Remembering the Ladies of the Lakes: Michigan History through Story.

Bolley, Jean Stow 14 December 2002 (has links) (PDF)
Predating both written language and print, oral storytelling is an effective way to both inform and entertain. Focusing on the genre of the history tale, this project is a collection of 10 original stories based on Michigan history. By crafting stories based on people and events from the past, history becomes more interesting and memorable. These stories deal with women as they are affected by and involved in events from 1701-1945. Topics include the founding of Detroit, the Civil War at home and on the battlelines, a missionary, the University of Michigan, settlers, fires, a copper mine strike, a school tragedy, and the World War II homefront. The selections are intended to be told, not as a whole, but combined to make programs individualized for each presentation.
