This work uses Mikhail Bakhtin s studies on dialogue as a theoretical reference, especially his discourse on the notion of I and how it is constructed through the discourse of others- in this case the interior voices of the characters and how they are conditioned by the way they live. This paper also attempts to situate Bakhtin s theories within the work of other theorists in such a way as to support the arguments presented here. In this study I have looked at the historical, social, political and religious context in which the novel was written, moving through a broader view of nineteenth-century Europe, then Portugal and finally to the town of Leiria, where the novel is set. Following this, the dialogues of the characters are used to draw a picture of the society and way of life at that time and are compared to the internal voices of the protagonists, showing how the characters and their values are products of this society. Finally it is shown that the interior voices of these characters reproduce the discourse of the other. Their voices are never solitary voices, but carry in them what Bakhtin calls dialogism / O presente trabalho tem como proposta uma análise do mundo interior através das vozes das personagens protagonistas Amaro e Amélia da obra O Crime do Padre Amaro de Eça de Queiroz. Para tanto, usou-se, como referencial teórico para esta análise, os estudos sobre dialogismo de Mikhail Bakhtin, pois, segundo o dialogismo bakhtiniano, o discurso do eu é constituído pelo discurso do outro e, neste caso, as vozes interiores das personagens são condicionadas pelo meio em que elas vivem. Procurou-se assim articular a teoria de Bakhtin aos estudos de outros teóricos que, de algum modo apresentam pontos de vistas convergentes às suas idéias, dando assim maior sustentação à fundamentação e a análise da pesquisa. Procedeu-se então, ao estudo de fatos históricos, sociais, políticos e religiosos, partindo do geral para o particular, ocorridos no século XIX, na Europa em Portugal e na cidade de Leiria, espaço em que se passa a trama. Apresenta-se, em seguida, o discurso das personagens que compõem o meio em que as protagonistas vivem, como forma de observar dialogismo em suas vozes internas e a conseqüente formação de seu caráter. Considerou-se, finalmente, que o discurso interior dessas personagens são condicionados pelo meio e reproduzem o discurso do outro. Suas vozes nunca vêm sozinhas, vêm carregadas de dialogismo, conforme afirma Bakhtin
