Mezinárodní pomoc vládních, nevládních a neziskových organizací při přírodních katastrofách s aplikací na Haiti / International assistance of governmental, non-governmental and non-profit organizations in natural disasters wit application on Haiti

Urban, Oto January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this diploma thesis was to analyze an influence of most important humanitarian actors and evaluate their cooperation and efficiency. The task of this thesis was too to show that humanitarian and development aid doesn't have to bring expectable results every time. Low effectiveness of humanitarian activities isn't only the consequence of an insufficient coordination of humanitarian organizations, but it particularly caused by features of a given country, its institutions, its rules and non-existing democracy. On the basis of this knowledge, the analysis of humanitarian aid in Haiti was conducted in this work, which became known to the public all over the world due to a devastating earthquake in January 2010, in spite of the fact that its economic situation has been for very poor for a long time before. The thesis also points on some mistakes of humanitarian organizations in the most important sectors and suggests its solution. I see the solution in a shift from a short-term and passive aid to the long-term and actively-received aid.

Škody katastrofického rozsahu a jejich dopady na pojišťovnictví / Losses of catastrophic scale and the effect to insurance market

Melkusová, Jana January 2008 (has links)
Thesis shows progression of catastrophic events and their influence on insurance market. Insurance and reinsurance are connected to conception of catastrophes and therefore it is necessary that this thesis firstly presents key features and classification of notion catastrophe itself. For understanding of the notion is important to differentiate between nature and manmade disasters. Next part summarizes large-scale events in 2008, significant events in the past and disasters in Czech Republic. Catastrophic events are analyzed from various angles, but the most important one seems to be insured losses volume. The core of the thesis is concerned with explanation of the disaster trend and its consequences. Key problem of disaster insurance is connected to the question, how to cover catastrophic losses for both, individuals and insurance companies.

Sítiny pohrom. Komparace / Rushes of the Disaster. Comparison

Vaněk, Jakub January 2020 (has links)
The thesis presents research on relationships in the context of the unfinalized lyric project Potopa (The Flood) of František Halas. Main points of analysis are questions of fragment, catastrophe and of (lyric) speaker or witness in the sense of specific speech formed by the traumatic event. A reading of the poems belonging to The Flood (as well as the question of the borders of the text and questions of the whole and possible shape of the piece in general) is founded mainly in the context of Christianity, thematic and compositional connections and with regard to the historical event. I'm not so concerned with the national accents of the works of Halas at that time (his engagement in the Czech resistance was interrupted after the arrest of Vladislav Vančura and others by Gestapo - for Halas it's also the time of the most intensive work on Potopa). The aim is rather to see The Flood as a poem witnessing the horror and the catastrophe of the second world war in general. After the opening analysis of characteristic traits of The Flood follows comparisons with selected works of czech literature, primarily with Znamení moci (The Sign of Power) of Jan Zahradníček, Básně z koncentračního tábora (Poems from the concentration camp) of Josef Čapek and Čas (Apokalypsa mixte) (Time) of Jiří Kolář. In concrete...

BOŽOVSKÁ, Vladimíra January 2011 (has links)
This diploma thesis on social impacts of disasters and their solutions deals with disasters that have accompanied the mankind from the very beginning, their impacts and the effective solutions of such impacts. The theoretical section, in the first chapter, introduces the concept of disaster and it describes disasters that struck the Earth in the past and endangered substantially human lives. The second chapter is devoted to disasters of the 21st century and is divided into two parts. The first part of the second chapter deals with disasters of the 21st century in the world, including the current situation in Japan and the other part introduces major disasters of the 21st century in our country. The third chapter of the theoretical section focuses on the characteristics of basic disasters that may occur in the Czech Republic. The fourth chapter informs us about the impact and consequences of extraordinary events and crisis situations in the Czech Republic and about their solutions. This chapter introduces us to the way the Czech Republic addresses social impacts of disasters, which are an important factor in determining the seriousness of disasters. The concept of social impacts of disasters includes not only the loss of life or property, but also reduced ability of self-support of people affected by disasters caused by closing down businesses and their decreased work ability. The last chapter of the theoretical section, chapter five, deals with the role and responsibilities of state authorities and local governments during extraordinary events and crisis situations. This thesis aims at specifying social impacts of disasters and to propose some solutions. The results of quantitative research using questionnaire survey showed that we can confirm working hypothesis no. one, i.e. that one of the major impacts of disasters are social impacts. The thesis also includes research conducted using the method of guided interviews thanks to which we can confirm the second working hypothesis, i.e. that dealing with the impact takes place mostly in the reconstruction period after the crisis situation. Knowledge obtained while working on this thesis may serve as a comprehensive analysis of the current state of the Czech Republic in terms of dealing with social impacts of disasters.
