The Vibrational Spectra of Some Oxalyl HalidesHencher, John Lawrence 10 1900 (has links)
The infrared spectra of gaseous oxalyl fluoride, oxalyl chloride, and oxalyl chloride fluoride, and the Raman spectra of liquid oxalyl fluoride and liquid oxalyl chloride have been measured. A satisfactory analysis of these spectra has been obtained for all three molecules on the basis of the trans isomer. An I.B.M. 7040 digital computer has been programmed to calculate the fundamental frequencies, normal coordinates, Urey-Bradley force constants, and potential energy distributions in Urey-Bradley space. The two electronic band systems of oxalyl fluoride whose origins are located at 3082 Å and 3340 Å have been photographed in absorption under low resolution. These band systems have been assigned ¹Aᵤ←¹A_g and ³Aᵤ←¹A_g transitions respectively, and have been partially analyzed in terms of the vibrational energy levels associated with the combining electronic states. / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The Spectrum of CyclohexanoneGrangé, Danielle 07 1900 (has links)
The near ultraviolet absorption spectra of cyclohexanone, cyclohexanone α, α, α', α'd₄ and cyclohexanone d₁₀ have been recorded and analysed under low and high resolution. The vibrational and rotational structure accompanying the electronic singlet-singlet ṉ→π* transition have been analysed. Some complementary information has been obtained from the infrared vapour spectrum of cyclohexanones. The geometries of the ground and first excited state have been determined. In the excited state configuration, the oxygen atom was bent out of the plane of the three adjacent carbon atoms by about 30º, and the carbon oxygen bond increases by 0.08 Å between the ground state and the excited state. Some ring modes are strongly active in the electronic spectra of the three isomers. This may indicate some coupling between the carbonyl group and the ring. The results obtained by band contour analysis are consistent with those obtained by calculation of a double minimum potential function, as well as those obtained in previous work on related molecules. / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Hydroxycalciomicrolite, Ca1.5Ta2O6(OH), a new member of the microlite group from Volta Grande pegmatite, Nazareno, Minas Gerais, BrazilAndrade, M. B., Yang, H., Atencio, D., Downs, R. T., Chukanov, N. V., Lemée-Cailleau, M. H., Persiano, A. I. C., Goeta, A. E., Ellena, J. 01 May 2017 (has links)
Hydroxycalciomicrolite, Ca1.5Ta2O6(OH) is a new microlite-group mineral found in the Volta Grande pegmatite, Nazareno, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It occurs as isolated octahedral and as a combination of octahedral and rhombic dodecahedral crystals, up to 1.5 mm in size. The crystals are yellow and translucent, with a white streak and vitreous to resinous lustre. The mineral is brittle, with a Mohs hardness of 56. Cleavage is not observed and fracture is conchoidal. The calculated density is 6.176 g cm(3). Hydroxycalciomicrolite is isotropic, n(calc). = 2.010. The infrared and Raman spectra exhibit bands due to OH stretching vibrations. The chemical composition determined from electron microprobe analysis (n = 13) is (wt.%): Na2O 0.36(8), CaO 15.64(13), SnO2 0.26(3), Nb2O5 2.82(30), Ta2O5 78.39(22), MnO 0.12(2), F 0.72(12) and H2O 1.30 (from the crystal structure data), O = F -0.30, total 99.31(32), yielding an empirical formula, (Ca1.48Na0.06Mn0.01)(Sigma 1.55)(Ta1.88Nb0.11Sn0.01)S2.00O6.00[(OH)(0.76)F0.20O0.04]. Hydroxycalciomicrolite is cubic, with unit-cell parameters a = 10.4205(1) angstrom, V = 1131.53(2) angstrom(3) and Z = 8. It represents a pyrochlore supergroup, microlite-group mineral exhibiting P4(3)32 symmetry, instead of Fd (3) over barm. The reduction in symmetry is due to long-range ordering of Ca and vacancies on the A sites. This is the first example of such ordering in a natural pyrochlore, although it is known from synthetic compounds. This result is promising because it suggests that other species with P4(3)32 or lower-symmetry space group can be discovered and characterized.

Some Acetylene Complexes of Nickel, Palladium and PlatinumGreaves, Edward Oliver 10 1900 (has links)
The work describes the preparation of some acetylene complexes of nickel, palladium and platinum. The structure of and the bonding in these complexes is discussed in the light of their infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra. Some reactions of the complexes are described. / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Návrh optické bezkabelové linky malého dosahu / Short path optical wireless link designKovář, Ondřej January 2011 (has links)
This diploma thesis is focused on design and prototyping of wireless optical link for an indoor usage. In the beginning of the thesis frequency spectrums of infrared, visible and ultraviolet light are described by its typical qualities such as values of attenuation or reflection capability. On the basis of this analysis, a proper wavelength has been chosen for usage at the engineered communication system. Next part is devoted to selection of suitable communication components on basis of its declared qualities. In the following chapter this qualities are in carefully measured and after that they are compared with values provided by its manufacturer. The following section is devoted to design schemes of transceiver modules. After completion of the design the manufacturing of PCB, mounting components and the analysis of their distribution was described. The last part of this thesis deals with testing of created prototype in terms of maximum transmission distances and operating frequencies. At the very end of this project, in one small section ways to improve system characteristics was discussed.
