Welcome to KTH: designing a tool for sustainable integration of international students : Case Study

Klobusická, Patricia January 2019 (has links)
This study aims to present a design for a tool for sustainable integration of international students at KTH in Stockholm, Sweden. Integration has 3 main parts, social integration which is interaction with natives, structural which is concerned with a civic number, a job, and last but not least cultural integration which deals with customs, traditions, and religion. The tool has two main features, both of which are aiming to create favourable conditions for all three subsets of integration. The tool was developed by conducting 18 interviews, two rounds of prototyping and two rounds of user testing. It is made out of two main parts, namely informational and social. The information provided is both structural about institutions and getting around, whereas also information about cultural events, attendance at these by international students has the potential to strengthen social integration as well. The social part is designed as a 1-on-1 randomised chat that aims to encourage forming new friendships between international students and natives. This part allows new students to ask questions about anything, the process will get them randomly assigned to any native who shall answer which will create favourable conditions for forming new friendships between newcomers and natives.

Investigating enterprise application integration (EAI) adoption factors in higher education : an empirical study

Aserey, Naseir January 2015 (has links)
The Higher Education (HE) sector of a country is a key area indicating the progress of cultural, political and social growth and development. Public and social demands as well as technological developments add new challenges for this sector. Consequently, higher education institutions have changed and a more flexible IT infrastructure is required to enable them to adapt efficiently to competitive business challenges. Enterprise application integration (EAI) is a technology that effectively integrates intra- and inter-organizational systems. Firstly a systematic review of the EAI literature was conducted. From this review, it was apparent that there are no theoretical models for EAI adoption and evaluation for higher education. Hence, this research contributes a conceptual model that includes influential factors derived from the literature and combines them with the proposed classification of influential factors for HE to produce an EAI conceptual model for the HE domain. To validate this proposed model empirical research was conducted. Then, the model was tested using a qualitative case study approach by means of three case studies that were conducted at different universities. Exploratory, explanatory and interpretive data analysis phases were implemented to find what is the current EAI process of HE and how these institutions currently work. In addition, these phases were employed to identify the EAI adoption factors in HE. As a result of this analysis the conceptual model was modified because of complementary factors that emerged. Therefore, the main contribution of this research is a comprehensive and novel model for EAI adoption in higher education area. The adoption EAI factors were identified by extracting a number of parameters from the empirical data. Several important factors that influence and assist the adoption of EAI in HE were identified. Hence, an additional contribution is the classification of factors in EAI adoption into technical and social factors which provides a better understanding of these factors. A further contribution is the derivation of a new classification of the EAI external and internal pressure factors. The development of a consistent model for the adoption and evaluation of EAI in HE is based on these factors.

Bedarf, Voraussetzungen und Umsetzungsmöglichkeiten eines sächsischen Integrationsgesetzes: Gutachten im Auftrag des Sächsischen Staatsministeriums für Soziales und Verbraucherschutz, Geschäftsbereich Gleichstellung und Integration

Langner, Anke, Eckardt, Carolin, Vorländer, Hans, Angeli, Oliviero, Enders, Christoph, Mrozek, Anna, Püschmann, Jonas 14 February 2018 (has links)
Integrated Simulation and Reduced-Order Modeling of Controlled Flexible Multibody Systems

Bruls, Olivier 08 April 2005 (has links)
A mechatronic system is an assembly of technological components, such as a mechanism, sensors, actuators, and a control unit. Recently, a number of researchers and industrial manufacturers have highlighted the potential advantages of lightweight parallel mechanisms with respect to the accuracy, dynamic performances, construction cost, and transportability issues. The design of a mechatronic system with such a mechanism requires a multidisciplinary approach, where the mechanical deformations have to be considered. This thesis proposes two original contributions in this framework. (i) First, a modular and systematic method is developed for the integrated simulation of mechatronic systems, which accounts for the strongly coupled dynamics of the mechanical and non-mechanical components. The equations of motion are formulated using the nonlinear Finite Element approach for the mechanism, and the block diagram language for the control system. The time integration algorithm relies on the generalized-alpha method, known in structural dynamics. Hence, well-defined concepts from mechanics and from system dynamics are combined in a unified formulation, with guaranteed convergence and stability properties. Several applications are treated in the fields of robotics and vehicle dynamics. (ii) Usual methods in flexible multibody dynamics lead to complex nonlinear models, not really suitable for control design. Therefore, a systematic nonlinear model reduction technique is presented, which transforms an initial high-order Finite Element model into a low-order and explicit model. The order reduction is obtained using the original concept of Global Modal Parameterization: the motion of the assembled mechanism is described in terms of rigid and flexible modes, which have a global physical interpretation in the configuration space. The reduction procedure involves the component-mode technique and an approximation strategy in the configuration space. Two examples are presented: a four-bar mechanism, and a parallel kinematic machine-tool. Finally, both simulation and modeling tools are exploited for the dynamic analysis and the control design of an experimental lightweight manipulator with hydraulic actuators. A Finite Element model is first constructed and validated with experimental data. A reduced model is derived, and an active vibration controller is designed on this basis. The simulation of the closed-loop mechatronic system predicts remarkable performances. The model-based controller is also implemented on the test-bed, and the experimental results agree with the simulation results. The performances and the other advantages of the control strategy demonstrate the relevance of our developments in mechatronics.

Integrace ukrajinských migrantů v ČR / Integration of Ukrainian migrants in the Czech Republic

Burdukovskii, Nikita January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on the integration of Ukrainian migrants in the Czech Republic. In connection with the increasing emigration potential of the Republic of Ukraine due to the ongoing civil war, the thesis will be an analysis of the Czech Republic's current integration policy towards foreigners from third countries with an emphasis on migrants from Ukraine. Significant changes in integration policies started after the accession of the Czech Republic to the EU, contextual documents and other public policy measures aimed at systematizing the integration of migrants from third countries. Thus, the aim will be to analyze publicly-relevant documents, which outline the essence and determinants of the Czech Republic's integration policy towards migrants from third countries. The Czech Republic responds sensitively to migratory trends, but more emphasis put on current immigration from Ukraine. Therefore, another goal will be to unveil the integration policy exclusively towards the Ukrainians in the Czech Republic. Finally, the ultimate goal is to understand on the basis of the interviews, what barriers the Ukrainians have in the Czech Republic for integrating into the host society. The life course theory helps to identify what trajectories they choose to integrate in their individual dimensions.
