The focus of this thesis is to closely explore the personalities of the protagonists of two of Patrick McCabe's novels, namely The Butcher Boy and Breakfast on Pluto to determine the source of their individual personal traits. The second part of this thesis is focused on analyzing the film adaptations of the aforementioned novels and the way the films depict the personalities of Francie Brady and Patrick Branden.

Theology of the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Časopis pro katolické duvhovenstvo/Časopis katolického duchovenstva The theme of this thesis is a theological reflection of the sacrament of reconciliation, as it recorded in Časopis katolického duchovenstva [Journal of the Catholic Clergy] throughout the whole period of its publication in the years 1828-1949. In the first part a short history of the journal is presented. The second part examines, in the chronological order, individual articles and shows how selected authors deal with the studied issue, which aspects they stress and on what conception of the sacrament of reconciliation they build their argument. In the exposition of these articles their authors are also briefly introduced. Author of this thesis has chosen several fundamental perspectives for his analysis and for his structuring of his treatment of individual articles. These approaches to texts were: author's own basic stance, the establishment of the sacrament, its historical development, parts assigned to the penitent and to the priest, the effects of the sacrament of reconciliation and author's conception of this sacrament. This dissertation deals with the American Catholic theologian and social thinker Michael Novak, as well as his work, which is a principal and influential contribution to Catholic social teaching. Novak is the main representative of American Catholic Neoconservatism, a stream in Catholic thought, which springs from the specific context of the experience of the American political, economical and cultural arrangement and which started to develop in the USA in connection with the American conservative revolution. Catholic Neoconservatism aims to connect Christian and liberal traditions, and it also tries to rehabilitate the system of Democratic Capitalism newly based on Christian values. Its goal is to influence all areas of Catholic social thought, which, according to Novak, needs to be developed and enriched by non-Europeans, especially from the American experience. He claims that Catholic social thought is inspired too much by Socialism and the one-hundredyear-old tradition of Papal Encyclicas has been significantly marked by a limited Eurocontinental horizon. This dissertation aims to contribute, at least partly, to the Catholic historical revision of values of classical liberalism in light of this American experience. Also Novak´s usage of theological doctrines on behalf of the democratic capitalism is interesting and not forgetable experiment in the area of the theology of terrestrial realities, despite some of its exceptions. Novak is not a great theologian, but he is especially a political scientist and economist. Therefore his theology of Democratic Capitalism should be further developed and enriched by other theologians.

The work examines formation of the Catholic Church's social teaching from the end of the nineteenth century until the end of the World War II. It pays attention to official documents denoting its realm as well as to the response to the programme within the Belgian milieu. On the example of La jeunesse ouvrière chrétienne the work tries to indentify foundations of the Church's social teaching along with changes, shifts and adaptations that appeared in their unique form in the JOC movement. The work also notices origins, formation and development of JOC itself. This historic and religious topic is set in wider social and cultural context. Latter part of the work is devoted to particularities in the acceptance of Church's social teaching in Czechoslovakia in between the world wars.

This thesis describes, on selected themes in Katolické noviny Journal, how communistic behavior in Czech republic tried to controll public oppinion by abusing its contents. In investigated time period between 1968-1989 is shown, how government policies versus church were changing, as well as Czech state versus Vatican. Separate chapter displaying Biscups life, and how this life was reflected in Katolické noviny. Thesis also describes conteporary government founded and well supported {\clq}qstate church institutions`` operated in Czech Republic and their influence on journal content. This thesis tries to sketch out dilema of state between church relations.

This thesis focuses on the religious monuments of Bohemia and their implementation in the tourist package for the clienst from Portugal and Brazil. All theoretical and practical dates are implemented in the creation of three versions of the itinerary of the Religious Package.

The aim of the thesis is to present the portait of forming, development and forms of the Czech catholic liturgics from the standpoint of original works written in the Czech language by Czech authors in the territory of the Czech lands prior to the Second Vatican Council. On the basis of the bibliography of Czech liturgics (licentiate thesis), the project of the developmental tendency of this theological discipline is demonstrated, specifically in two independent courses - clerical liturgics and lay liturgics. The thesis further focuses on educational institutions and the position of liturgics within the study curriculum. It presents the history of the Czech catholic liturgics as a component of the history of the Czech catholic theology and in the context of general and Czech ecclesiastical history. This dissertation Michael Novak and Patrick Buchanan as Major Representatives of Contemporary American Political Catholicism compares the political thought of two faces of contemporary American political Catholicism represented by the neoconservative Michael Novak and the paleoconservative Patrick J. Buchanan. The first part deals with the context of contemporary political Catholicism and its historical background. The comparison thematizes five problem fields: the issue of democracy and American political system, economic problems, question of foreign policy, the issue of religion and Catholicism and, finally, the conflict over the basis of conservatism. To accomplish the given objective, I analyse the work of both authors, compare their respective ideological positions and set them in the context of other major authors in the given areas and in the context of established political theories. The comparison shows that they both emphasize the significance of the religious and moral aspect of democracy, especially in the American context, however, they do not agree on the universal reach of democratic ideals. This work deals with analysis and comparation of three baroque hymn-books by authors Jan Amos Komenský, Jiří Třanovský and J. J. Božan. Hymn-book by JAK, Tranoscia Citharu sanctorum and Slavíček rájský are analysed according to their authors? creed and period context and they are compared according to their content and arrangement of their songs.
