A presente Dissertação de Mestrado relata uma pesquisa feita com duas professoras e alunos de uma escola pública do Estado do Pará, a partir de uma abordagem diferencial de trabalho, que leva em conta o letramento ideológico, com o objetivo de analisar o comportamento das professoras e dos alunos após a experiência de uso do jornal em sala de aula. A pesquisadora ministrou cinco aulas utilizando as primeiras páginas de três jornais distintos, destacando seus elementos composicionais como fotos, manchetes, linguagem e ideologia. Questionários respondidos pelos sujeitos da pesquisa foram coletados e compõem o corpus da pesquisa, pelo qual a pesquisadora verifica as percepções e as reações dos professores quanto ao uso do jornal, bem como a contribuição do uso da primeira página de jornal para o letramento ideológico dos alunos. Os procedimentos de pesquisa adotados foram a de pesquisa-ação e de intervenção, já que objetivou transformar a realidade e gerar conhecimento a respeito dessa transformação. A análise das respostas dos questionários proferidas pelas professoras constata: mudança de algumas crenças; grande interesse em discutir estratégias de utilização do jornal; parte dos professores não incorpora o jornal ao cotidiano escolar por falta de conhecimento de como utilizá-lo adequadamente. A análise dos questionários dos alunos demonstra: que a leitura de jornal os aproxima da realidade, pois o texto jornalístico traz o imediatismo e a dinâmica da vida social; leitura do jornal parece ajudar a mudar a perspectiva de muitos alunos no que tange à compreensão da linguagem usada e das práticas sociais. Transformar informação em conhecimento é o grande desafio da escola, e o jornal pode ajudar nessa tarefa. Assim, o uso do jornal em sala de aula pode fazer com que a ilha sala de aula se aproxime mais do continente vida social. / The current paper reports a research done with two teachers and students of a public school of Pará State, from a different work approach, that takes into account the ideological literacy, with the objective to analyze the teachers and the students behavior after the experience of using newspaper in classroom. The researcher taught five classes using the first pages of three distinct newspapers, emphasizing its composing elements such as photos, headlines, language and ideology. Questionnaires answered by the citizens of the research had been collected and are part of the research corpus, based on them, the researcher verifies the teachers perceptions and reactions in relation to the newspaper use as well as the contribution of the use of the first page of newspaper for the students ideological literacy. The adopted research procedures had been the one called research-action and intervention, since it aimed to transform the reality and to generate knowledge regarding this transformation. The analysis of the questionnaire answers given by the teachers has the following evidences: change of some beliefs; great interest in discussing strategies on newspaper use; part of the teachers do not incorporate newspaper in their daily school practice due to the lack of knowledge on how to use it appropriately. The analysis of the questionnaires answered by the students has the following demonstration: newspaper reading approaches them to the reality, therefore the journalistic text brings the immediacy and the dynamics of the social life; reading of newspaper seems to help to change the perspective of many students in relation to the understanding of the language used and the social practices. To transform information into knowledge is the great challenge of school, and newspaper can help in this task. Thus, the use of newspaper in classroom can approach the classroom island to the social life continent.
