Is there an economic value for elite sports? : The case of Swedish Hockey League

Åström, Erik January 2017 (has links)
The economic value of sport has long been an interesting subject to study. Proponents arguing there is big monetary return for a region hosting a professional sports team. However, majority of studies done on the subject point in the same direction where it seems economic return are negligible. Researchers even argue there is rather an alternative cost where money could be better spent on other social structure such as education and health care. The value of sport creates both direct and indirect effect. In this essay I will look at whether there could be any indirect spillover effects from hosting a hockey team in the highest league. Due to its simplicity, a difference-in-difference (DiD) method will be used on municipalities hosting a hockey team. This when looking at Gross Regional Product (GRP), unemployment rate and population growth to municipalities without a hockey team. The results of this study are ambiguous and hard to interpret when sign on coefficient differ between variables and municipalities. However, there seem to be a correlation between lower unemployment rate and population growth and an increase in GRP when a team is qualifying to SHL. It cannot be determined whether this depend on economic growth or success of their professional sports team.

Vliv frekvence bruslení na napětí svalu musculus triceps surae / The influence of skating frequency on muscle tone of musculus triceps surae

Obyt, Daniel January 2016 (has links)
Title: The influence of skating frequency on muscle tone of musculus triceps surae. Objective: The aim of this master degree thesis is to determine whether and how much influence the frequency and intensity of isotonic load the muscle tone of musculus soleus during skating of a professional ice hockey player. The muscle tone of musculus soleus is the most objectively measured part of musculus triceps surae by myotonometer. Methods: The master degree thesis is divided into the theoretical part, the processed form of research that serves as a basis for investigation in the second, empirical part. Change in muscle tone of musculus soleus was investigated by using myotonometer, which followed after a full physiotherapy examination. It is quantitative research using quasi-experimental study. Measurements were performed on 10 subjects - professional ice hockey players who are fully manage the technique of skating on the ice, before load, after low frequency isotonic load and after high frequency isotonic load. Conclusion: The myotonometric measurements revealed that after low and high frequency isotonic load of skating on ice rink, the muscle tone of musculus soleus is the same or slightly lower than before load. Keywords: Muscle tone, myotonometer, musculus soleus, skating, ice hockey

“Technology can always crash; pen and paper will always work.” : The Internet of Things in the Swedish Hockey League

Zachlund, Pontuz, Kallin, Mathias January 2019 (has links)
Background: Internet of Things is one of the most important areas of future technology and countless of industries are directing attention towards it. IoT has now started to appear in the sport industry. One sport that has not been investigated to the same extent within the terms of IoT is ice hockey. Problem Statement: Numerous teams in ice hockey have not yet realized the impact IoT may have on their team performance. With an absence in research on the use of IoT in the Swedish ice hockey industry, there is a knowledge gap on how Swedish ice hockey teams can grasp this opportunity and the main factors that affect their adoption. Research Purpose: IoT creates an opportunity for Swedish ice hockey teams to achieve a competitive advantage and thus a chance to gain new grounds in managing their teams. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate to what extent teams in the Swedish Hockey League are using IoT devices and explore the factors affecting the adoption process. Research Questions: To what extent are IoT devices used by teams in the Swedish Hockey League to increase teams’ performance? What main factors affect the adoption of IoT devices into teams in the Swedish Hockey League? Method: With an inductive approach, this qualitative research explores the IoT phenomenon in the context of ice hockey in SHL. With semi-structured interviews, this research gather data from the perspectives of seven SHL teams on IoT. By using a conventional content analysis, the data collected is categorized and divided into themes. Results: The use of IoT devices in SHL is low. The interest to adopt IoT devices is shared amongst many interview participants. When conducting the conventional content analysis on the data gathered from the interviews, certain themes became evident. The findings could be traced down to either their attitude, their competence within the field or their resources. Conclusion: The Internet of Things is changing the way professional sport teams are managed, coached, and led. The benefits that could be harvested from adopting IoT devices are undeniable, but there are several factors that facilitate a successful adoption. The culture and atmosphere in the organization, the skills and know-how, and the financial situation are all important parts of a successful adoption.

Sportovní sponzoring

Lutovský, Marek January 2006 (has links)
Sponzoring je relativně novým nástrojem komunikačního mixu. Nástrojem, který umí zasáhnout cílovou skupinu, vybudovat tzv. ?goodwill?, zefektivnit reklamní kampaně a dopomoci lepším vztahům s klíčovými partnery.

Markov Decision Processes and ARIMA models to analyze and predict Ice Hockey player’s performance

Sans Fuentes, Carles January 2019 (has links)
In this thesis, player’s performance on ice hockey is modelled to create newmetricsby match and season for players. AD-trees have been used to summarize ice hockey matches using state variables, which combine context and action variables to estimate the impact of each action under that specific state using Markov Decision Processes. With that, an impact measure has been described and four player metrics have been derived by match for regular seasons 2007-2008 and 2008-2009. General analysis has been performed for these metrics and ARIMA models have been used to analyze and predict players performance. The best prediction achieved in the modelling is the mean of the previous matches. The combination of several metrics including the ones created in this thesis could be combined to evaluate player’s performance using salary ranges to indicate whether a player is worth hiring/maintaining/firing
