to achieving required levels of organizational performance and also sustainable value creation through a customer-centric philosophy. / Thesis (MBA)-University of Natal, Durban, 2003.

In this work we study the two-dimensional cutting stock problem originated from a furniture industry. We describe the production system of a characteristic furniture plant situated at Votuporanga Regional Center and we propose an algorithm to solve the cutting stock problem taking into account the minimization of the number of objects and the number of saw cycles. The main idea of the algorithm (AFM-P) is adding to the problem, in a dynamic way, constraints that impose a minimum frequency to the use of a given cutting pattern. At each iteration a solution is generated and at the end there is a set of solutions that are analyzed according to dominance criteria. The AFM-P algorithm is tested using data from the furniture plant visited. The computational study shows that using the proposed algorithm it is possible to find solutions that are close the ones used in the industry practice and, in most cases, better than theirs

Indicador de solvência para a indústria moveleira

Gehlen, Enio January 2003 (has links)
This thesis emphasis is based on the used principles to establish grades of Solvency at the Companies. The established relationship is in focus of furniture Companies located at Bento Gonçalves - RS. Based on preexisting researches, this thesis is founded on empirical evidences in how these furniture companies had collected indicators that can be used to prove its Insolvency. Such evidences are quality and quantity measured and were collected from several sources at the analyzed Companies. The examination over the Solvency signs is developed based on an existing analytical structure literature, which have been adapted to the furniture Companies analysis. The Solvency exam is based on Indicators used at the furniture Companies. Researches of such nature are found in the literature. However, the application of these Indicators at the furniture Companies are rare, especially at the Brazilian Companies.
