Personers upplevelser av att leva med hypertoni : En beskrivande litteraturstudie

Abstract Background: Hypertension is considered a common disease and can be a contributing cause of cardiovascular diseases such as heart failure, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease and stroke. With the help of a nurse, people can strengthen their knowledge of health and ill health to manage their self-care, such as diet, exercise and in some cases medication. It is also important for people living with hypertension to get thorough information about the disease. Therefore, it is relevant to gain a deeper knowledge of people's experiences of living with hypertension and what it is like to change their lifestyle. Aim: The aim of this literature study was to describe people's experience of living with hypertension. Method: A descriptive literature study based on 13 scientific articles. The literature searches were performed on the PubMed and Cinahl databases. The articles have been reviewed and compiled in tables and all articles had a qualitative approach. Main results: The results showed that the people experienced a lack of information about their illness. The people were aware of the sequelae, however most people have the attitude that it will not happen to me, a denial. The people were in need of a lifestyle change and to get information about their illness. Everyday exercise was an important part of people's lifestyle changes. It was stressful for the people to change their lifestyle, but also personal finances, cultural background and the high pace in society could be described as other stressors. Conclusion: Support and information from the caregiver is important for the people to get the optimal understanding as possible about their illness and to reduce stress and anxiety about their situation.
