Freight on Transit Delphi Study

Cochrane, Keith 21 November 2012 (has links)
The Freight on Transit Delphi Study was conducted to explore the concept of freight on transit – using public transit vehicles and infrastructure for transporting things other than people. Three rounds of web based surveys were conducted with a panel of 34 transportation experts to explore the main issues related to freight and transit integration and to build and evaluate potential freight on transit operations. Survey results were consistent with previous investigations and suggest that organizational disputes are a larger barrier to implementation than technical challenges. Traditional Delphi questions were used to determine the most important positive impacts, negative impacts, and challenges of moving freight on transit networks while survey responses combined with scenario building techniques were used to build and evaluate five potential freight on transit operating strategies using public transit networks in the GTHA.

Vartotojų teisių gynimo problemos nekokybiško daikto (paslaugų) atveju (teismų praktikos analizė) / The problems of consumers‘ rights protection in case of defective goods (services) (the analysis of courts practise)

Jablonskytė, Judita 09 July 2011 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The object of the academic master work is to analyze the problems faced by the consumers in case of defective goods (services) and the court’s practice on this matter. The academic master work begins with the examination of the legislation and of the special quality criteria that are laid down for determining whether a particular consumer good (service) meets the quality requirements or vice versa, they do not. The conception of defectiveness is revealed in the two levels: Lithuanian and European Union; the problems associated with the transposition of the principle of conformity with the contract to the national law systems are pointed out. In the second part of academic master work the particular problematic issues that arises while consumers prove the defectiveness of goods (services) are examined, namely: the duty of the consumer to notify the trader of quality deficiencies and it’s impact on consumer rights; the legal and commercial guarantees, six-month presumption’s of non-conformity application problems and perspectives. In the third part of work each of the possible remedies in the case of defective goods (services) is separately considered; by the analysis of Lithuanian and EU’s comprehensive regulatory, case law and legal doctrine, the problems associated with each remedy is revealed and the possible solutions are given. The point worth mentioning is that in each part of the academic master work first of all the theoretical provisions are pointed out, after they... [to full text]

Effect of biases on economic decision making : an experimental approach

Buck, Elizabeth L. January 1997 (has links)
Neoclassical economics assumes that consumers have stable, well-defined preferences. However, only 16% of subjects selected a chocolate bar when given a choice between it and a coffee cup, while 43% kept a chocolate bar previously given to them when offered a trade for a coffee cup. Instructional wording had no effect. These results support the hypothesis that people value losses more than gains. / Subjects were asked their willingness-to-pay (WTP) for twelve goods classified as either public or private, or as environmental or nonenvironmental. WTP tended to be lower for public goods when subjects previously ranked the personal importance or benefit they placed on the good. Importance was a weaker bias than benefit. Benefit appeared to induce free rider behaviour for public goods. The only environmental good affected by reading about sustainable development was one specifically mentioned in the article. Biases affecting WTP did not generally affect attributes correlated to WTP.

An analysis of late shipments from South African vendors to EU buyers.

Muller, Craig. January 2006 (has links)
This dissertation set out to ascertain that a South African vendor, on-time delivery to EU buyers, was unreliable. Late deliveries from South African vendors to EU buyers have led to Kingfisher Sourcing Africa (Pty) Ltd being a volatile sourcing office for the Kingfisher Group. Kingfisher Sourcing Africa (Pty) Ltd need to take considerable measures in determining which South African vendors they source products from in order to determine their success or failure. This research has highlighted the following problem: i. South African vendors are unreliable suppliers. Recommendations derived from this research include: ii. The need to clarify terms and conditions of trade, iii. To ensure Kingfisher Sourcing Africa (Pty) Ltd has a contract in place with South African vendors, iv. To periodically and systematically evaluate South African vendor's : Financial capabilities, Supply chain capacity, Management structure, Product offering mix, / Thesis (MBA)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2006.
