The heights of meteors were obtained from measurements by SKiYMET meteor radar system at Cachoeira Paulista (22.7 ° S, 45.0 ° W). The data used include measurements taken from March 1999 to July 2006 and from September 2007 to October 2008. The echo of the reach and the zenith angle with respect to each radar echo are used for the heights of occurrence of meteors. The maximum height of daily occurrence was obtained from the Gaussian distribution through vertical adjustment. The series of height data of peak occurrence of meteors was subjected to multiple linear regression analysis to investigate the trend and possible variations induced by solar activity. The results showed a downward trend of approximately 68 m / year at the time of maximum occurrence of meteor and 447 m / 100sfu using monthly data after removal of the solar effect, resulting in a decrease in the peak height of approximately 248 m for all observation period after the time trend removal. Considering only the period of decline of the solar cycle (2002-2008) the decline was approximately 1054 m using monthly data in the analysis. The decrease of the meteors occurrence height can be attributed, in part, the effects of solar activity. Knowing that the atmosphere expands with the growth of solar activity the neutral density shows a downward trend over time.

Utilisation conjointe de données d'altimétrie satellitaire et de modélisation pour le calcul des débits distribués dans le bassin amazonien / Joint use of satellite altimetry and modeled data for estimating distributed discharges in the Amazon basin

Paris, Adrien 25 September 2015 (has links)
This thesis proposes the development of a methodology that aims to obtain distributed discharges in the Amazon basin based on satellite altimetry data and modeled discharges. Given recent works and advances, this work focused particularly on the information that can be inferred from the resulting relationships. We used stage-discharge relationships based on Manning's equation that were optimized through a global optimization algorithm adequately configured. Altimetry data was taken from ENVISAT and Jason-2 missions and discharges were estimated for an overlapping period by the MGB-IPH model. A-priori intervals were defined into the SCEM-UA scheme for each optimization's parameter, and the algorithm allowed us to deal with input errors and output uncertainties. We produced a thousand gross database of rating curves and associated confidence intervals. Hydrological coherence was proved by validation with both modeled and in situ discharges. Successfully using an ENVISAT-based RC with Jason-2 data to estimate discharge at a cross-over, we proved that rating curves are not mission-dependent and can be used with any incoming water height data. Geomorphological characteristics of studied section given by our rating curves were validated through comparison with in situ data, inverse modeling of a braided river reach and synthetic rivers test cases.

Murray Desrosiers, Julie January 2009 (has links) (PDF)

Resor och möten i Wuthering Heights : immram, echtrae & Leabhar Gabhála Éireann

Faste, Ingrid January 2006 (has links)

From atomic energy to nuclear science: a history of the Australian Atomic Energy Commission / History of the Australian Atomic Energy Commission

Binnie, Anna-Eugenia January 2003 (has links)
Thesis (PhD)--Macquarie University, Division of Information & Communication Sciences, Department of Physics, 2003. / Bibliography: p. 269-277. / Introduction -- Oliphant: a finger in many pies -- Men of vision and a world power in embryo -- The birth of the Commission -- We need secrets to trade: the Beryllia Project -- The Commission: a hive of activity -- The reactor that never was: the Jervis Bay Project -- The reinvention of the Commission -- The Commission is dead, long live ANSTO -- Conclusion. / Nuclear energy was once seen as a possible answer to man's energy needs, but it could also be used to produce the most destructive weapons known. The initial research into the phenomenon of nuclear fission was done at university laboratories in Europe on the eve of the Second World War. This war led to the development of the first nuclear weapons. After the war, many nations wanted access to both the weapons and the source of cheap power that the process of nuclear fission provided. Australia was one such nation. -- The Australian Government wanted nuclear energy to help develop the dry interior of the continent. There were many in Government who also wanted nuclear weapons. This work focuses on the Australian pursuit of nuclear energy for peaceful uses. The achieve this aim an organisation was established which would train scientists and engineers in nuclear science and technology. This organisation, the Australian Atomic Energy Commission, is the subject of this thesis. -- This work will examine the political influences that governed the Commission in its function and scientific research paths. Specifically, it will examine how successive governments caused the Commission to cancel projects, change the direction of its research, attempted (on several occasions) to amalgamate the Commission with the CSIRO, forcing the organisation into uranium mining and finally abolishing it and replacing it with a new organisation, the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation. Government interference would continue with this new organisation which had its entire board dismissed in 1993. -- The Commission was essentially a scientific and engineering organisation and hence this thesis will also consider a number of projects with which the Commission was involved such as the Beryllium Project, uranium exploration and mining, the uranium enrichment programs, the purchase of two nuclear reactors, the Synroc project, and the ill-fated Jervis Bay power reactor project. Other projects which were started in the early days of the Commission, the neutron diffraction work and the isotope production projects, will be mentioned in passing. Both these projects require a more detailed appraisal than is possible in this thesis. / Mode of access: World Wide Web. / viii, 278 p. ill
