Constructing a new biblical creationism as solution to the problem of the relationship between religion and science / Myong Soo Jee

Jee, Myong-Soo January 2004 (has links)
This study is an attempt to construct a new biblical creationism as solution to the problem of the relationship between religion and science. It examines the challenge of modern evolutionism and the churches' responses against it. The modern evolutionism as the acting hypothesis of many modern scientific disciplines helps the Church to re-examine its traditional doctrine of creation. There are two Christian responses against the challenge: individually, various positions are active, such as the theistic evolutionism, the recent special creationism, and the old earth creationism; collectively, the Christian churches have not given careful consideration to the challenge. This study examines the creation account in Genesis 1 according to the Kantian epistemology of the writer's Th. M dissertation, an examination of modern eschatology. It proposes a presentist understanding of creation as the tentative alternative to the traditional creationism. It suggests that: 1) In evolution debate both creationists and evolutionists seem to assume there is an examined scientific creationism. 2) Because the traditional divine report model is unverifiable, we need to construct a scientific model. 3) The account seems to follow the ancient clay tablet format. 4) This study proposes a 'new habitat orientation week' model: the assumed observer's report of daily recognition of the wonderful world. 5) It informs us both of the responsibility for the world and of the significance of communal life. 6) It may provide a balanced foundation both for the sound relationship between science and religion and for the positive Christian worldview. / Thesis (Ph.D. (Dogmatics))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2004.

In Search of an Electrophysiological Correlate to Between-Channel Modulation Gap Detection

Mulle, Jennifer 12 March 2012 (has links)
Auditory processing disorder (APD) is characterized by deficits in the auditory modality that are not due to a global processing problem or to deficiencies in the peripheral auditory system. Diagnosis of APD is time-consuming and could benefit from an objective test. Temporal processing ability is often impaired in cases of APD, which includes deficits on gap detection tasks. Previous attempts to correlate gap detection thresholds to electrophysiological responses have used the P1-N1-P2 response, mismatch negativity (MMN), and 40 Hz auditory steady-state response (ASSR), but these attempts have not been successful, especially using between-channel gap detection tasks. The current study used a modulation gap detection task and recorded the above responses to supra- and subthreshold gaps and stimuli with no gap. A significant P2 response and a later positive peak distinguished perception of a suprathreshold gap. Improvements over previous studies, the relation to auditory training, and limitations and directions for future research are discussed.

Oro srauto parametrų kombaino kūlimo aparate nustatymas / Evaluation of air flow parameters within the threshing apparatus

Karitonas, Tautvydas 21 June 2013 (has links)
Tolimesniais eksperimentiniais tyrimais... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The rotation of combine harvester threshing cylinder creates an air flow within threshing crescent, part of which is directed through the openings in the concave. The present work gives the air flow velocity trials within threshing crescent. Experimental studies were carried out with a stationary tangential threshing cylinder stand which consisted of 0.6 m diameter and 1.2 m wide eight rasp bars tangential threshing cylinder which is surrounded by concave with 146º. Air velocity was measured at 56 locations, distributed dependent on construction of concave. The air velocity was measured using a hot wire anemometer unit. The output data was recorded on PC using 10 bit ADC converter. Nine levels of cylinder peripheral speed (from 11.0 ms-1 to 23.6 ms-1) at cylinder-concave clearances of: 36 mm at front, 32 mm in middle, and 20 mm at rear part of concave were used in this experiment. The results of the experiment show that there were significant differences of air velocity among cylinder peripheral speeds and locations. The air velocity increased with increased cylinder peripheral speed and towards the rear of the concave. Air flow velocity within threshing crescent dependence on technological and constructional parameters of the threshing cylinder is presented. Threshing cylinder with mounted 8 ballast and cylinder with covered space between rasp bars creates an air flow, whom velocity was respectively 10% and 37% lower compared with the standard cylinder construction. Exploring the Evolution of Credit Transfer Policy: Implications on the Role and Interplay between Colleges and Universities

Khaja, Aisha 10 July 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines the historical evolution of the credit transfer policy and its implications on the roles and interplay between colleges and universities. This in-depth analysis of credit transfer evaluates the establishment of College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAATs) in the 1960s, to present day initiatives in place to create a system wide credit transfer system between colleges and universities. The theoretical framework is comprised of two major components: firstly, through an examination of policy tools used over the years, this thesis provides a basis to understand measures that have been employed to address the issue of credit transfer. Secondly, through the organization adaptation approach and resource dependency theory, the credit transfer discussion contextualizes the overall impact on the relationship between colleges and universities. The findings conclude that although higher educational institutions are proactively responding to credit transfer demands, the hierarchical structure between universities and colleges is still prevalent.

An investigation into the knowledge and practice of undergraduate nursing students regarding universal precautions and their fear of occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Berg, Lindy Sheryldene. January 2009 (has links)

Background: Health care workers, more specifically, nursing students are at increased risk of occupational injury and exposure to blood borne pathogens. Compliance with universal precautions (UP) will minimise risk or transmission of HIV and HBV (Hepatitis B virus) according to the Department of Health of South Africa. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge and practice of universal precautions amongst nursing students and their fear of occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens. Rationale: The rationale for the study was to investigate what the students&rsquo / knowledge and practice of UP were, to see if this could be a possible contributing factor to occupational exposure. Research design: The study was a quantitative, cross sectional survey using a questionnaire that included one open ended question. Participants: The participants for the study were the undergraduate nursing students in year levels two to four (n = 253) who and were selected by means of stratified random sampling. Procedures: A questionnaire was administered to the participants by the researcher. Analysis of the data collected was done through statistical package for social sciences (SPSS 16.0) and content analysis. Results: The researcher established that there is indeed a lack of knowledge regarding UP and that the students&rsquo / self reported practice of UP is poor. No statistically significant correlation between knowledge and practice of UP were found. There is underreporting of occupational exposures to staff at the School of Nursing. The majority of students reported a moderate to severe fear for occupational exposures and contributing factors raised by them are reality in the clinical facilities.

In between: transition perception connection

Lim, See-Yin 14 September 2009 (has links)
The scope of this study focuses on the concept of In Between with the intention of creating a space of transition and connection between inside and outside, and the simultaneous perception of the two environments. This study will explore the idea of the In Between within the context of a proposed student garden for Edmonton Clinic North, located within the University of Alberta campus in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The intention is to present a design idea that responds to transitioning from one environment to the other as well as exploring opportunities in creating a place that creates the sense of In Between. The concepts of inside | outside, materiality and precedents are researched and analyzed to inform the understanding of the In Between. This research will contribute to the schematic design of the site that exhibits the sense of In Between.
