Supply Chain Integration in the Swedish Wooden House industryOdehammar, Max, Bui, Ahn Thai January 2018 (has links)
Supply Chain Integration (SCI) has been found by previous research to be correlated withincreased business performance. However, the rate of implementation of the concept isdependent on the industry, implying that this is determined by industry-specific factors. Thepurpose of this study was therefore to investigate how the Swedish wooden house industryapproaches SCI, and thereby identify industry-specific factors that influence integration. Toaccomplish this, an exploratory multiple case study was conducted, in which Swedish woodenhouse manufacturers and associated actors were interviewed. The study confirmed that thewooden house industry is affected by factors limiting SCI implementation, and that companiesin the industry are not integrated to any significant degree. Further, two industry-specificfactors were discovered to be inhibiting integration. First, the degree of product customizationgranted to customers by house manufacturers determines how much control over procurementdecisions is retained, and thereby potential for integration with suppliers. Customer orientationwas found to inhibit SCI in the wooden house industry due to its effect on productcustomization, in spite of previous literature classifying it as a driver. Secondly, thefragmentation of the contractor market was found to force house manufacturers to deal with amultitude of small actors to perform the on-site construction function, limiting investments inrelationships for any one given actor. The study also found that levels of internal integrationwas generally not at a level at which the benefits of SCI can be fully realized.

L’intégration professionnelle : perception des médecins immigrantsBardai, Anas 08 1900 (has links)
Conclusion :
Problem:
In spite of the increasing number of immigrant physicians who choose to live
in Quebec, and of the shortage of physicians, many will not succeed in
establishing themselves as physicians in Quebec. Previous studies were
often not specific to the professional integration of immigrant physicians in
Quebec. And new barriers emerged in each study, justifying the need for an
exploratory approach to better understand the subject.
Objectives:
The objective of this study is to identify and analyze barriers to professional
integration and facilitating factors perceived by immigrant international
medical graduates who choose to install themselves as physicians in
Quebec.
Method:
The strategy adopted is a case study. It is a qualitative research based
primarily on analysis of 22 semi-structured interviews, realized with immigrant
international medical graduates, native of 15 different countries. The sample
retained is of maximum variation type, according to the country of origin, initial
training, professional experience and according to the professional stage of
integration in Quebec. Recruitment was conducted primarily with the
collaboration of the Centre for Evaluation of Health Sciences at Laval
University, the organization "l’Hirondelle" and the Department of Health
Administration of the University of Montreal. The various themes that were
addressed in the interview were derived from the perceived barriers cited in
literature, most of which are not specific to immigrant physicians. These
general themes are represented by linguistic constraints, socio-cultural,
informational, financial, procedural and discriminatory barriers. Facilitating
factors that were examined are: financial factors, informational factors,
assistance and support to professional integration.
Results:
The 22 participants consisted of 13 men and 9 women, aged 29-53 years
from 15 different countries and with a length of stay in Quebec from 2-15
years. The professional integration barriers perceived by immigrant
physicians are primarily procedural, but also institutional, and to a lesser
extent, sociocultural. The principal procedural barriers relate to the
informational factors, to the assessment of medical knowledge and skills, but
especially to the absence of guarantee of residency matching, even after
having succeeded in all the required exams. The most important facilitating
iv
factors are the harmonization of provincial and federal procedures, the
relative improvement of information, language support for non-French
speakers and the shortage of physicians.
Conclusions:
The reduction of the many barriers identified in this research, will not only
allow to facilitate the professional integration of the immigrant physicians, but
also to contribute to reduce the shortage of these healthcare professionals in
Quebec.

Educator's Technology Integration Barriers and Student Technology Preparedness as 21st Century ProfessionalsPine-Thomas, Joy Anne 01 January 2017 (has links)
Millions of dollars have been spent to acquire educational computing tools, and many education, government, and business leaders believe that investing in these computing tools will improve teaching and learning. The purpose of this quantitative study was to determine whether charter school educators face technological barriers hindering them from incorporating technology into their classrooms. If they experienced self-efficacy issues integrating technology in their classrooms and if they believed their students were technologically prepared as 21st century professionals. A 5-point Likert scale survey, validated by a pilot study, was completed by 61 charter high school teachers. Their responses were analyzed, scores from the individual mean responses were used to calculate the total mean; and a parametric t test used to determine if the null or alternative hypothesis could be rejected. The theoretical foundation for this study was Cubans' and Brickners' first- and second-order barriers to change. In one charter school stratum, teachers experienced barriers integrating technology into their classes, while teachers in the other charter school strata did not. There was statistical significance in teachers' beliefs about their skills integrating technology into their classes and their students being technologically prepared as 21st century professionals. The results of this research could lead to positive social change by providing valuable information to help charter school administrators identify teachers who are experiencing barriers and how they can improve teacher's professional development integrating technology into their classrooms.

Improving Educational Technology Integration in the ClassroomYemothy, Nicole Elizabeth 01 January 2015 (has links)
Teachers' ability to integrate technology is a topic of growing concern given the importance of technology and 21st century skills readiness in both academics and the global society of 2014. This study investigated the technology integration barriers that educators faced, the training the educators received, and support needs of educators at a large, prominent, 30-year old international school located in Central America offering grades Pre-K 3 to 12. The social learning theory of Bandura, the constructivist theories of Piaget and Dewey, and the technology constructionism of Papert provided the theoretical framework. The research questions focused on understanding technology integration by assessing key aspects of the teachers' technology proficiency and needs. A nonexperimental quantitative cross-sectional study design was used to examine the educational technology integration practices and deficiencies at the focus school. A Likert-style instrument, comprised of parts from 3 existing instruments, was completed electronically by 62 purposefully sampled certified teachers at the focus school. Descriptive statistics identified technology integration levels, training factors, and support needs of focus school educators. Correlational analyses failed to reveal any significant relationships between technology integration levels of the focus school teachers and the variables of interest: self-perceived barriers to technology integration, self-perceived confidence using technology, and participation in onsite professional development. In light of the survey findings, a 3-phase technology integration improvement plan was designed. The study yields social change for the focus school by improving their technology integration practices based on empirical evidence.
