In this dissertation, Stefanie Gerke investigates the question of how artists deal with decaying architecture of the 1960s and 1970s. She analyzes photographic, film, and video works since 1990 that specifically expand the iconographic tradition of the ruin, update it, and rearticulate it within the specific conditions of new media. While the iconography of ruins was previously influenced by the aesthetics of Romanticism as well as Georg Simmel, who saw the appeal of decaying buildings in their reconquest by nature, modern ruins are made of industrial building materials that are difficult to decompose and are often the result of human rather than natural destruction. In the dissertation, the analysis of the works of contemporary artists who are dealing with the decay of post-war buildings therefore leads to an update of two aesthetic categories that characterize the concept of ruins, for the 21st century: the picturesque and the sublime. Some of the works analyzed use postwar architecture as a contemporary symbol of transience and, in the picturesque tradition, devote themselves primarily to questions of perception in order to reflect on the construction mechanisms of their own media, such as Tacita Dean's (*1965) 16mm films, Cyprien Gaillard's (*1980) Polaroid series, and Beate Gütschow's (*1970) photomontages. Other artists extract an aesthetic component from the radical images of demolished or condemned, failed postwar architecture and the accompanying social consequences, which combines pleasure and horror in the tradition of the sublime, such as Julian Rosefeldt and Piero Steinle (*1965/1959), Clemens von Wedemeyer (*1974), and Tobias Zielony (*1973).
The dissertation not only locates itself within the discussion about the legacy of postwar architecture, but also systematically delineates a field in which contemporary art is currently active.

Specifically in the 60's a lot of quality films with detective plots were made and they are appreciated among the audience until today. They are also repeated in television frequently. These films demonstrate both crime and further investigation, focused on the police activity. This representation is frequently portrayed as a reality and the audience tend to view it as such. Therefore, it is interesting to observe if this representation corresponds to real forensic practice. This diploma thesis deals with the given matter. Sovětská filmová komedie konce 60. a 70. let / Soviet Film Comedy of the Late 60's and the 70'sNěudačina, Natalija January 2019 (has links)
The subject of this thesis is a genre analysis of Soviet film comedies of the late 60s and the 70s that is based on the reception and production history data. The aim of this research is to grasp this type of comedy as a specific political and socially-cultural phenomenon of the Eastern bloc and its relation to Soviet popular culture. A methodology of the genre analysis will derive from Rick Altman's semantic-syntactic approach, which will allow us to describe the chosen genre group as a complex genre trend set in the unique social, cultural, economic and in this particular case also ideological context, to follow the development and fluidity of the genre trend, as well as to find and to compare mutual attributes of the chosen films. The analysis will not be based solely on the group of the most watched films, but also on the production data focusing mostly on the films' budget, as well as dramaturgic supervision and censorship. Another part of the diploma thesis will be based on the gathered reception data such as contemporary media response and viewer ratings, focusing on the important role that Soviet film comedies played in the period and partially continue to play in the present-day Russian popular culture. Fusion of all analytic parts shall bring us to the basic definition of the Soviet film...

Autorská realizace filmového dialogu / Auteur Execution of Film DialogueKocábek, Daniel January 2016 (has links)
This thesis is about auteur execution of film dialogue in screenplays and also in film. By analysing four different feature films, Reservoir Dogs, Chasing Amy, Before Sunset, and Rushmore this work shows how their authors shoot conversational scenes in an innovative manner. The American Independent cinema is briefly introduced as well as the auteur theory. The choice of filmmakers and specific films is explained. The thesis subsequently demonstrates how film dialogue is being viewed by film handbooks and how a conventional dialogue scene looks like. The four analyses are based on all of this information.
