Kvinnliga chefer i mansdominerade branscher : Ett feministisk perspektiv / Female leaders in male dominated fields : A feminist perspective

Fröström, Johanna, Larsson, Felix January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the obstacles and opportunities that women encounter throughout their professional pursuits in male-dominated fields. To scrutinize the various obstacles and opportunities, we used Kanter’s (1977) minority gender theory and Acker’s (1990) theory about gendered organizations. The data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with nine female managers in different male-dominated industries, chosen based on statistics from the Swedish Statistic Bureau which concluded the most male-dominated fields. To analyze the data we used transcription, coding and thematic analysis. The results show that females making careers primarily encounter informal obstacles although have formal possibilities to become managers. The different types of challenges identified by the interviewed women included adapting to the culture, resistance from male colleagues, and high expectations. The interviews were analyzed using transcription, coding and thematic analysis.
