Tlumočnice emocí: Mezigenerační genderové strategie matek a dcer v prostředí vietnamských rodin v České republice / The Interpreters of Emotions: Transgenerational Gender Strategies of Mothers and Daughters in the Setting of Vietnamese Families in the Czech Republic

Vrbková, Tereza January 2017 (has links)
Contemporary anthropological research looks at the heterogeneous composition of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic and observes different ways of integration of the various generations of Vietnamese migrants (Martínková, 2008). Contrary to the 1st generation, the children are intensely confronted by Czech culture and society, which leads to different negotiating strategies. This contributes to cultural dualism, especially in the case of children forming identities which differentiate them from their parents (Kušniráková Tran Vu, Plačková, 2013; Vasiljev, 1999). The acculturation gap between children and parents can lead to a transgenerational conflict (Janská, Průšvicová, Čermák, 2011). Gender relationships and roles within the family are the key aspect of contemporary changes (George, 2005, Erel, 2009). Through the perspective and analytical category of gender this ethnographic research studies how Vietnamese mothers and their daughters negotiate mutual transgenerational relationships. The research focuses on the narrative understanding of maternal practices of bringing up children that are used by Vietnamese mothers to control the agency of their daughters, their gender roles, sexuality and morality, while also looking at how they attempt to build a sense of belonging. It turns out...

Komparace zkušeností aktérů a aktérek české komunální politiky z genderové perspektivy / Comparison of experience of men and women participants of the Czech local politics from the gender perspective

Šmejkalová, Jana January 2020 (has links)
Although the representation of women in terms of the Czech local politics is higher than on regional and state level, still their total number does not reach the participation of men by far. In addition, women are more present on lower decision-making positions of local politics. It is possible to say that women are disadvantaged by the current political and social environment. The qualitative research used in the present paper focuses itself on the reflections of male and female politicians regarding their participation in local politics, whereas their consensus and differences in opinions are monitored especially in regards to such topics as mandatory gender quotas, position of men and women in the local politics, discrimination, and distribution of political agenda as per gender. It has been demonstrated that "the second shift" is the most important factor in the eyes of both male and female politicians, making the involvement of women in the local politics much more difficult. Stereotyped statements of politicians of both genders illustrate the image of the local politics as a significantly male dominated enviroment, where a woman can prove herself only after winning the imaginary battle with the whole system (and after overcoming the intra-party barriers) and for the price of a demanding...

Gender a sociální poznávání / Gender and social cognition

Schneiderová, Magdalena January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this thesis was to present a comprehensive overview of current knowledge in the field of gender research and social cognition as well as to contribute with results of my own research. The biggest emphasis of the theoretical part lies on stereotypes and gender differences in personality characteristics, topics that are closely related to the research part of this paper. The empirical part answers the question whether information about the sex of a person has impact on how we assess this person's personality. After reading a short biography of a fictitious person, respondents described this person on 30 items of the Bem Sex Role Inventory (Bem, 1974). Results showed that respondents rated some characteristics differently for the male figure than the woman figure. Respondents of both sexes perceived the described man as significantly less Forceful and less Defending his own believes than the described woman. Although not always significantly, all 10 items satiating the BSRI masculinity score showed the same tendency to evaluate the figure of the man as less masculine than the figure of the woman. Part of the Discussion is dedicated to possible interpretations of these results. To obtain a deeper understanding, further research is required.

Obraz ženy v reklamě / The portrayal of women in Slovak print media advertising 1992 - 2012.

Gašparová, Dominika January 2013 (has links)
This thesis The Portrayal of women in Slovak print media advertising 1992-2012 addresses the way women are depicted in advertising in three selected Slovak magazines, at three points in time; 1992, 2002 and 2012. The work aims to discover in what direction the portrayal of women in magazine advertisements has evolved during this period when advertising occupies more and more space in the media. This work deals with gender issues and focuses mainly on the roles in which women are represented in advertising. Their passivity or activity and sexual objectification are examined through content and semiotic analysis. The dual mode of analysis will allow us to better understand the mechanisms of the depiction of women in advertising and compare the different ways women are portrayed in the media depending on the target audience.

Sociální práce z pohledu mužů a žen / Social work from the perspective of men and women

KOLÍNOVÁ, Denisa January 2017 (has links)
The thesis analyzes differences in perception of social work between men and women. It does so on the basis of Encyclopedia of Social Work. The individual chapters of the book are explored within the framework of several current definitions of social work, and two separate conclusions are made for each of them. The first always sums up the way the Encyclopedia treats the subject in and of itself. The second adds a gender perspective and addresses the discrepancies between male and female understanding of the problem. The meaning of contrasts between the individual results is then interpreted in the context of gender and social work as a whole.

Genderové aspekty v sociální práci s Romkami / Gender aspects in social work with the Romany womens

RŮŽIČKOVÁ, Jana January 2013 (has links)
In the case of Gypsy women is necessary to realize that they are actually discriminated twice. The first discrimination is in term of members of the Gypsy minority, the other in term of gender. The gender is not reflected in social work. Therefore, I consider this topic being current. What is discussed a lot this is an inclusion of the Gypsy minority and the gender equality. The theoretical part deals with general gender and gender in social work with the Gypsy community. Furthermore, it defines the position of Gypsy women in the family and in the society. For qualitative research, I chose a narrative interview technique, which is used to obtain information about collective biographical and historical context of the investigated event, through spontaneous narrative of informant, which is only cautiously led by researcher. Quality data collected interview were elaborated by using coding. There were two Gypsy women with different socio-economic status as a basic research group. Additional file was formed by a social worker and a social worker working with the Gypsy minority. The aim of this thesis was to analyze the gender dimension in social work with Roma woman. The research showed that the situation of Gypsy women in the family positively changes. It starts becoming a creature that is not as inferior and secondarily as a Gypsy man. Strict rules for life in the Roma family ease gradually. Women are more involved in decision-making within the family and they can decide about their rights. However, one aspect of gender remains largely the fact that Gypsy women still struggle with low levels of education and skills. This is especially reflected when these women ask for a job. Frequent failures are primarily caused by the refusal by employers because of prejudice and long-term unemployment which cause loss of motivation or work habits. Gypsy women feel negative and contemptuous behavior towards their ethnicity, whether in a job search or by state institutions, such as when they apply for social benefits. Social work approaches to Gypsy clients only in terms of ethnic minorities. However, the approach in terms of gender is neglected. The contribution of this work is to contribute to the understanding of the overall situation of Gypsy women and to the obstacles which avoid their emancipation. Results could contribute to the understanding of social work with Gypsy women and Gypsy minority in general. It can be additionally used for the evaluation of an approach of social work with Gypsy women.

Zobrazení genderové nerovnosti v lifestylových časopisech pro muže / Representation of Gender Inequality in Czech Lifestyle Magazines for Men

Jacobs, Diana January 2018 (has links)
The thesis focuses on representation of gender inequality in Czech lifestyle magazines for men. The main research question explores the ways in which men's magazines represent the issues of gender inequality. The research method used in this thesis is qualitative content analysis by Anselm Strauss and Juliet Corbin. The sample contains selected articles from Czech versions of the men's magazines Maxim and Esquire, covering all of 2016. The open coding process enabled labeling of the analyzed phenomena, discovering the prominent categories and their dimensions. Axial coding resulted in the reorganization of the categories, which emerged during open coding, by exploring the relationships between the categories and making connections between them. Selective coding identified the central phenomenon of the research. Male Dominance emerged as the core category, integrating the other categories - Manifestations of Gender Inequality, Men's Fear of Gender Equality and Partial Refutation of the Masculine Perspective - around the central phenomenon. The theories used as the sources of the enhancement of theoretical sensitivity are explored and presented in the theoretical part of this thesis. The research concludes that the analyzed lifestyle magazines for men spread negative gender stereotypes and...
