Analisamos, em especial, as condições de integrabilidade e sua relação com as condições de consistência no formalismo Hamiltoniano de Dirac. Por fim, estudamos o processo de quantização relacionado a esse formalismo, usualmente interpretado como uma quantificação relacionado a esse formalismo, usualmente interpretado como uma quantificação a gauge livre, e os cuidados que devemos ter com esta interpretação. / In this work we present a detailed study of the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism for singular systems, making its generalization for systems containing dynamical variables which belongs to the Berezin algebra. We analyse, with particular care, the integrability conditions and its relation with consistency conditions in Dirac's Hamiltonian formalism. Finally, we study the quantization process related to this formalism, usually interpreted as a gauge free quantization, and comment the necessity of caution with this interpretation.

This thesis examines the patronage and collecting of Alexander, l0th Duke of Hamilton, premier peer of Scotland, son-in-law of the maniacal collector William Beckford, and arguably the greatest collector in the history of Scotland. Using archival evidence from many sources, it begins with investigations of the Duke's early collecting of Italian Renaissance paintings and manuscripts, acquisitions associated with Russia between 1807 and 1814, involvement with Princess Pauline Borghese and the Bonaparte family, and purchases of porphyry and marble in Rome between 1817 and 1827. Chapters 5 and 6 focus on the extension and refurbishment of Hamilton Palace between 1822 and 1832 and parallel purchases of furniture, furnishings and applied art. Special attention is paid to motivation and the acquisition of items from the Fonthill sale, tapestries made for Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni, furniture owned by Marie-Antoinette, Napoleon's 1810 tea service, bronze statues (wrongly) associated with Francis I of France - which served to underline the Duke's status and "support" his claim to the French dukedom of Chatellerault - and porphyry busts of Roman emperors that were "superior" to the bronze copies in the British royal collection. Chapter 7 reviews the last grand projects: the extremely expensive great black marble staircase, planned equestrian monument of the Duke as Marcus Aurelius, and Hamilton Mausoleum. The final chapter concentrates on the later purchases of Classical items and plaster copies, second marble bust of Princess Pauline, Thorvaldsen 's Napoleon Apotheosized, and Old Master paintings, and discusses how the Duke displayed his collection, in colourways, running sequences, clusters, and "end statements". A ''post mortem " conclusion sketches out the continuity of collecting Napoleonic material, as a consequence of the Duke's son and heir's marriage to the daughter of the adopted daughter of Napoleon and cousin of Napoleon Ill and the dispersal of the collection and demolition of Hamilton Palace between 1880 and 1930.

In the classical calculus of variations, the Hamilton - Jacobi theory leads, under general hypotheses, to sufficient conditions for a local minimum. The optimal control problem as well has its own Hamilton -Jacobi approach to sufficient conditions for optimality. In this thesis we extend this approach to the differential inclusion problem; a general, nonconvex, nondifferentiable control problem. In particular, the familiar Hamilton - Jacobi equation is generalized and a corresponding necessary condition (chapter 2) is obtained. The sufficiency condition (chapter 3) is derived and an example is presented where it is shown how this result may lead to considerable simplification. Finally, we show (chapter 4) how the classical theory of canonical transformations may be brought to bear on certain Hamiltonian inclusions associated with the differential inclusion problem. Our main tool will be the generalized gradient, a set valued derivative for Lipschitz functions which reduces to the subdifferential of convex analysis in the convex case and the familiar derivative in the C¹ case. / Science, Faculty of / Mathematics, Department of / Graduate

<p> The issue of "nursing shortages" is not new, as it is often discussed by both the media and nursing journals. The emphasis of this research paper is to establish the presence or absence of a nursing shortage in Hamilton. The primary concern is to present strategies for recruitment and retention that have been implemented by area nursing employers. This survey's attention was focused on the registered nurse population in hospital and community clinical areas. </p> <p> The majority of those interviewed, with one exception, believed that Hamilton was not experiencing a nursing shortage at this time, especially when statistics are compared with those of Toronto. Many suggestions were put forth regarding recruitment strategies. Among them have been the establishment of the Hamilton Recruitment Group. Co-operative programs for high-school students have been limited to a small number, but this strategy has had some success. Strategies for retention of nursing staff include education opportunities, changes in work schedules and improvements in communication consisting of involvement in policy decisions. </p> / Thesis / Bachelor of Arts (BA)
