The Diploma Thesis is divided into three sections. The first section describes the activities of the ILPS and characterizes closely the Study Centre in Prague -- Albertov and its courses. The second section deals with differences among cultures, according to Fons Trompenaars and Charles Hampden-Turner, and characterizes Czech culture and the cultures of participants of courses at Albertov. This section also includes a research study on the perception of Czech culture by foreign students and in-depth interviews with two representatives. The last section discusses the promotion of the Study Centre Albertov and proposes concrete ways on how to promote the 6-Week Intensive Czech Language Course and the summer course Czech Language and Culture.

Jazykový management na památkových objektech s organizovanými prohlídkami / Language management in historic buildings with guided tours

The presented thesis studies the language management of six historical objects currently maintained by the National Heritage Institute (NHI). With each, several different aspects were studied. Firstly, the aspect of organized language management, particularly the use of language when communicating with visitors, presenting the object publicly and organizing tours. The linguistic landscape analysis focused primarily on the visitor information system of each of the heritage objects. This provided crucial data for the study of the spatial use and distribution of languages. Furthermore, the matter of language ideologies and their influence on the language hierarchies was addressed. The last, aspect to be scrutinized, was the organizational structure of the NHI, particularly the levels responsible for language-related decisions. The thesis aims to describe the workings of such heritage sites from the aforementioned viewpoints, thus illustrating the language management process in the tourist industry.

Internationalisation is one of the important dynamic tendencies which influences the functioning and course of development of contemporary languages. It is the result of increase and intensification of language contacts on a global scale. Internationalisation influences language on all language levels. Substantial is manifest of borrowing lexical elements, their integration, adaptation and function in communication. Furthermore, activation of the use of international word forming morphemes and word forming processes belong among manifestation of internationalisation. The thesis presents manifestations of internationalisation in the lexis of Western Slavic languages in contrastive perspective. The introductory part outlines the current research status of presented phenomenon and defines fundamental terms. Third and fourth chapters, the central part of the thesis, deal with comparison of international lexis on individual language level. Besides the description of the orthographical and orthoepical, grammatical, lexical-semantic correspondences and differences, attention is also focused on positon and function of internationalisms in lexicon of Western Slavic languages and their relations to the other units of lexicon. The diploma thesis is focused on the topic of development of communication skills in education of foreign languages. The aim is to find out about ways how teachers develop communication skills and their feedback on pupils. The theoretical part concentrates on individual communicaton skills from the point of their content, process, development and assessment. It also deals with the language subskills which are inseparable from the language skills. The theoretical part further contains the question of categorization of a foreign language in the Framework Education Programme for Basic Education. In the practical part the author focuses on the results of the research which finds out the teachers´ and pupils´opinions of using communication skills in foreign languages. The research was accomplished by the method of a questionnaire and the results are in charts and graphs.

The theoretical part is focused on describing the interactive whiteboard, development and description of particular language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) and language subskills (grammar, pronunciation). The practical part deals with a preparation of some English classes. From observation of the classes, from the interviews with teachers and the questionnaire among pupils I will make a conclusion for training which language skills and subskills it is good to use the interactive whiteboard.

This thesis is focused mainly on the portrayal of the alternative music in Ukraine, depicting it not only as a fundamental component of the world cultures, just as equal to other influences, as well as identifying its importance as a playing a truly vital part in forming a social conscience of the Ukrainian people. The following set of goal introduces the forecasted solutions of the aforementioned tasks: to introduce general tendencies leading up to the foundation as well as the development of the Ukrainian alternative music as an integral part of the culture of Ukraine; to analyze the lyrics and texts of the rock musicians and their influence on the national language development in Ukraine; to further identify bilingual tendencies, as well as "surzhik" as examples of language developmental movements in the studied texts. The theory section of this thesis aims to describe worldwide cultural tendencies which preceeded the establishment of the Ukrainian alternative music and has shaped its foundations. This thesis deals with the communication between primary school representatives, foreign students and their parents. Our primary focus is the use of professional community interpreting and child language brokering for this purpose. In the theoretical part of our paper we firstly describe migration in the Czech Republic and then introduce the two main points of interest: community interpreting and child language brokering with a focus on the school setting. The empirical part of this study presents the results of our research, that was conveyed as a case study. Our aim was to analyze how certain primary schools in Prague communicate with students and parents who do not speak Czech; to what extent they use community interpreters and what is their opinion on the role of interpreter at school and on this service in general. We also asked the schools whether and how often they request the foreign students to act as interpreters and to what extent they feel this solution is acceptable in various situations. In order to obtain a comprehensive view, we conveyed a similar survey among community interpreters. We discovered that community interpreting is not a common solution in overcoming language barriers in the selected schools. In the theoretical part, the hypothesis about more prevalent occurences in serious and tabloid newspapers will be established. This hypothesis will be validated by research literature. Furthermore, the chosen occurrences will be described in details on the basis of secondary literature. In the practical part, the selected occurrences will be mapped out in chosen serious and tabloid newspapers and the frequency of their appearance will be compared. The aim is to describe the language means that are typical for serious respectively tabloid newspapers. By selected occurrences (for example anglicisms, FVG, phraseologisms etc.) will be monitored not only their frequency, but especially the current trends in the use of these phenomena.
