In this work we investigate multi-variable Toeplitz operators and their relationship with KK-theory in order to apply this relationship to define and analyze embedded Toeplitz problems. In particular, we study the embedded Toeplitz problem of the unit disk into the unit ball in C^2. The embedding of Toeplitz problems suggests a way to define Toeplitz operators over singular spaces. / Ph. D.

This thesis describes the design of a low-cost Accommodation for Young people. It is an apartment building on 5 floors above ground, designed primarily as a starter housing for young people. The first floor is completely wheelchair friendly and there are 3 apartments for for wheelchair users (1x2+KK, 2x1+ KK) . In the second and third floors is a total of 20 flats (1 bedroom apartment). The fourth and fifth floor consists of 5 maisonette flats (2+KK) with access to the terrace. The house is based on the foundation walls and footings. The structural system consists of load-bearing walls POROTHERM and internal reinforced concrete columns and beams. Ceiling construction consists of of panels SPIROLL and a reinforced concrete slab. The house has two roof construction, flat monotube roof (terrace) and a sloped gable roof formed by wooden rafters. The house is situated on a large grassy area, which forms the park for rest and relaxation. On the property is a parking lot along access roads with a total of 32 parking spaces.

En liberalisering har skett gradvis sedan 1970-talet bland ungdomar i synen på sexuella relationer. Sex behöver inte längre ske inom fasta förhållanden, utan i större omfattning inom lösare relationer, exempelvis i så kallade KK-förhållanden. Vidare har Sverige högst antal tonårsaborter bland de skandinaviska länderna och en pågående klamydiaepidemi. Denna forskningsstudie ämnar undersöka huruvida sannolikheten att utsättas för negativa sexuella konsekvenser ökar bland de individer som har haft ett KK- förhållande/regelbundet fast partner, jämfört med de som inte har haft samma typ av relation. Studien baseras på sekundärdata (insamlat mellan 2010-2011) och består av 670 deltagare i åldern 15-26, 36,1 % män och 63,9 % kvinnor. Som analysmetod av datamaterialet har en logistisk regressionsanalys använts. De främsta riskmåttsvariabler som använts som beroende variabler är: klamydia, kondomanvändning, antal sexpartners, egen riskbedömning tillfälligt okänd partner, tillfälligt känd partner. Den oberoende variabeln som använts var KK/regelbundet känd partner under det senaste året. Resultatet visade att sannolikheten ökar att utsättas för sexuella risker för individer som haft minst ett KK-förhållande/regelbundet känd partner under de senaste 12 månaderna på grund av att de mer sannolikt hade fler än en sexpartners, flera olika tillfälliga sexuella relationer samtidigt, samt vanligen redan smittats av klamydia. Inget samband hittades vad gällande egen kondomanvändning eller riskbedömning.

The goal of this thesis is to give an introduction to the geometric picture of bivariant K-theory developed by Emerson and Meyer building on the ideas Connes and Skandalis, and then to apply this machinery to give a geometric proof of a result of Emerson. We begin by giving an overview of topological K-theory, necessary for developing bivariant K-theory. Then we discuss Kasparov's analytic bivariant K-theory, and from there develop topological bivariant K-theory. In the final chapter we state and prove the result of Emerson. / Graduate

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Type-2-diabetes (T2D) is a progressive metabolic disease characterized by insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction leading to persistent hyperglycemia. It is a multisystem disease that causes deterioration of multiple organ systems and obesity. Of interest, T2D affects the urinary system and is the leading cause of kidney disease. Both T2D and chronic kidney negatively impacts the skeletal system and increases fracture incidence in patients. Therefore, it is important to establish an animal model that captures the complex multiorgan effects that is common in T2D. In this study, we characterized the metabolic phenotype of the KK/Ay mouse model, a polygenic mutation model of T2D. We concluded that KK/Ay mice closely mimic T2D and are hyperglycemic, hyperinsulinemic and insulin resistant. KK/Ay mice have also had worsened kidney function as supported by elevated levels of blood urea nitrogen, phosphorous, creatinine, and calcium in plasma exhibiting the kidney’s inefficiency in clearing waste from the body. Even though we were able to confirm a metabolic phenotype for T2D and diabetic nephropathy, the skeletal effects of the disease were minimal and major differences in bone physiology were driven by sex differences. This study offered valuable insight into preliminary endpoints for the KK/Ay mouse mode that will decide the direction for future use of this model. We plan to use older mice in future studies to allow a longer time for skeletal effects to more prominently manifest.
