Dual head placement machines are commonly used in industry for placing components
on circuit cards with great speed and accuracy. This thesis evaluates a novel approach
for prescribing process plans for circuit card assembly on dual head placement machines.
Process planning involves assigning component types to heads and to feeder slots
associated with each head and prescribing appropriate sequences of picking, placing and
nozzle-changing steps. The approach decomposes these decisions into four inter-related
problems: P1, P2, P3 and P4. This thesis reviews this approach; presents a new heuristic
to address P1; a method to facilitate P2 and P3 solutions; a method to control nozzle
changes in P4; tests approaches to P1, P2, P3 and P4; and presents a thorough analysis of
computational results to evaluate the efficacy of the approach which aims to balance
workloads on machine heads to maximize assembly line throughput.

Executive search recruiting by head hunters have been the main and important human resources strategy. In the past, there are a few thesis topics on executive search recruiter (head hunter), and all of these studies focus on either executive search industry or the competency of executive search recruiter.
This study surveyed a sample of executive search recruiters island wide, and learn the effects of hunter hunter¡¦s personality trait, human capital and social network on job performance. A brief version of Goldberg¡¦s Unipolar Big-Five Markers was used to evaluate head hunters; as for social networks we focus on four properties of the social network that have been identified as important in the study of executives' networks: the propensity to network, the scope of the network, the strength of ties with network members, and the prestige of network members. The effective sample is 65 after deleting two ineffective questionnaires. The result after regression analysis is as follows:
1. Head hunter¡¦s current job seniority and the seniority of their past original professional field before being a head hunter have a positive impact on their job performance.
2. Having master degree or not and the total seniority of being a head hunter have no obvious impact on job performance.
3. The personality trait of head hunter has impact on their subjective job performance but has no impact on their objective job performance.
4. Head hunter¡¦s social network has no impact on their job performance.

Over the last few years, there have been striking developments in wearable computing. Among all the different forms of wearable devices, Head Mounted Displays (HMDs) are deemed the first seamless solution to enabling workers with real time contextual information and allowing companies to integrate with existing back-end systems. The hands-free feature that come along with the HMDs is also believed a great advantage over many traditional technologies.
However, few studies had discussed the impact of different design characteristics of head mounted displays on task performance. This study aimed to find out how different display positions of Head Mounted Displays may affect the performance of workers performing guided repair and maintenance tasks. A set of car maintenance tasks were performed by 20 participants with task guidance presented at four Display Conditions: above-eye HMD, eye-centered HMD, below-eye HMD and the traditional paper manual. Time and errors were measured and discussed, as well as other user experience related measurements.

During the flight tests, the images displayed on the Head-Up Display (HUD) could be stored for later analysis. HUD images presents aircraft data provided by its avionics system. For a simplified Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI), where data accuracy is not a big issue, HUD images could become the primary information source. However in this case data analysis is executed manually, frame by frame for information extraction (e.g. Aircraft position parameters: Latitude; Longitude and Altitude). In approximately one hour of flight test about 36,000 frames are generated using standard-definition television format, therefore data extraction becomes complex, time consuming and prone to failures. To improve efficiency and effectiveness for this FTC, the Instituto de Pesquisas e Ensaios em Voo (IPEV - Flight Test and Research Institute) with Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA - Aeronautical Technology Institute) developed an image processing application with pattern recognition using the correlation process to extract information from different positions on the images of the HUD. Preliminary test and evaluation carried out by 2012 using HUD images of the jet fighter EMBRAER A1. The test results demonstrate satisfactory performance for this tool.

Prosodic Noun Incorporation and Verb-Initial SyntaxClemens, Lauren Eby 21 October 2014 (has links)
To date, no real consensus has emerged among syntacticians about how to derive verb-initial order (V1); but the two main approaches, \(V^0\)-raising and VP-raising, receive particularly widespread support in the literature. The syntax of Niuean pseudo noun incorporation (PNI) has played an important role in the propagation of the VP-raising analysis (Massam 2001), especially for VSO languages and languages with a VSO option.
In this thesis, I present an analysis of the prosody of Niuean PNI and show that the PNI verb and incorporated argument form a prosodic constituent. While this result is consistent with the syntactic analysis of Massam (2001), it is also consistent with a prosodic restructuring analysis that explains the VOS order of PNI by appealing to prosodic well-formedness. I take the second approach. Specifically, the principle behind Selkirk's (1984) Sense Unit Condition requires that the verb and its internal argument(s) form a unique phonological phrase. In order to satisfy this requirement, the incorporated argument moves into a position adjacent to the verb at PF. Positionally motivated categorical feature sharing (Adger and Svenonius 2011; Pesetsky and Torrego 2007) allows PF to reference the head-argument relationship between the verb and its internal argument, even though they are not sent to PF in structurally adjacent positions.
The main result for the syntactic analysis of Niuean is that \(V^0\)-raising replaces VP-raising. The benefits of the \(V^0\)-raising approach include i) less phonologically vacuous structure in places where Niuean has overt morphology, e.g., a perpetually null \(T^0\) in the face of overt tense markers; and ii) observance of the idea that thematic roles are correlated to structural positions. Thus, the prosodic analysis of Niuean PNI has a number of positive outcomes for Niuean syntax, as well as the potential to simplify the derivation of VSO cross-linguistically. / Linguistics
